I might be willing to believe you if Lott had ever actually tried to oppose legislation based on the tenth amendment. Lott is as guilty as any of pork-barrel politics. He never objected to mandating that citizens of one state pay for a school building in another state (i.e. "the Trent Lott Middle School of Pascagoula Mississippi). Those in the south (like me) who are states rights supporters want our state legislatures to reclaim the powers (willingly given up) that they gave to the fed's.

We lost the battle regarding federal involvement in education many moons ago!
Now it is a battle to make federal dollars more effective. The states largely failed in their abilities and desires to improve education. They catered only to the local needs.
