Apparently that's what the lives of two "little people" are worth.

The writer keeps stressing that it's more than first-timers usually receive, like this is some extra whammy because he's an FBI agent.

BS! I say that killing somebody when you're driving drunk should be way more than whatever slap-on-the-wrist minimum they're using as an example. This idea of "first-time offender" status doesn't make a damn bit of difference to the dead guy, and it makes people think (correctly) that they can make a MAJOR screw-up almost for free.

IMO, five years should be a minimum for the purpose of making you change your behavior permanently and making others think twice about driving drunk.

The max was 6 months, and I doubt that would have been satisfactory to anyone either. Just a bit of O.J. karma comin' round. Similar escapes from justice happen every day, just not with federal agents or football hall of famers.

He could have faced 30 years in prison if a jury had convicted him of DUI manslaughter in November. But jurors cleared the former agent of the most serious charges -- convicting him only of six misdemeanors.

I wish I'd sat on that jury.

A year ago December 5th, my mother, Shirley Norkunas, was killed in a car wreck. She was on her way to a Dr.'s appointment. The roads and weather were clear, it was about 9 in the morning, the place was just south of Superior, WI on State Hwy 35. She was driving north toward Superior.

A fellow named Thomas Frankot was heading south that morning, driving on a suspended license. He crossed into my mother's lane, she was killed instantly in the resulting crash.

Thomas Frankot lived. He is essentially judgement proof, with very few assets.

He, after much wrangling, finally pled guilty in September to driving after suspension and driving left of center.

He was fined $363, license suspended for six months, and given sixty days to pay.

That's not even the funny part.

Last I checked, he had not paid the fine, even though the sixty days had lapsed. I asked the clerk of courts what happens then.

They suspend his license.

Now, that's justice for ya.

Were it me, I'd be dispensing some justice of my own.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I can't really think of any words that would effectively convey my empathy for your mother and your family, or my disgust at the injustice you have all suffered.

My only consolation in times of such injustice is that those who would do such things will eventually suffer the just rewards. Their behavior will be their undoing, and life will not be kind to them.

At worst, the miserable guy leads his miserable life, and goes to his just reward.

At best, he has an epiphany, becomes less miserable, leads a better life, and goes to his just reward.

As for justice on my own, I'm not going to let him ruin my life.
