Hi gang!
Hubby has a bad cold (and, Holy Pete, you men are such babies when you're sick!)but unfortunetly I don't have any single-malt whiskey at hand to make my sure-fire cold curer. So, my question is: Do any of y'all have a cold-curer that uses wine?
I have a bottle of extra-dry vermouth, 1/2 a bottle of med-dry red wine, and a full bottle of a somewhat sweet Italian red wine. Needless to say, I also have lemon, and tea, and other "cold-curer" stuff like that.
Thanks in advance and oh, Goober says, 'Hey'.

Brandy slow heated very slow -- add honey gradually and keep heating slowly. Old family recipe..even if the cold is not cured, you don't care after a couple....

Just mix all of that stuff you have together and simmer a few mins....let him sip until it is gone and I am sure he will feel MUCH better!

Give him a glass of the medium-dry red with a bowl of chicken soup........now, do you need a recipe for chicken soup?

Take two ounces of honey in glass, place in microwave, heat till it starts to boil, remove, add two ounces of christian brothers brandy, squeeze a half of lemon into it,stir, drink all at one gulp and go to bed and cover up,will be fine in morning.

Why don't you go get the whiskey? They stock extra this time of year.

Zicam!
It's amazing stuff. Since it was recommended to me two years or so ago, I've felt colds coming on but they have never reached the point where I have to breath through my mouth. My recollection is that it quickly ended the cold I had the first time I used it, but of this I am no longer sure.
Zicam is a zinc-based nasel gel. A little bottle, which lasts a long time, costs about ten bucks. It's over-the-counter, and I have no connection with it except as a customer.

Most colds in our family tend to be sinus related so our family cure tends to reflect that.
1 cup hot black tea
add sugar to taste
1 Tbs Honey
1 Tbs lemon extract
1 Tbs eucaliptus(sp?) oil (available at most health food stores)
stir
drink while hot
Warning - nasty stuff but usually clears the head.

OK. What is your sure-fire cold curer with single malt whiskey?
To: yankeedame
I can't add anything to the whiskey remedies but the worst part of a cold for me is after it is gone. I am left with a sinus infection that can hang on for months & require antibiotics to cure. The last couple of colds I have caught I have tried something different. I use nasal saline nose drops about every 2 hours & really keep my head open. The bacterial sinus infection doesn't have a chance to develop. The cold is a short lived virus & leaves on its own.

Go to a max dose of Vitamin C for two days and the cold will be gone. Use the wine to wash the C tablets down....No cold and very relaxed, too!!
Also consider talking to him "a real lot". Sometimes this is just the thing to bring about a quick recovery and it becomes a good lesson for his future. (Poor baby!!).

Ummm... I guess from the posts, you were looking for something more along the lines of "granpappy's secret med'cine" In such a case, there is only one course of action:
Jaegermeister.
However, I'm always leary of drinking alcohol during a cold. You wanna stay hydrated at least. Might I suggest the over-the-counter version of Jaegermeister?
Nyquil!
But, seriously, dose him up with Nyquil and then this is a remedy that works amazingly well. Boil ginger root in water, add lemon and honey. I've had a great deal of luck with this. Maybe add some Jaegermeister, it couldn't hurt!
Hope the hubby gets better soon!
