Auld Lang Syne
(The Song That Nobody Knows)
Robert Burns
Scottish Poet (1759-1796)
Robert Burns sent a copy of the original song to the British Museum with this comment: "The following song, an old song, of the olden times, and which has never been in print, nor even in manuscript until I took it down from an old man's singing , is enough to recommend any air." (Gavin Grieg: "Last Leaves of Traditional Ballads")
Everybody has heard and maybe even sung this famous song, but what the heck does it mean? Here's the answer.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!
Chorus -
For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
And surely ye'll be your pint stowp!
And surely I'll be mine!
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
Chorus-
For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine;
But we've wander'd mony a weary fit
Sin' auld lang syne.
Chorus-
For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl'd in the burn,
Frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us briad hae roar'd
Sin' auld lang syne.
Chorus-
For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
And there's a hand, my trusty fere!
And gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak' a right gude-willie waught,
For auld lang syne.
Chorus-
For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
I am now back to my bed, but with dreams of y'all having a wonderful party, drinking my share of "Fraps" or spiced cider.
May God be your protector.
Then you would have a very lonely party.....
Whenever was I declared a "lady"? How dare you? I am a FIGMENT, pure, unadulterated figment.
Whoever! You lovable, little rascal! You almost missed me. LOL
Gosh, I'm glad I saw you....er....imagined you....before I left. : )
r u knows full well not to make mine strawberry - anything other than chocolate does not pass my lips. I am surprised that you did not ask for double pineapple.
Thought about it. : )
Although the hazelnut is really quite good,,, you might give one a try.
Might just do that. : )
Happy New Year to each and every one. (oops, each and every one of you, not the Fraps.)
LOL!
May God grant you the peace, happiness, joy, friendship, fellowship, health, adequate wealth,
the reality of His sacrificial love as you have never known it before.
Thank you, sweet Who. We wish the very same for you.
I do hope to be back online a little bit in a day or two.
Sure hope so.....I just love knowing you're there. : )
I have hopes and dreams to be able to read the thread soon.
You will, Who, you will.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, FREEPERS, ONE AND ALL !!!!!!! May God watch over and be with us all.
Happy New Year, sweetheart! God bless you!
Then you would have a very lonely party.....
Ummmmm....I don't think so. : )
Whenever was I declared a "lady"? How dare you? I am a FIGMENT, pure, unadulterated figment.
BUT....you're MY figment....therefore, you're beautiful, a 'lady', and ready to party with this wolf!
Put your dancin' shoes on, babe! : )
AhRooooo!!!!
Say, squeezin' me kinda tight, ain't ya? I like it! LOL
For sure! Love that woman! : )
