WASHINGTON — In a lunchtime discussion this week, Sen. Patty Murray told a group of high-school students to think about how Osama bin Laden's generosity to the poor may have helped him win support around the world.

Murray: you are one of the "extreme fringes" in society--a far left idiot spouting far too many examples of your hate for America! Go away! Go to Afganistan, stay there, and learn how women are treated there and how badly they were treated by the Taliban before.

SENATOR PATTY MURRAY COMMENTS ON TORRICELLI RETIREMENT
Bob has been a tireless public servant and we thank him for his 20 years devoted to the nation. Bob was a successful chairman of the DSCC, helping us capture control in 2001 and with it a chance for Democrats to serve as a check on Republicans in Washington.

We will miss his strong advocacy on a host of issues and hope his last few months in the U.S. Senate are just as constructive and beneficial to America's families as the rest of his career.

Torricelli a disgrace
Those in the Senate-...slung their arms around their embattled colleague and stumped with him throughout the Garden State. ...

And once Torricelli called it quits, the bouquets kept coming. Sen. Patty Murray of Washington said of her colleague: "He put his state and party ahead of his personal ambition."
Not to split hairs, but the exact opposite is true.
[Torricelli] put his own ambition ahead of his state and party.

I just wrote to the Seattle Times. Also contacted a number of media outlets regarding Murray's remarks which are an insult to the families of those murdered on 9-11-01. Furthermore, bin Laden promotes the suppression of women and intolerance of other religions.

Glad to see you posted this thread....we must not let the media ignore Murray's outrageous statements.

An Open Letter To Senator Patty Murray

Dear Patty,

This letter is a special request, one I hope you'll heed. It is a request for your immediate resignation from the United States Senate.

Y'see, Patty, you've made a rather large mistake. You've praised a known terrorist and murder as "humanitarian". Worse, this terrorist has killed US citizens on US soil. This country is currently at war with this terrorist and his organisation, which is not in any way a charitable group. They do not build day care centres - there is no need for such a thing in a country where Taliban rules forced women to stay at home with the children. They did build schools, but only those which boys could attend - boys who were inculcated with hatred through a perversion of the Noble Qur'an by Usama bin Laden and his cohorts.

You stated in your comments to high school students that bin Laden has done more charitable works than the United States. Let's see - bin Laden blows up 3,000 people on September 11, 2001. While the United States sends BILLIONS to countries around the world, including Afghanistan (which received over $100 million in the past year, if memory serves). Unless you call the wanton murder of innocents a charitable act, I think you're barkin' up the wrong tree here.

Your words were not meant to "foster debate", madam. They were meant to harm the United States. You know this, although you'll never have the guts to admit it publicly. If you want to blame yourself for your failings, be my guest. But don't blame the United States for the evil acts of others, and then pretend that those evil actors are instead "humanitarians".

Oh, and when you tender your resignation, I suggest you read the Constitution of the United States. You know, the one you supposedly swore an oath to when you became a senator. The one you were supposed to defend. There's a specific passage I'd like you to focus on -

Article III, Section 3
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."

You have, by your words, given aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States during a time of war. As a member of the leadership of this nation, your words are given much greater range and strength, thereby compounding your guilt.

I would say that you should be ashamed of yourself. But it seems obvious that you have no shame. Sad, really.

Please resign immediately.

Doha, Qatar

BTW, the vote right now is 94% for resignation, 6% against...

Exactly!

I'd like to know where the heck she gets this. She spouts off this stuff as "facts"...well, where's the proof/evidence that OBL did anything for anyone that wasn't part of his goal to kill/get rid of the infidels?
Yeah he built schools- to further indoctrinate the people with his brand of fundamentalism
As for roads etc, maybe Patty thinks building terrorist training camps qualifies?
Housing for widows? I guess paying people to commit suicide counts, according to the liberals.

She also knows nothing about the roots of terrorism, cuz being poor sure isn't one of them.

What's also aggravating is that this really should be front page news. If I've got to see a line about "but critics are demanding closer scrutiny of his record on race relations" regarding Fritz (on foxnews.com no less), what aren't I seeing the blatant disinformation of Murray being publicized?!?!?
Why not publicize the ongoing work worldwide paid for by the USA, and the works of groups like the Peace Corps?
I can name several church groups around here that make regular trips to third world countries to build houses, churches and schools, and provide goods and services like clothes, medical attention and computers.

If a Republican had made a gaffe like this, well, they'd have lost their high elected office or tied in the court of public opinion (the newspapers)...you get the picture.
Murray clearly belongs to the Blame America First crowd--we can't do anything but harm to the 3rd world, use too many resources, etc.
Her obscenity (besides praising OBL) is that she overlooks, or perhaps doesn't know, about the Marshall Plan, how we rebuilt Japan and Korea. Besides private church groups, national guardsmen from the states are drilling wells in Guatamala, filling the rice bowls in Afghan (I could go on and on). Somebody in public policy, say the Vice President, needs to call attention to her ignorance and clarify the record. Otherwise, like Bellesiles' book, her fiction will become printed fact.

DocFarmer, that is SUCH a fine, fine letter. We have a lot of talent in this group. If you don't mind, I'd like to borrow some of it for some of my own letters.

Thanks again for your help.

I'd love to see her go. I'll write up something and submit ti too. She's not my senator (I've got "the next best thing"), but she does affect me by her votes in the US Senate. She has got to resign. I guess September 11th is just like any other day to her......

Brit Hume on Fox News Sunday did discuss Sen. Murray's remarkds with Sen. Biden who 'ducked & spun' his way around the 'double standard' of the media.

Biden said that Murray was pointing out all the beautiful mosques OBL has built. To which Hume responded....many of those are schools for terrorism!

Has anyone heard Murray's statements discussed on any other Sunday Talk Show?

We don't really want Murray ousted because Locke would just appoint another Democrat, maybe one with more brains than Murray. Murray is more useful as a political hot potato.

I take your point, Eva, and have been worried about this.

One thing: we probably don't have to worry. I'm thinking now that she'd never resign anyway. Only conservatives do honorable things these days.

Now that I think of it, the Repubs are probably too shell shocked (after the Lott fiasco) to put up much of a stink about her. When...oh, when will the GOP get some f..in' backbone ?

"I'd thought Patty Murray was a lesbian due to her extensive work with the sodomite community. Was I off base here?"

She looks like a lesbian dike. Close enough
