You look like the kool-aid drinking knee padder here my friend.....did you even see the BET interview?

"Lott just said he favors affirmative action 'across the board.' " Reap the whirlwind. By the end of the week, Trent Lott will be an expert in Ebonics, and may improve his vertical leap a few inches as well.
LOL!

It is time for sensible Republicans to zipper their lips and show discretion. Does this mean you're not going to call me any more names? ;-)

Trent Lott should announce he is stepping down as the ML and say he will support who ever is chosen to lead the party and he will make every effort to help the Party of Lincoln continue to represent all of America.
I do not think by any stretch of the imagination that he should resign from the Senate. In this case, The people of Mississippi elected him and ONLY the people of Mississippi should make that decision.

It's not a racist issue, for Lott. It's a stupidity issue. He's so stupid, it should be a crime. Thank you..His crime is he is a lousy leader..a real leader measures his words and considers the circumstances. He did not and now he MUST resign his leadership position..
He has put the Republicans in a corner and to get himself out he will compromise more than he usually does .
Time for Chester to go..

Ashcroft will never find himself in this kind of situation Want to bet? James Carville made this a issue. He can do it again because people keep falling for it even when they see it right in front of their faces.

He tried to explain that tonight but got taken off track by the moderator.... plus he is a few days late with it now. But he was attempting to say that he was thinking of Strom as he knew him now and over the past 20 years or so and not the segregation parts of Strom's life....

I don't think you understand. It's not what Lott said at the party, it's the very poor way he handled the entire sitation AFTERWARDS. A skilled politician should have been able to handle this, sure there would have been some bumps and a few bruises, but a skilled man could have escaped without painting himself and his entire party, and the entire south as racist.
When asked about affirmative action, he should have said it's one of the most racists programs ever conceived. It was very necessary 30 years ago when a republican president got it passed, but now it is destructive to the very people it was intended to help.
When this whole thing started, he should have come out and said IN PERSON that he apologized for his statement but not because of what he said but how it was interpreted. Strom Thurmond changed over the years and I assumed everyone had forgiven his segrigationist past. I assumed that was all dead and gone and that everyone would know I was talking about his stance on military strength. Our young men and women are laying their lives on the line right now at 40% of their former strength yada yada yada.
But he didn't do that, he sent out a statement by staff and went on vacation. When it blew up even bigger, he made a few phone calls and dismissed it. He has a political tin ear and that's fine for an ordinary senator but dangerous in a majority leader who has been targeted. Skill could have put this all to rest the first few days.

But!!! Trent Lott is the one who abandoned Trent Lott That is an excellent point, and it bears repeating.
Lott has committed one stupid blunder after another since this fiasco started, yet many blame the people who have a problem with all the harm he's brought on the party.
To: hinckley buzzard
"Are you for or against affirmative action?"What about all the white mississippians who voted for Lott because of his record against affirmative action. How do they feel tonight?
To: cake_crumb
in spite of all the efforts to cool the situation down You are really helping...
