A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Today we shine our Finest
Spotlight on our very own
"Treasure of the Chesapeake"....

FReeper Pippin proudly hails from the eastern seaboard. If you visit her profile page, you are sure to leave with a sense of her great love for God, family, country, and the state she has called home for many years.....

Many who frequent the Finest Thread are well acquainted with our delightful Pippin, but, for a further glimpse into today's Finest FReeper, formerly known as ClaraSuzanne, I present...

Pippin,
in her own 'write'....

Hi! I'm Pippin!

"When I first came to Free Republic in April of 2002, I chose the name of my maternal grandmother "Clara Suzanne" for my screen name. I wanted to honor her memory, and make a statement about my pride in my Canadian connection, which I believe makes me a "whole" person. Clara is also the name of the saint whose rule I follow as I try to live by the Gospel.

Saint Clare of Assisi

I believe one should never be ashamed of their heritage whatever it may be. Whether it is Canadian or English, French, Spanish or German or any other nationality. We are a nation of immigrants.

We are the sons and daughters of those who came over from these and other countries for various reasons; yet, they had the same goals and dreams in mind. That is to secure a better life and future for their children and their children's children.

This leads to one of my interests, genealogy; I think it is important for us to investigate our family's past. To learn about our ancestors and to learn of the time they lived in and what they did for a living where they lived and why they did the things they did, like emigrated to America or Canada from their homelands. Why they settled where they did. I believe it is a great thing to know where we came from to know where we are going.

Pippin, with her
brother and sisters

I was born in Marion, Indiana, (that's right! I'm a Hoosier!). When I was about 6, my family moved to East Tennessee, where my father was born and raised. We lived in an old house with a big porch and a ghost! (Course it wasn't a ghost that scared me the most! It was a snake in the outhouse!)

We weren't there very long; I think it was about 8 months. Dad couldn't find a job there so we moved to Maryland; this was about 1965. We stayed with my aunt (one of dad's sisters) when we first came to Maryland, she lived with her husband and four children in a row home in Baltimore. We stayed there till dad found a job in Odenton and we moved into a trailerpark there.

We had some great times there in the trailerpark. Back then, we didn't have the problems in society that we have now. Us kids would go over to other trailers and stay with our friends, our parents always knew were we were. The only fear we had of the dark was when the bats came out; someone started a rumor that the bats would build their nests in some unsuspecting person's hair. This is were I started to school, along with my sister, Cathy and my brother, David. My other sister was too young to go to school yet.

In November of 1966, Dad found a house in Glen Bernie, a few miles north of Odenton. We moved there and I lived in the same house for thirty years. I didn't start living on my own until I was nearly 40. I moved into my first apartment in February of 1996. It was in December of last year when I moved to Linthicum. So, another adventure begins!

When I was growing up in the 70's, I wasn't much interested in politics or any of that "grownup" stuff. (Dad was a life long Republican though he got mad when Nixon lost the presidential election to JFK in 1960 he vowed never to vote again!) My interests were history and reading lots of books both fiction and non-fiction, I liked biographies of politicians and celebrities as well as king and queens. I also liked adventures.

I was not too familiar with sci-fi until a friend in high school turned me on to Star Trek; it wasn't long before I was "hooked"! Before I knew it, I was going to convention and reading everything I could get my hands on about sci-fi. Then I got into British programming and discovered shows and books like "Dr. Who" and a lot of the British comedies.

I got curious about the books written by JRR Tolkien, mainly "The Hobbit" and the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and got into hobbits and wizards and elves. It was and is fun. I discovered I didn't have to be all-serious all the time. Life's too short for that!

I was a registered Democrat for 20 years from 1976 until 1996 when I grew disillusioned with the Democratic Party and all it stood for. I realized I was no liberal and I should quit lying to myself.

I still voted as a Democrat, but I voted for Republicans that year. I wanted so badly for that Dem/Lib pervert to lose! It was then that I became a registered Republican. I had found that I had so much in common with my conservative friends. I found myself!

I voted for the first time as a registered Republican in 2000, I voted for GWB of coarse! And I am proud I did! I love this President because of his faith in God and his love for his family and his country. He and First Lady Laura Bush are a breath of fresh air after the last eight years!

I did not know about Free Republic until February of 2001, when I was watching c-span and they had John Robinson on talking about the site he and his father, Jim Robinson, had founded in 1996. I copied down the url address of the website and went to it. I was fascinated by it and was drawn to Rintense's thread about President Bush's day. I became hooked fast! I lurked for a year since I didn't know much about computers and didn't know how I could register. I finally registered in April of 2002 and the rest is history.

I love my Country and my family and My God (Not in that order) God always comes first for me. In 2000 I was professed into the Secular Franciscan Order.

I try to live according to the rule of St. Francis of Assisi and to follow the teachings of Jesus according to the Gospels.

I also honor and salute the men and women of our armed forces, along with the police and firefighters who every day risk their lives for our country and for our freedom and security.

May God bless America and our troops and may He bless President Bush and his family. And, God bless Jim Robinson and Free Republic!"

Thank you, Pippin, for your contributions
to FreeRepublic and for being a special
part of our FINEST FAMILY.

I wonder if there's a statistically significant pattern to the hugs.
Do you get more earlier in the week? Later in the day? More in bad weather or good? Do you think it matters what you wear? Or is it all just a question of attitude?
::still thinking of doing a definitive statistical study of Louie and hugs::

Simple explanation.....they see me and their huggin' instincts go into overdrive. The girls can't help it. LOL
