Robot back to Great Pyramid
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Zahi Hawas said the Robot, Pyramid Rover, will return to the Great Pyramid of Cheops after Eidul Fitr to continue the endeavours to unravel the mystery of the pyramid. The Robot will enter the Northern hole in the pyramid, as it entered the southern one earlier, said Hawas. Another door is expected to be uncovered, Hawas said, to protect the burial chambers and funeral furniture of the king. Co-studies are conducted with the U.S. side to explain the theories behind the door uncovered by the Robot last month. The two sides will also prepare for continuation of the experiment in mid-2003, he added.

Is Eidul Fitr the feast that ends Ramadan? Or is it the beginning of the Egyptian fiscal year with a new research budget? I find I'm getting an education in Muslim holidays. Does a robot have to observe the fasting rules?

I saw the show Hawas had done w/ National Geographic about using the robot to go into the southern entrance.
They got through a slab and encountered another doorway with mortared stones forming a wall blocking the entrance.
Wonder if that is what he is talking about. 'Pod

I believe they will find - nothing. Just another barrier with more shaft behind it. No true chamber, furniture or anything else. Just my opinion.
From what I can see as a "layman" the actual builders of the Great Pyramid of Cheops have not been confirmed, nor when it was actually built - not to mention how it was constructed and actually why. Way more questions than answers and this robot proble won't uncover anything of importance IMO.

Naturally, I also thought this was going to be an Al Gore thread.
And my first thought was "I hope they seal the damned robot up good this time"...

to protect the burial chambers and funeral furniture of the king. One of the strange mysteries of the Great pyramid, (besides it being so much larger than the others), is that it had virtualy no markings inside, and it had NO furniture of any kind. Even the box in the "kings chamber" is by no means the size or shape of a coffin. There is no more indication that it is a kings burial chamber than it is a giant clock.
A mystery is never solved by a man who has decided the answers before he examines the question.

Yes it is.
