"it blew up even bigger, he made a few phone calls and dismissed it"(maybe because no one thought it was racist until someone started a rumor that it was)

I wonder how that happened? If he has such a tin ear for politics how come he is still there after all these years? In fact, how come he is still there if he is a racist? Wouldn't someone know that before now? If so, why haven't they kicked him out before now? Are they all racist for having ignored "the fact" that Lott is a racist?

"the people who have a problem with all the harm he's brought on the party"

I have a problem with the people who keep falling for dirty tricks.

Wait....I didn't see the interview: Did he actually say that he supports AA and that he would reconsider Pickering's nomination? If this is true....my support for Lott is over. For good.

I take it he didn't do well??

Classic understatement. He was combative, not contrite. Worse of all, he was pander bear offering gifts for the civil rights people if they would only let him remain Majority Leader.

Classic line was saying he supports affirmative action. When challenged on the fact that he has always opposed it, he pointed out he had hired blacks on his staff. Then it was pointed out that he had one black on his staff. Oh yeah, Trent did himself good tonight.

If he is capable of analysing his own situation, he should announce that he is stepping down as Majority Leader tomorrow. He's toast.

"Maybe if the Party leadership would embrace Dr. Keyes, as most rank and file Republicans have, instead of stiffarming him, the GOP could start to win some hearts and minds in the minority community."

Thanks, that's exactly what I expected you'd say. You live in a delusion. "Most rank and file Republicans have not embraced Keyes, but it's not about the minority community. It's about how to win some hearts and minds period. And Alan doesn't cut it. But you have put your agenda out there, and I thank you for doing it.

You may now resume your dancing on Trent Lott's grave.

You want him to speak and also zip his lip?

Habs .. I haven't seen the interview yet, I understand it will be on at 11:30 again so then I will have a better idea

But I don't think anything wants him to zip his lip .. just that he doesn't put his foot in his mouth.

In fact, how come he is still there if he is a racist?

What part of nobody but the dems thinks he's a racist don't you understand? It's NOT about racism, it's about political ineptness. How could he NOT know?

His remarks about supporting Affirmative Action as of TONIGHT was did it for me.

I agree. I always thought Lott was a few fries short of a happy meal, but supported him through all this- and blasted the Bush Admin for their poor handling of it. Now, I think all involved look foolish, and the WH is now distancing itself from it all. That is the smart move. It isn't Lott's remarks that have made Republicans look dumb. It's Republicans who've made Republicans look dumb.

Granted, I didn't see the interview, but basaed on what I've read here of his comments, anybody- no matter what color- should be able to see through Lott and his motives. The affirmative action crap just makes me sick.

Lott, your pandering is as obvious as Hillary's fat ass. And both make me sick.

"Whom on this thread is trying to 'appease' anyone? Names, please."

Your reading the same thread I am. All the "real conservatives" who say Lott must go..."what will the 'rats, media, and their supporters on the liberal plantation say about us if we don't do something? He has become a liability to the party...but just don't quit the Senate Lott."

HA!

Lets give up Lott so they won't call us nasty names any more around election time.
It won't work, fools.
they will still be calling you "racist" even if we out liberal the liberals. Even if we sacrifice our racists adulterer and cheats...the Blacks will vote for the Democratic racists, adulterers, and cheats.

Dont say it...I know that isn't fair.

We are watching our Majority in the Senate go down the tubes and most still don't get it. In fact many are cheering it on...not because they really believe Lott is a racist, but because they want a "real conservative"...like Frist.

BEAM ME UP !!!!!

Instead of backing up our team, they knife Lott in the back and are then outraged when he says I'm outta here...Lets see what the Dems are offering? What did you expect Einstien? The Dems never eat their own...they understand loyalty to their players - like Byrd, Jackson, and Sharpton. I mean Jesus wept...they got a friggin' murderer in the Senate from MS...and they love him.

We talk all the time about Kennedy drinking and exposing himself...do the 'rats worry about it? Nope cause they know they can count on the babes with stained dresses to vote for them everytime...anybody asking the fat drunk streaking murderer to step down...nope...WHY? Cause he says the right words for PC people...like 50% of Freerepublic that got into bed with Sharpton and Jackson to destroy their own party.

That being said Lott has suffered more than enough for a very minor slip...a very very very very minor slip compaired to "hymie town" or "F-ing Jew Bastard."

STUPID PARTY
STUPID PARTY
STUPID PARTY

I wonder what ALL Mississippians think of the way Lott has been treated? Do you think they will still support a Republican Party that has abandoned someone they know isn't a racist but has been labeled one? I think Pres. Bush needed Mississippi to become President. Do you think they will still support someone who didn't support Lott when the enemy attacked him?

You, also, seem to be a racist.

Anyone who isn't PC, is a racist to you?

Vividly.

Lott's an idiot, which he proved yet again by stating, "I didn't realize how important Martin Luther King was to the African-American community [when he voted against MLKDay]."

He's not just wearing a sign that says "Kick Me." He's singing a "Kick Me" aria in a vibrant coloratura soprano to everyone he meets.

He's gotta go. Before Christmas, when nobody's looking.

You took what I said out of context or misunderstood.

The whole reason for the interview and this thread is "segregation," I find it ironic is all that Lott did this interview on a segregated (mostly if not all black) channel.See post 670 and 674. Possibly MiaT explained better than I.

But we need to throw out a few more if that's the case. In fact, where does it stop if we must throw out all the stupid ones?

Look, if Lott were just a Senator from Mississippi who would give a rat's behind how stupid he is? But he's in line to be the single most powerful person in the Senate, and to exhibit his lack of fundamental commonsense at this stage of the game is appalling.

Politics is bloodsport, and Lott plays like it's co-ed volleyball. Get him out of the way, let him have all the pork Mississippi wants, then put someone in leadership who thinks like a conservative, fights like a liberal, and acts like a statesman....
