An Arizona man who received a "strange and mysterious" e-mail apologizing for the slaying of a Red Bluff cop launched investigators on the trail of an ex-Army private who was arrested four days later in New Hampshire.

Neil Wright, 50, said he had received an e-mail from "Mitch Stephens" at americanresistance@yahoo.com at about 6 p.m. Friday on his home computer in Lake Havasu City and called police an hour later.

Mickel/McCrae's screed ... reads like a classic case of incipient paranoid schizophrenia. He'll probably present an insanity defense, and it will probably succeed.

Following the *reasoning* in Mickel/McCrae's *manifesto* which you pointed out amd posted in your post #136.... I suspect it might be very interesting to compare Mickel'McCrae's provable whereabouts on the evening of 11 October 2001, on which the murder of another law enforcement official took place,in the Seattle area, also shot in the head and throat by multiple gunshots during a surprise attack, also during the hours of darkness and in which it also appears a handgun was used.

It might be a particularly interesting case in which to compare ballistic evidence recovered in that case with that from Officer Mobilio's murder, or any other weapons known to have neen in Mickel/McCrae's possession. Neil, kindly advise your Red Bluff detective contacts of this possibility.

Seattle Post Intelligencer article regarding Mickel/McCrae brought to my attention by ValerieUSA *here*.

It seems McCrae will be fighting extradition. That may offer a longer and better opportunity to check out his possible wherabouts or involvement in atrocities elsewhere.

As bizarre as it surely is, doesn't the "reasoning" in McCrae's ramble sound like the kind of thing your typical college professor's son might absorb over the years?

How about a "law-abiding and patriotic citizen who writes for the conservative Free Republic"?

Not in the R.O.T.C. department. Around the tenured liberal arts lefties, maybe.

Yeah, the basic arguments on most of the tread I read are along the lines of:

1. It was posted to many different sites, not only imc
2. It's a COINTEL conspiracy!

But it's true, they HATE FReepers most of all!

A student from The Evergreen
State College who was
charged with killing a
California police officer last
week surrendered at a New
Hampshire hotel Tuesday after
a standoff during which he told
a reporter he shot the officer
to protest police brutality.

Andrew McCrae, 23, walked out of a hotel room after several hours of
negotiations. He is charged in a fugitive warrant with killing officer David Mobilio in
Red Bluff, Calif., on Nov. 19.

Shortly before he gave up, authorities granted McCrae's request to talk to a
Concord Monitor reporter who was in the lobby. Reporter Sarah Vos said the first
thing McCrae told her in a phone conversation was, "I killed a police officer in Red
Bluff, Calif., in an effort to draw attention to police brutality."

McCrae was ordered held without bail after saying nothing during his arraignment
by video hookup from the Merrimack County Jail. He had a bandage on his head
and a blanket draped over his bare shoulders during the hearing.

Police said there had been a dispute over jail clothing, but did not explain the
bandage. Defense attorney Mark Sisti said McCrae had been injured, but gave no
details.

Online messages

Police indicated they believe McCrae also confessed to the murder on a Web site
belonging to the San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center, a site that is
dedicated in part to covering "local events that are ignored or poorly covered by
corporate media."

In one of two letters posted on the site Monday by a man identifying himself as
McCrae, the writer claims he shot and killed the officer to protest "police-state
tactics" and corporate irresponsibility.

The writer claimed he is immune from prosecution because he incorporated himself
as a protest against corporations who "murder thousands of people each year."

The writer said the name for the corporation, "Proud and Insolent Youth," was
taken from the story of Peter Pan. He said the fictional Peter "hates pirates and I
hate pirates, and corporations are nothing but a bunch of pirates."

Mobilio, 31, was shot once in the head as he refueled his cruiser. He was the first
officer ever killed in the line of duty in Red Bluff, a city of 13,500 near Sacramento.

Some 2,500 people, including California Gov. Gray Davis, attended a memorial
Tuesday afternoon.

On the Web site, the writer said he was attracted to New Hampshire because its
constitution ensures a right of revolution. Vos said McCrae repeated that in their
brief conversation.

Vos, who covers crime for the newspaper, also said McCrae wanted her to read a
copy of a "Declaration of Renewed Independence" he said he had written.

"I tell him I want to read it. He asks, 'How do I give it to you?' I say, 'You have to
come out' and basically the conversation ends there."

Authorities had told her they didn't want her to get McCrae excited because they
feared he was suicidal. They also told her not to ask questions.

"Someone else was listening in, and someone else was passing me notes," she said.

"They told me beforehand that he wanted to give me a copy (of the declaration) and
I should tell him I want to see it. The idea was I should try to get him to come out."

Agents and police officers told Vos she had done a good job.

"It feels weird, to be honest," she said. "That's not my job. My job is to report the
news."

McCrae's incorporation papers, filed in Concord on Nov. 7, list addresses in
Loudon, N.H., and Olympia.

The Loudon address was for the local agent of a company that filed the papers.

The contact phone number listed for McCrae in Olympia was not answered
Tuesday.

It sure does. I was thinking the same thing. BTW, Wittenberg University has taken down Faculty and Adminstration contact addresses on its website. Not only did Prof. Mickel duck from view, but all his colleagues and bosses did too!

As for Mickel/McCrae's insane manifesto above, he makes at least one factual howler. He confuses Goering with Goebbels.

In the Army, he was a private stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. until his discharge in 2001. That fall, McCrae enrolled in college at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash.

This fact alone will make any trial very interesting. If brainwashing is a possible defense, McCrae may have an out. McCrae would certainly not be the first, nor the second, wack-job student associated with the Evergreen State College to murder someone.

He was arrested there in April for obstructing a sidewalk, apparently at a political protest, police said.

Only in the Peoples Socialist State of Washington could one be arrested for obstructing a sidewalk. I'm not surprised.
