My ears might have deceived me. Did I hear correctly on the Sean Hannity Show? Did Hackworth call Cheney a draft dodger?

John, I know that... and I am happy enough that civilians are in charge, HOWEVER, there is nothing to say they can't have military experience and a LOT that says they SHOULD. AFTER service they can be politicians.... and I might even vote for one of them. But to want to LEAD your country without showing a willingness to put your life actually on the line for your country, well, that doesn't speak well of you to me! It's more of the opportunism that BlowJob Billy showed. But with more finesse.

Must suck that no one reads you for but comic relief, huh?

Hack is a IDIOT. No,but I think he is getting senile.
I would like to see his military records.
Let's just say that he didn't fly obsolete jet fighters for a reserve or Air NG unit.
To: sneakypete
Americans are born fully vested with the rights God gave them and are not required to serve in the military to exercise those rights.
I see nothing wrong or hypocritical about this statement.
To: Tribune7
Yes. Unlikely he would have been drafted.

In this 'thorough' discussion, was the material below reviewed and adequately refuted? Yes.
But feel free to search away for the threads yourself.

I think you have conclusively established that our VP is no draft dodger.

HOWEVER, there is nothing to say they can't have military experience and a LOT that says they SHOULD.With this I agree 100%. Sorry for the delay, I had to go plow my road. Winter in Ct came early this year.

Military experience hasn't exactly imbued you with wisdom, insight or good sense, now has it? Cheney is a tremendous asset to his country when it needs his skills and experience most, and I cannot be happier that this man serves his nation now and with such distinction. Those who wish to undermine his role and character are worthless fools who cannot appreciate the high level of competence such a man has to bring for the task ahead.I am thankful it is he, and not you, making the hard choices. His is a judgement I can trust.Yours is one I can easly ignore.

You and some others have made veiled references to persons with wealthy and political ins getting *medical* passes. I specifically asked about THAT in my question to you.
To: McGruff
Oh now that IS a scream ..... Here I am seriously learning about personnalities and you post that . ROTFL !
To: wardaddy
Cheney would have been too old to be drafted for Nam in 1965. Then why were all the deferements neccessary?

chickenhawk signed up 2002-12-06. What came first, the chicken or the post?

Your entilted to your opinion Joe. But it's simply that, an opinion. I'm not too thrilled about his "more important things to do" quote if its true but other than that he gets the benefit of the doubt.

He was at least in an armored unit, and he did his basic training at Ft. Hood, and spent 6 months there before being sent to Germany, which certainly indicates he probably had an Armor MOS. Like most southern boys of his time, he was a "gun nut" before he entered service. Here's a picture of him in Germany.

That's allright, he probably believes that George Hamilton really was the sole support of his mother (stated reason for the millionaire actor's deferment, not related, of course, to his dating then-single Lynda Bird Johnson). You got something to say to me, say it. You're safe and comfy in cyber space.
To: sneakypete
Cheney was only 24 in 1965.

Clinton did nothing illegal to avoid service. Yes,he did. He had promised in writing to enlist in a reserve position CREATED ESPECIALLY FOR HIM,but just used that as a stalling tactic until he could get a student deferement.
He also traveled to Iron Curtain countries without permission at at time when it was illegal for Americans to visit there, and (according to HIM)he tried to conduct foreign policy while he was there. Another violation of federal law.

Well, if you're under 75 years old, Germany's the same as serving stateside.
At least for this exercise.

spending the majority of one's adult life as a political hack is not what I'd call patriotic Yeah, I could tell from your profile :-). And I wish you'd reconsider some of what you've said there -- there are good people in politics, and we good people not in politics need to work to keep them in politics. Someone is going to run the country, and a greater or lesser part of our lives; voting is how we deal with it!
I don't much like our choices these days, either, and I agree W's not very conservative. I wish it was practical to be a one-issue pro-life voter. I wish one party or the other came down with me on both domestic and foreign policy. Come to think of it, I wish they'd just let me run things.
I wish, too, that all the good folks who've become opt-out Libertarians would do daily devotionals for a while on some of the things Jim Rob and others have said about "service" as a voter: pick a party with a chance, one that you can agree with more than the other (okay, "lesser of two evils" I can live with -- it beats the other one) and elect them to office!
I'm grateful for your service in VietNam. I'm grateful for your service as a voter, too, until you stopped; we need you s'more.
