White supremacists plan anti-Somali rally

LEWISTON, Maine (Reuters) -- A white supremacist group whose leader is accused of trying to have a federal judge murdered said on Thursday it will proceed with plans to protest an "invasion" of this New England college community by Somali immigrants.

A spokesman for the World Church of the Creator said the group, which preaches hatred of Jews and blacks on its Web site, would stage a two-hour rally on Saturday in Lewiston, where it says the local white population is fed up with the influx of immigrants from the war-torn East African nation.

The spokesman, the Rev. John King of Newport News, Virginia, said the Lewiston protest would go ahead despite the arrest on Wednesday in Chicago of the Rev. Matt Hale on charges he tried to solicit the murder of U.S. District Court Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow.

Hale, 31, was arrested as he arrived at Chicago's federal courthouse to face a possible contempt charge for refusing to obey Lefkow's November ruling in a trademark case.

Hale told Reuters before his arrest that the Somalis were "invading" Lewiston, and that the residents of Maine's second-biggest city had welcomed his church's planned rally with open arms.

"The people of Lewiston want us there," said Hale, who claims he receives as many as five positive e-mails a day from local residents. "We've never received the groundswell of support we've gotten from the people of Lewiston."

But Phil Nadeau, Lewiston's assistant city administrator, said he doubted Hale's claims.

"He could say that aliens from Mars want him here, but can he prove it?" Nadeau said. "My impression is there's a significant number of people in this community who don't support him and a handful who do."

He noted that while only 40 or 50 people were expected to turn up for the white supremacists' rally, hundreds -- maybe thousands -- may attend a planned counter-demonstration the same day that will focus on diversity and attempt to show that Lewiston is embracing its newest residents.

For years, the former mill town was simply known as the place where Muhammad Ali flattened Sonny Liston in 1965.

But its booming Somali immigrant community has thrust Lewiston into the spotlight. More than 1,100 Somalis, seeking affordable housing, have moved to the city of 36,000 people in the past year.

To review recent events, last year, 19 Muslims slaughtered thousands of Americans on U.S. soil. Since then, one Muslim tried to blow up a U.S. commercial jet with a shoe bomb and another Muslim shot up Los Angeles airport. The Religion of Peace has also been active abroad, decapitating an American journalist and blowing up a French tanker. In the last few weeks alone, Muslims bombed a nightclub in Bali and were narrowly prevented from slaughtering hundreds of theater-goers in Moscow.

Muslims argue against the Caners' book the way liberals argue against all incontrovertible facts. They deny the meaning of words, posit irrelevant counterpoints, and attack the Caners' motives.

Ibrahim Hooper, with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, says that by "6 years old" the Hadith really means "16 years old" and "9" means "19" -- numbers as similar in Arabic as they are in English. Hooper also makes the compelling argument that the Caner brothers -- who say they wrote their book out of love for Muslims whom they want to see in heaven -- are full of "hate."

Other Islamic scholars concede the facts but argue that Muhammad's marriage to a 6-year-old girl was an anomaly. Oh, OK, never mind. Still others explain that Muhammad's marriage to a 6-year-old girl was of great benefit to her education and served to reinforce political allegiances.

So was she really 16, or was it terrific that he had sex with a 9-year-old to improve her education? This is like listening to some Muslims' earlier argument-in-the-alternative that the Zionists attacked the World Trade Center, but America brought the attack on itself anyway.

Muhammad makes L. Ron Hubbard look like Jesus Christ. Most people think nothing of assuming every Scientologist is a crackpot. Why should Islam be subject to presumption of respect because it's a religion? Liberals bar the most benign expressions of religion by little America. Only a religion that is highly correlated with fascistic attacks on the U.S. demands their respect and protection.

The good people of Lewiston need to stand up and speak the truth. Don't be afraid of the racist label. It is thrown around so much by the Socialists that it has little if any meaning left. Reasonable people are persuaded by logical, fact based arguments. Stand up, weather the storm, rely on facts and logic, stay strong and your message will resonate. Most people are content to reach a certain level of material comfort, and then they want to relax.

It's not immoral; it's just human nature.

The only way the powers that be have of making people work hard is to flood the country with immigrants who are all too willing to take jobs away from contented Americans.

Immigration is about keeping the American workforce subserviant--that's why the majority of Americans, who would like to see immigration curtailed, are ignored.

Since Hispanics include many nationalities, Mexicans are even a smaller percentage in California.

The reaction of some on this thread to the article has been down-right scary. Allying with the WCC is wrong. Never trust the WCC or anyone like them. The liberals would love to link conservatives with the WCC and we should not make it easier. I strongly believe that the United States can and should enforce the immgration laws on the books. Enforcing immgration, naturalization, and resident alien laws are necessary to the security of the nation. In some areas the laws need to be tighted so that they are not abused. However, supporting the WCC is a threat to the rest of our conservative agenda. We should support the agenda of a fair and safe America - opposing the WCC and supporting the enforcement of immgration law is necessary to do both.

America is like a ship: it can only handle so many passengers.

Fact: social services are strained to the breaking point because so many of these, legal and illegal, receive welfare, etc.

Fact: many hospitals are shutting down their emergency rooms (three in my immediate area) largely because of the flood of immigrants, legal and illegal, demanding free medical services.

Fact: housing prices are going through the roof in many communities, because immigrants, legal and illegal, are straining the market.

Granted, they are not all Mexican, but, the issue we are discussing is whether or not they have a right to be here. (The illegals and incoming, that is.)

The problem is that GW is going to grant blanket amnesty to all illegals. That's the issue.

The problem is that current, existing immigration laws are not being enforced. That's the problem.

Would you say it would be hard to determine the percentage of illegals since the census bureau has no accurate way to count them.
The problem with the Somalis is that they are LEGAL immigrants coming over here as refugees. They travel around looking for places that give out big welfare checks and have a low crime rate.
Why do you think they left Atlanta?
Legal immigration needs to be reduced to a level in which today's federal government can handle (which isn't much). Ref. 9-11.
