Woman Offered New Plea Bargain

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A woman who admitted dropping her 16-month-old son into a New Jersey river so she could go on a date has been offered a new plea bargain.

Martita Gonzalez is charged with murder, and could face at least 30 years in prison if she's convicted on those charges.

But the plea offer calls for her to plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter. She'd have to spend at least 18 years behind bars.

She was 17 when her son, Anthony Valentin, was killed in June of 2000. Authorities say she couldn't find a sitter to care for the boy, so she dropped him from a footbridge and then went to see her boyfriend.

Prosecutors say Gonzalez went to a hospital the next day and told staffers that she was suicidal before she confessed to the killing. The boy's body was found four days later, about two miles downstream, and an autopsy determined that he had drowned.

Suicidal, my ass. What's the old catch 22 thing, if you're sane enough to know you are crazy, etc? The only thing this beyotch should face is the river as they wrapped her in chains and pushed her in.

Doncha just love this passive style of writing reporters are trained to use nowdays? Not, "She was 17 when she killed her son", but "when her son was killed" as though she had no role in it.

Be compassionate. Can't you see she's a poor childless woman?

Like the Menendez brothers were orphans.

This is why we need publicly funded daycare. Or better boyfriends.

Yes, this is how Susan Smith got all that press.

Now, how long before "they" blame her boyfriend/society for being driven to such an extreme act?

Recall this is what happend in the Smith case, as the radical professional man-hating feminist howlers blamed men for being less than accepting of women with small children not their own; therefore. . .(you fill in the psycho-babble mitigating not-her-fault, feminist rant).

PPPD. Post-Post-Partum Depression. Doesn't count.

That's it! Free babysitters so single moms can date. This woman is evil, but besides that, would you ever admit that this was your reason?

Maybe once you've killed your kid you don't worry about what people will think of your reason for doing it. But if it were me, I'd have to come up with something which might gain me a little sympathy.

No big deal...she should just plead guilty to practicing medicine without a license and explain it was a post-birth abortion.
