Woman Offered New Plea Bargain
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A woman who admitted dropping her 16-month-old son into a New Jersey river so she could go on a date has been offered a new plea bargain.
Martita Gonzalez is charged with murder, and could face at least 30 years in prison if she's convicted on those charges.
But the plea offer calls for her to plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter. She'd have to spend at least 18 years behind bars.
She was 17 when her son, Anthony Valentin, was killed in June of 2000. Authorities say she couldn't find a sitter to care for the boy, so she dropped him from a footbridge and then went to see her boyfriend.
Prosecutors say Gonzalez went to a hospital the next day and told staffers that she was suicidal before she confessed to the killing. The boy's body was found four days later, about two miles downstream, and an autopsy determined that he had drowned.

Simply disgusting...
Next thing you'll hear in her "defense" is that she was motivated to do this from the Bible story of Moses.

Better boyfriends? This guy must've been great if he's worth dumping a baby in the river.

She shouldn't get 30-years,she should get 30-seconds to ask her CREATOR for forgiveness before she receives a .45ACP in her ear!

" This is why we need publicly funded daycare. Or better boyfriends."
How about manditory sterlization, or retroactive abortion for the mother

Kill the Beeotch!!
Better yet, lock her in a cell for a month with the walls covered with pictures of her smiling 16-month old toddler AND pictures of the bloated, blue/white body after they found him in the river...
...THEN Kill the Beeotch!!
BTW, where's the father?

Just another liberal abortion The little boy was just 16 mos. + 1 hour older than when this would have been perfectly legal.

This is sad beyond words. Yet another example of a lack of respect for human dignity, especially for those least able to defend themselves.

She was 17 when her son, Anthony Valentin, was killed . . . . When her son was allegedly killed.
To: Hugin
Not, "She was 17 when she killed her son", but "when her son was killed" as though she had no role in it. Show some compassion. The poor woman lost her child.

Disgusting. And how is it that Susan Smith got all the press?Doncha know? Why...it became a RACE issue when she accused a black man of hijacking her car with the boys in it. THAT and that alone is why her's became an INTERNATIONAL story.

most horrific story of selfishness imaginable I'm sure you have heard a selfishness story worst than this before. Remember the bent one having his gratification with monica, while hundreds of Israelis, and Palestinians lives were at risks?

Doncha just love this passive style of writing reporters are trained to use nowdays? Not, "She was 17 when she killed her son", but "when her son was killed" as though she had no role in it.At least they didn't say, "when her son was allegedly killed."
I suspect this woman is retarded. But the jounalists never bother to mention such things when it would reduce the juiciness of the story--just as no media account I have ever seen mentioned that Mary Kay LeTourneau has a severe case of bipolar disorder. Makes the whole story so much more titillating if details like that are left out.

The old county orphanage system was a lot better than this at least the kid would have some sort of chance at life and these kind of women had a way to rid themselves of their inconveinant offspring.

"BTW, where's the father?" Father?
He don't have no father!
He don't need no stinkin father!
At the VERY LEAST, this bitch should be sterilized...
We all know that being in prison doesn't end sex life..
Society sure doesn't need any additional samples from this animal's gene pool....
