I have been a member of Free Republic for some time and this is my first time ever posting a thread. We here in lincoln need your help! The 19 "potentially violent Misdemeanors" are: 1.Unlawful discharge of Firearms 2.Carrying a concealed weapon 3.Second-degree false imprisonment 4.unlawful posession of explosives 5.use of explosives without a permit 6.obstructing a Police Officer 7.Introducing Contraband or escape Implements 8. Furnishing Firearms, ammunition, or weapons to minors 9.Resisting Arrest 10.Debauching a minor 11. First-degree criminal trespass 12.Third-degree sexual assault 13. Second degree false imprisonment 14.concealing death of a another person 15.Salking 16. Violation of a protection order 17. Criminal Child Enticement 18. Impersonating a Police Officer 19. Attempting any felony OR any of the above misdemeanors

I got that list right out of todays paper(although the list is not mentiond on the internet story).

What can I do to fight this!?!? Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated

Dear Editor,

Mayor Wesely and Chief Casady cast their net way too wide with their planned restrictions on gun ownership (Mayor, Chief Seek Gun Restrictions, January 31.)

Making life difficult for gunowners won't reduce crime, gentlemen. We tried the whole antigun shebang, here in Australia- banning semi-autos, gun registration, buybacks, the lot. And we have seen subsequent increases in violent crime, in certain states, of up to 40%.

Don't make the same mistake we did, Downunder. Target criminals, not responsible gunowners, if you really want to reduce crime.

Yours faithfully

Sorry that the post was not profesionally put up. But the major point of this story is that the fine Citizens of Lincoln Nebraska that have ever been convicted of any of the 19 Misdemeanors can never possess guns again! Police Cheif Tom Casady is largely responsible for this proposed legislation. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful.

The only part that makes any sense is not leaving a handgun in a car for 24 hours, only a fool leaves his pistol in the car.

I always thought the people in Nebraska had their heads on striaght, My brother tells me, you have to get a permit to buy a pistol in the City of Lincoln. Things have really changed since I left 15 years ago.

That is a tough one, sounds like the city council is front loaded with gun grabbers. The only thing I can think of is fill the council chamber with folks that object, every time they meet, and every one there fill out a request to speak. Filibuster them until they change their minds.

Those fools need to look around them a little, if they want to reduce crime on the streets, arm the citizenery. Pass a shall issue concealed carry law.

They tell me Ernie won't let that happen.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, Lincoln is really changing and it's all for the worst. Our Police Cheif hates the Constitution, so that doesn't help matters any. I plan to show up at the meeting to discuss this issue with the City Councel. Thanks for the advice.

We have changed the city council's mind on a couple of their "big spender" ideas when enough people spoke out against what they wanted to do.

We haven't had a problem with the city passing any laws restricting gun rights here, state law prevents it. Two years ago the county passed an ordnance banning guns in county buildings, it is vague, and poorly written, there is some wording about people with CCW permits, which indicates that we are exempt, so we ignore it.

Byron, that's surely a good letter!

Super, first off, I see Lincoln's got about 250,000 people, so it is by my reckoning a fairly big town-- how is your local talk radio? Pretty active? That's a good place to start a grassroots campaign. Gather your friends, get some talking points together ( but try to keep it simple, and diverse- Byron's letter is a good springboard.) Attack it from every angle everyone can think up. It doesn't matter how off-the-wall it sounds- the idea is to make people start thinking and question "this new, wonderful cure for all our problems..."

Don't overlook letters to editors- not just the local papers- anything in print. Magazines, tourist guides, University publications- anything that lies around waiting to be read is fair game.

Try to get outside organizations interested in your cause- just off the top of my head:

http://www.saf.org/

http://www.jpfo.org/

Run a web search for local/regional groups interested in the 2nd Amendment, too... hunters groups, trapshooters, target shooters-- dare I suggest gay groups, like the Pink Pistols? You take whatever allies you can find in a fight like this, sort 'em out later!

I hope it does pass. You need to get this lady to testify before the Senate, her parents were killed in the Lubys Restaurant massacre in Texas, it was illegal to carry concealed then, she left her gun in the car. She got herself elected to the Texas House of Representatives, and got a concealed law passed. I have heard her speak, there isn't a dry eye in the house when she is finished.

Thank you so much for your inspiring post! I plan to start rallying the troops starting this morning(I have a weekend class that starts in about 5 and a half hours). I'm so upset by this matter it's hard to sleep. I feel like once this issue is resolved, my next task is to oust Police Cheif Casaday from his job. It's not easy loving freedom. Thanks again:)

Sorry, very tired here. There are two spelling errors in my title alone. I'll do better next time.
