My true concern is this-
As elections come every member of the Character does NOT matter party will forward the sound bite of Lott at Stroms Birthday party along with a side by side pic of the republican candidate..
Then the Dim will ask : why the republican did not condemn such racist attitudes which were brought to light?
This is much bigger than cheating on ones wife.
Its cheating on the principals that the US was founded on and then its cheating on conservatism and then the GOP.
It will cost for many many years to come.
Lott said if removed from ML post he will not resign.
Dont you believe him?

There is another fact that just came to mind.
In the Senate, they are very carefully not to criticize the House. It is considered a violation of political ethics.

Sorry, did'nt mean to provide talking points to the Dem's. I'm sure they're quite capable without my help.
My task was to point out that Lott is a liability to the entire party, now and forever, to those here who have their backs up or their panties in a wad about "the left" forcing out "our leader". They need to realize that ANY one who is a liability to the party HAS TO GO. Lott, retained as maj ldr, will be forced to make all sorts of compromises so as not to look racist to the press. His voting record will be cast as racist and compared with disdain to John Ashcroft's. Everything he says will be viewed through that prism, and Bush will spend the next two years explaining Lott. Every policy...every photo op...every day of his life.

See 138, I understand he does not want to bash especially at this time but I really believe this was his train of thought and outright honestly kindly explaining the difference in the RIGHT AND THE LEFTS ISSUES, would explain-quickly and easily.
I can think of no other out for him. He will be marked a right winger, or racist he must explain or he is doomed in the senate-PERIOD.
I really believe this is what he was thinking when he said the statement-and it is now hard to explain politically now w/out looking like what you say- bashing.
To: Kay Soze
Lott did not say this. All this resignation stuff is comming from staffers and pundits.
If you have a quote directly from Lott, I would like to see it.

I hear ya but Puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuulease! :-)
Since when has political ethics been utilized by the democrats in what has become 'national' politicking? This is a national news matter, outside of any house or senate protocol.
There is a way he can do this with savvy wording to end it all.
Let's face it he does not think before he speaks, he made a dumb@ss statement, (so who wants this as a ML no matter how conservative the bumbling fool is?) he has to lie in his bed and end it.

No, Lott is a big States Rights advocate, as are many southerners. This goes back to the Civil War, and is often misconstrued with segregation and racism.
In todays society, this mis-perception is simply not true, and it was only partly true then.
The southern states wanted the freedom to determine their own destiny regarding many issues that they felt the federal government was infringing on.
Slavery was but one of them then and is not even considered now.

From the WashPost today ... "Lott sought statements of support last week from national security adviser Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell but was rebuffed. Some White House officials said it was clumsy of Lott to ask."
Clumsiness? No. How about pure stupidity!

What's the difference, anyway? With the term limits we have in this country won't he be, like, out, like, next year (or is it the year after that)?

Yes, the Battle of Ole Miss. I do believe, contrary to the article, that is was covered quite extensively by the news media. The true irony of the James Meredith story is that he became (and still is) a conservative Republican. And the liberal professors and media fail to mention that tidbit as they rail against the racism of '60's Mississippi.
To: SuziQ
Nickles can't be the whip, he's term-limited.

Believe whatever you care to!
Frankly, I quit caring about the B.S. years ago.
Blacks are totally integrated in the south and have political power as well as all the trimmings.
The only places they are currently being oppressed is in the north!

I might be willing to believe you if Lott had ever actually tried to oppose legislation based on the tenth amendment. Lott is as guilty as any of pork-barrel politics. He never objected to mandating that citizens of one state pay for a school building in another state (i.e. "the Trent Lott Middle School of Pascagoula Mississippi). Those in the south (like me) who are states rights supporters want our state legislatures to reclaim the powers (willingly given up) that they gave to the fed's.

2nd Amendment Voting record of Frist that you conveniently omitted. You called Frist "anti-2nd amendment" and I merely c/p'd from a web page with his gun voting record, in response. If that voting record is "anti-2nd amendment" by your standards, then I don't need to waste any more time on you.
I don't do kooks.

We lost the battle regarding federal involvement in education many moons ago!
Now it is a battle to make federal dollars more effective. The states largely failed in their abilities and desires to improve education. They catered only to the local needs.
To: wirestripper
Lott does respect 'differences of opinion' but you are saying he respects socialisim/communisim/ "the progressive caucus"? I don't think so.
He indeed would not be lying. (I saw the look on Lott's face and his body language on a C-Span press conference when a Al Sharpton follower was attacking him) with words; Lott clearly pointed out the SHARPTON affiliation and moved on with disgust and complete disrespect)
No one is stupid enough to make this statement that Lott made. (especially when they are in the spotlight as a new ML!) This is a McCauliffe/Carville dream of a set up??? It is too bizarre. So if he would be lying to explain how I have explained I see this as no other feasible reasoning of an explanation and that he is a racist, is he? Do you have knowlege of this?
Do you have any other explanations other than he is racist with a capitol R?
To: Darling Lili
Gun Owners of America gave Frist a "D" rating on his 2nd Amendment voting record. This aroused my curiosity, so I checked his record for myself. Some of his votes were pro-gun, but more often than not he voted the way of Boxer, Feinstein, and Schumer.
There's no need for personal attacks.
To: ewing
So...what is Frist's position on partial birth abortion?

"This can go on for a long time, but suffice to say that for every one instance you can give me of Frist voting pro-2nd Amendment, I can give you 2 instances of the opposite."
That might just mean that he looks at each measure separately, weighs the pros and cons, and votes accordingly?
How have his specific votes, on specific measures, impacted your own personal gun ownership and usage?
