A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~ Mixer |

You're right, Mama_Bear, having local children in the Nutcracker is so charming! (Especially if they're yours. :) Tonight I "persuaded" my mom to make gingerbread houses with me. I had a potpourri of candy decorations left over from school and the little milk containers for the house structures... We both had fun and they turned out to be so cute. Wish I'd gotten them done in time for the wonderful Gingerbread House thread! (LOL but I believe I'm getting a digital camera for Christmas, so perhaps I'll get pictures posted belatedly. :)
To: WVNan
It sounds just wonderful! Gosh, you sure have a lot on your plate right now! I'm sure it will come off without a hitch and even if everyone doesn't have a seat, I'm sure they will enjoy your play. :-)
After it's over and you've had a chance to relax a bit, be sure and tell us all about it, okay?
To: Mama_Bear
Yes, I agree, and, personally, am weary of all this mild weather, ready for a storm, but, would settle for just a little rain...any precipitation would be welcome.

I believe I'm getting a digital camera for Christmas, so perhaps I'll get pictures posted belatedly. That would be great! We LOVE pictures. And, I am enjoying the little holiday vignettes that are being posted on the Finest thread. It's nice that people are sharing a bit about what is going on in their world this Christmas. :-)

Well, don't know about you, but I've seen plenty of tired little "nutcrackers" trooping about. ;) LOL! Yeah, and I resemble that comment!......I think it is time to give up and say good night. It's been fun. I've not been able to spend much time on the thread lately and I've enjoyed visiting with everyone.

I've been trying to watch the Barney Cam but my media player is corrupted. (Still, even after installing a new one) So I'm drooping too! Night all. I've enjoyed your company, sweet dreams now. :)

Seriously, thanks again to both of you for your fun contest threads.
They were "fun." And as a general rule, all of the many contestants who lost -- and most of them did -- really can't prove that we were bribed or acting erratically. They may have suspicions, but they can't prove it! Mudboy and I had open and fun divergences of opinion on who should win awards -- e.g., I thought Flyer could win an award even though his dog at his house, Mudboy was skeptical.
But the only contestant who perhaps suspects that he can really prove that we didn't know what we were doing is aeronaut. Aquamarine has cleverly detected that in our compilation of the top ten list entries, we fail to even list Aeronaut's very funny entry. It's clearly appears as if we, while immensely enjoying the list when we first read it, simply failed to recollect it and put it on the list for judging.
<BR. Of course, there is perfectly sensible explanation for what appears at first blush to be, in Aquamarine's words, a "complete overlooking." And, not wanting to hog all the bandwidth, I shall now turn the microphone over to Mudboy Slim who will explain to you all what this explanation is and why this does not reflect poorly upon the judges. Mudboy?

Thanks for asking how the gingerbread houses turned out today.
Great!! Every single gingerbread party, someone comes up with new innovations. This party yielded the following interesting gingerbread facts:
If you take a big candy cane and lay it on its side against the base of the house, with the curl loop upward and stuck to the side of the house, and then put a couple of Kraft's caramels atop the candy cane, and then put a chocolate Santa on top of that, and then use thin red licorice to draw 2 lines from the Santa to the curl of the candycane, you have a perfectly respectable Santa's sleigh!! The sleigh is the sideways candy-cane!
The other thing I learned was the the new holiday mini-oreos make excellent berets for snowman.
Oh, and I also learned (for the umpteenth time) that I love Dean & DeLuca's holiday candy. :)
I had to do these gingerbread parties and then I had to babysit my niece. All in all, a very good day: but I do regret that I was thus previously booked and couldn't attend the DC Chapter holiday party. I had planned to buy Mudboy tequila for co-judging and I had planned to bring a gingerbread house for Tgsltakoma, all if I had time, which I just didn't.

To my 'Babes'. Merry Christmas to you - you adorable wolf, you. :-)

Take care during your move today ! Be careful if you do any lifting!
To: LadyX; Aquamarine; daisyscarlett; lodwick; ST.LOUIE1
What we need now is for loddy and Meekie and wolfie to sing We Three Kinds of Orient Are for the grand finale! Whoo-Whee ! You've obviously never heard me sing before, LOL ! I'll contract it out to the 3 Kings to sing for me.....
