I just sent Chester an email:
"Dear Senator Lott,
If you had a chin, I'd tell you to keep it up. In the mean time, don't do anything rash. Weather this storm!
Thanks for all you have done for us in the past Chester.
Rich"
Because he is a Racist? If not then you should be defending his honor in the face of the lies.
I want the Dems to win this one. All the likely alternatives to Lott will be far more damaging to them. Let the Republicans take the moral high ground and hand a tactical defeat to the Democrats in one stroke (to Lott's hair-sprayed head).
Lott out of ML position, but not out of the Senate.
Nice try, but no stogie. The people who voted for Lott as their senator are the ones to demand that he resign, not me. As majority leader, however, he speaks for the party to which I belong, and I believe he is unsuitable for that leadership position.
You know why you won't? Because you know he did not mean what everyone is implying and you want to keep power.
Nice try at putting words in my mouth. I have made my reasons perfectly clear, as have many columnists on this matter.
If Bush said it you would say everyone was putting words into his mouth and that he was talking about States Rights (Which Lott was)
Nice try again. States rights is a noble concept that was horribly fouled and stained by the Dixiecrats and the bigots in the South at the time - and to this day, if you mention states rights the statists can simply declare that states rights are equated with segregation, because of the likes of the Dixiecrats. That is one reason why this is so important - Federalism is slowly coming back from the dead, and then Lott up and pulls this, which will only serve to discredit the concept.
Because he is a Racist? If not then you should be defending his honor in the face of the lies.
I do not know whether Lott is a racist or not. He has made statements that can be construed as such, but only Lott knows for sure. But, more importantly, this was the most stunning display of poor judgement that he has shown - but there have been many others, and I don't want a leader who cannot think enough to realize when he is going into a minefield that can damage more than just him.
Gee, I'm sorry you find the concept of federalism to be a crock.
We all have the duty to stand for the Truth and Justice and if Lott is Evil we should be CALLING for his resignation.
Nice rhetorical leap. I am not saying that Lott is evil. I don't know if he is racist or not - only he knows that. I am saying that he does not display sufficient judgement to be majority leader.
We all did it with the Congressman from California that MAY have had something to do with a woman's disappearance.
Not all. I never called for Condit to resign. I called for him to come clean. And the people in his district took care of the matter far better than we could have.
If as the Left is saying Lott is a Racist then he IS evil and we ALL should be calling for his resignation as a Senator.
I really don't give a fig what the left is saying.
If he is not a Racist and his statements were about States Rights then we should NOT be using the Left Accusations as a motor to push our agenda of getting a new Majority Leader.
You left out the primary issue - he has time and time again shown terrible judgement that harms his party. That is the main problem here.
We should be fighting the left and is race baiting, anti-States Right agenda.
Oh, and downplaying Lott's comments helps that? What a joke.
We choose our Majority Leader through a vote of our representatives, not through fain indignation and lies.
And if our Majority Leader shows he is not up to the task, we demand our GOP senators choose another one.
And IF you believe his statements were racist and you won't call for his complete resignation from the senate you are a quite adept at putting words in the other person's mouth so you can then condemn what you claim they are saying. That's really special.
Just like the democrats who said Clinton was wrong but would not impeach.
What Lott did is nowhere near as bad as what Clinton did. Lott showed very poor judgement. Clinton broke the law. Therefore, it is proper to demand sanctions that match the respective transgressions. Clinton should have been removed from office (after all, it's our only national elected office, we all have a say in that matter). Lott should resign as Majority Leader - a back-bench senator can be a dolt and do just fine, but that's really not a trait you want in your leadership, unless you want to derail your own cause - which is probably why Tommy Daschle wants Lott to stay on.
So lets see, even though the republicans will not tolerate a conservative leader, because the Liberal republicans must be appeased. It is vitally important to keep trent as leader, because he caves in to the dems just the right amount- got it
CyberCowboy is not interested in debate. He is interested in trying to silence us by branding us as hypocrites through the time-honored technique of distorting our positions, crafting false moral equivalents and putting words in our mouths. As if we would fail to recognize those techniques, with all our years of analyzing Dem propaganda.
That is not true, I simply want to make my point that we should be cleaning house outside of this circus.
You are the one using the time-honored technique of distorting my intentions to deflect a earnest concern that may force you out of the group think.
