USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ New Canteen Mission Statement ~ January 21 2003

Posted on 01/21/2003 5:47:49 AM PST by 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub
Due to an ever changing world it is time to clarify and re-define the Canteen Mission Statement.
When the Canteen first opened on Oct 7 2001 it was in response to the tragic events of 9/11.
It also opened the first day of the war on terror.
At that time there was overwhelming support for the war effort and the military.
Now that we are on the verge of a new phase of the war on terror
there exists an enemy within that has surfaced again.
All one has to do is read or watch the news to see
the anti-American protests start again, just like in the 60's.
It is up to each one of us to counter this movement.
There are many FReepers who can and do attend the counter FReeps.
Join Operation Infinite FReep!

For those who cannot attend these FReeps there are many things we can do to support our military.
Henceforth the Canteen Mission Statement is:
Showing support AND boosting the morale
of our military and our allies military
AND the family members of the above.
AND Honoring those who have served before.
So if you see a thread, a post, have an idea etc
that aligns with the Canteen Mission please link it or post it on the daily thread.
If you are a participant in an Operation Infinite FReep please post your notices or reports here.
Know that daily active duty military and their family members come here.
Show them that WE do care and DO stand behind them and their efforts to protect our Freedom.

Of course you may have dessert first. Anyone who volunteers for clean up duty deserves to eat their dinner in any order they choose!
Caution - the cobbler is still hot - let the ice cream melt a little...

THAT's not my kitchen sink!! A man must have cooked that meal - Women know to wash up as they go. I've already cleaned the cooking utensils - all you have to concern yourself with will be the silverware, plates, cups, saucers, glasses, etc.
I've got a load running in the dishwasher now. By the time everyone finishes up, we'll be ready for the dinnerware.
Any volunteers for clearing the table?????
How about taking out the trash?
Anyone good with a mop?
Active duty military lurkers need not apply!!
Put your feet up, loosen your waistband, and enjoy!

Welcome home from work, snippy. Hope you had a good day.
"Don't set those fire hoses off up North or else..."
LOL! Been there, done that. Gotta keep the nozzle cracked so the hose won't freeze solid, but you create a puddle at your feet that tries to freeze your boots to the ground.

CREATING OUR OWN LIGHT
Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who encircle yourselves with firebrands, walk in the light of your fire and among the brands you have set ablaze. This you will have from My hand; and you will lie down in torment (Isaiah 50:11).
When your way suddenly gets dark, don't light your own fire. Our natural tendency when we don't see life God's way is to do it our way. Resist the urge to create your own light.
In Isaiah 50:11, God is not talking about the fire of judgment; He's talking about fire that creates light. When we try to find our way out of the darkness by our own devices instead of waiting for God's light, God will allow it, but misery will follow.
Let me illustrate. God called Abraham out of Ur into the Promised Land. In Genesis 12, a covenant was made in which God promised Abraham that his descendants would be more numerous than the sands of the sea or the stars in the sky. Abraham lived his life in the light of that promise, then God turned out the light.
So many years passed that his wife Sarah could no longer bear a child by natural means. God's guidance had been so clear before, but now it looked like Abraham would have to assist God in its fulfillment. Who could blame Abraham for creating his own light? Sarah supplied the match by offering her handmaiden to Abraham. Out of that union came the Arab nation which has been in conflict with the Jewish nation ever since. Abraham created his own light, God allowed it, and misery followed.
We may not have to wait as long as Abraham did, but our darkness may last for weeks, months, and possibly for some exceptional people, even years. But God is in control and He knows exactly how big a knothole He can pull us through. When your faith is stretched to its limit and you are about to break, He will pull you through to the other side and you will never go back to the shape you were in before.
The dark times are difficult, Lord, but I thank You for how I have grown and matured as I have trusted You through them.
