Stand Up and Take It Like an American In a free society, sometimes you pay a price for your beliefs.
1. The continuance of the new patriotism which is marked not by a tinny boastfulness but by an intellectually and emotionally experienced fidelity to and respect for the founding ideas, documents and assumptions which have guided us since we declared our independence from the mother country 226 years ago.

Peggy Noonan bump
It's the price an adult pays.

"The suburbs of Dallas where they busy themselves doing, among other things, Christian outreach to topless dancers is America."
Thank you Peggy. Now that I am of a certain age and have the freedom of time on my side you have indentified a new career for me. Like your former husband, I now wear the black eye patch that makes a man ever so handsome.
It's off to Dallas for me, or maybe El Paso, if there are more topless dancers in need there.

I'm a grownup. I know you pay a price for the stands you take.Bingo. And socialists want others to pay their price for them.

And socialists want others to pay their price for them. Good point (but first, they must whiiiiine, then make others pay the price). : )

Good read, and an especially good dissing of Dasshole. I suppose it takes a woman to point out the emasculation of men in our society, and that's essentially all it is. How is it that girlie-men like Tiny Tommy, who stands for nothing of substance, able to thrive in a nation where rugged individualism was the norm not so long ago? His smarmy glibness makes me want to puke, but then maybe I'm overreacting ; )

I think the idea of Heartland purity as a uniform constant is a myth. In some rural pockets across the interior of the US, welfare is as high or higher than comparable demographics in urban areas.
The blessing and the bane of urban living is that the higher concentrations of people translate into higher initiative which equals greater wealth which creates greater opportunities for more development - and more scheming, scamming and skimming.
In rural areas with greater self-reliance, the folks in the area know pretty well who's a slacker and who's a good neighbor. In urban areas, the dead weight of non-productive elements is hidden in anonymity and the impact is spread out over millions of productive members so their sloth and virtual theft is far less noticable.
Like the numbers in Las Vegas, the house (and government) never loses as long as human nature wants something for nothing. I think it is the degree of the opportunity for parasitic dependence and the sheer numbers that practice such behavior that makes the difference between rural and urban.

The Democratic Crime Syndicate really doesn't care. They are just talking points for socialists playing the "victim card", much like "It Takes a Criminal" - Hillary when Lazio invaded "her space". It is a PRE-MEDITATED tactic.

Great Noonan article. I have just one trifling observation:
But the scouts aren't denying him his right to be an atheist. They're denying him the right to be a BSA troop leader.
It's not a right to be a BSA troop leader. It is a privilege that must be earned.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that 'ol Walter said he was a TexanThat was before he could properly fit into his Napoleon jacket.

Noonan does not explain herself on what this "new patriotism" is all about...
Hi MagicGarden, welcome to the forum.
In case you didn't know it, short essays such as this generally stick to one subject, and Patriotism was not the subject of this essay. You want to go back and re-read it and see if you can discover what the subject was.

You're not over-reacting, I don't think. There is Scriputre pertaining to, in the last days countries shall be led by women (something like that). Does that not fit? We have a bunch of girlie-men, like Tiny Tommy, "leading." And you are right, what do they stand for, really, besides "nothing." Look how they whine and complain and lay blame (Daschole, Gore, Klintoon). Where do they lead? What role models do they aspire themselves to? The senators who went to Baghdad--laid blame on Bush and America instead of the dictator, Saddam Hussein, an evil man. Can any of our Rat "leaders" be said to be men of strength, conviction, or character? No. They are babies, self-centered, and selfish. Power-hungry, egotistical betrayers of our society, of this republic.

Noonan does not explain herself on what this "new patriotism" is all about, unless all you have to do is have an American outside your house and slap a "Get Bin Laden" bumper sticker on the back of your car. Must be new to Noonan as well as to FR. Welcome. Watch and learn.

a woman was complaining that while picketing against the upcoming invasion of Iraq, she was subjected to "psychological violence" (people yelling at her as they drove by.) She is willing to criminalize by calling it "violence"...I'm late to the thread, but thats liberalism in a nutshell. I imagine this thread is "passive electronic violence" and she has a constitutional right to not have us have this discussion!
