CALL YOUR SENATORS -- TELL THEM GOP WON THE ELECTION -- GOP COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN NEEDED ASAP
Roll Call and C-SPAN Hearings from the Senate ^ | 14 January 2003 | Various

CALL YOUR SENATORS -- TELL THEM GOP WON THE ELECTION -- GOP COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN NEEDED ASAP

For those of you that may not know, the DemocRATs in control of the Senate Minority led by ms. clinton (don't be fooled by anyone -- she is calling the shots) have decided not to recognize the results of the last election and are maintaining Committee Chairmanship until the Republicans give them what they want.

The Memo below from Roll Call in October laid out their plans. What the DemocRATs did not expect was a Republican controlled Senate so now they are refusing to vote on a continuing resolution to keep the Government running and thus hand over control of the Senate Committees. It is to try and force Republicans to cave into their demands or Republicans will get no Committee Chairmanships. What they want is equal funding for Committees and 50/50 shared committees which is not an option.

There is a thread running about the Senate actions today at:

EVERYONE SHOULD BE WATCHING C-SPAN2

Right now we have 11 newly elected Senators that do not have Committee assignments because of this DemocRAT Obstructionist tactic.

Call your DemocRAT Senators (you have my sympathy) and let them know as a taxpayer you will not tolerate this stunt of theirs to withhold Committee Chairmanships from Republicans. Remind them that there are 11 new Senators without Committees and you are holding them responsible for this attempt on the part of the DemocRATs to hijack the Senate!

If you have Republican Senators, call them and tell them to keep up the fight and that we are behind them 100%!

Please call your Senators now. If you would like their phone numbers, you can find them at:

http://www.senate.gov/

Thanks!

I forgot that I am in Connecticut for the next few weeks. I can get two more senators to blast - Dodd and Lieberman. Oh well, I'll call and ask why Lieberman is being sooo partisan when national security and safety is at stake here.

I like the suggestion on another thread. If they don't take 2/3-1/3, change it down - 3/4-1/4, and keep going down until they agree.

I'll contact Breaux and Landrieu for all the good it will do. If Breaux stands for this nonsense it tells me all of his talk about being a bridge between the parties is really nothing more than b.s. I don't care if a lot of people in Louisiana love him, I'm disappointed in his performance (no to Judge Shedd, no to Bush's tax cut) and will vigorously support anyone that runs against him.

But I blame Lott the most.

Amen! It was Lott that gave us the stupid "precedent" of 50-50 power sharing anyway. Thank GOD in Heaven he is no longer SML!!!!! Lott was a liability not an asset.

the 'rats will have a black eye for it.

No they won't. They'll have every ignoramus in the country (and that's at least half the population) parroting the line that "Republicans are mean and unfair and all they care about is money", which they will have been fed by the media, and this obstruction will be turned into OUR fault just like the government shutdown was.

All this when they are supposed to get busy on a tax cut. This will play right into the class-warfare thing. "Why, the Republicans won't even return a favor the Democrats did them out of the goodness of their hearts (ha!); if they won't show a minimum of gratitude to their own colleagues, with whom they have to work every day, what kind of slack do you think they'll cut a lowly wage slave like yourself?"

I saw this story on Brit Hume's show and it confirms what Vice president Cheney said on Meet The Depressed when he said Tom Daschle was an obstructionist. I'm drafting a letter right now

Yep blame everything thats wrong on Lott. Everythings his fault is it? Ask the President what he thinks of Lott. Why not check on Lotts record darn near a 100 conservative rating.

This is truly incredible; coup is too strong a term but only just. Any suggestions as to how those of us with no Republican representatives (I am in Seattle) can influence the Republicans to ‘stay the course’ as it were? If the Republicans cave on this we are screwed

BTW the only place, other than here, I have heard anything about this is on, Hugh Hewitt exhalent show

Yep blame everything thats wrong on Lott.

He was a spineless girly-man. The 50-50 power sharing was one of his more stupid ideas. (And he had plenty!) Thank GOD a real man is SML!

I'd do that in a New York minute if I wasn't such a voice in the dark. Oh, wait, a New York minute won't work, either!

Actually, in a perverse way I almost want Davis' tax increases -- when Joe and Jane sixpack start paying 1% more on sales tax (a REGRESSIVE tax) and lose more on their income tax than they get from the feds, Kalifornians (first and foremost a selfish lot -- I can say that 'cuz I am a native) will toss the bums out.
