Looks like we have some liberal thinkers here. Only liberals can add two and two and come up with six.

Send Lowes a copy of "Philadelphia".

My email.
Your smoking-Nazi policy sucks. I've bought hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars of products from you, check your database with the name attached if you think I'm blowing "smoke".
From now on I'll be buying products for my business and home from Home Depot, which is right down the block from you in Naples Florida anyway.

Fat people cost allot more than smokers in both health care and overall space taken. Many smokers already pay the higher premium themselves, unless the company covers the entire cost it has no bearing on the employer. Beside fat people bother me when I am eating.
I propose a 200% tax on all men's pants larger than 31" waist and women's pants larger than size 8.

I propose a 200% tax on all men's pants larger than 31" waist and women's pants larger than size 8. Wait a second - I'm 5'10" and weigh 120 pounds, yet to get a pair of jeans to fit me properly I have to get 32" waist (I only buy men's jeans, as they fit better than women's). And because of my height I can not wear a size 8 in woman's' pants - I need at least a 10.
But all kidding aside - I understand your point and if these anti-smokers don't watch their backs - this is exactly where they are leading the nanny statists. Just wait til you start hearing the porkers squealing!!!!

Thank Heavens I know from reading this and other threads that the fact my uncle (the 2nd one who has had to do so) has to carry around an oxygen cannister for his emphysema has nothing to do with his years of smoking!

Since I stopped smoking, I really don't care that its being banned in certain places, I mean, I just don't give damn, its no issue to me anymore.
To: SheLion
Looks like it is back to Home Depot for me.
By the way, Delaware has banned smoking in any public area - bars, restaurants, etc.. It just took effect. One local popular restaurant chain, with several locations in Maryland and one in Delaware has announced that it will close the Delaware location and move it to Maryland.

Would you care to post a link to these statistics. I don't want to call you a liar but I think you're either mistaken or someone has fed you a line of anti-ism. Studies that I have seen actually point to the fact that smokers take no more sick days, take no more time off, and have no more 'diseases' than nonsmokers, at least until later in life. I guess I should have put "statistics" in quotes or ended in a /sarcasm off. All the PC crapp is based on "statistics." Nobody has fed me a line. I smoke. I try to be courteous with my smoking, realizing everyone doesn't. However, going out in public, and hiring the public, means you deal with the public. Some of them smoke. If you don't want to deal with that, stay home or hire drones.

One of the worst things that's happened in this War on Smokers is the apparent inability to compromise, to work out a problem, to stop short of zero tolerance in an effort to accommodate everyone. You may be on to something here. As soon as the smokers can get some bogus scientific studies to indicate a genetic propensity to smoking (like homosexuality, etc.) then they can become a "protected class" and the Fed Gov. will force employers to accomodate them.

I agree with you, Bustard! Let the air-defiling, nasty-residue- producing, drug aficionados shop elsewhere. Lowes didn't introduce a no gum/no patches policy.

I think Home Depot banned smoking a long time ago. They also have the smoking cessation classes.
Lowes is simply doing what has worked for many other big companies by saving money anywhere it can. It is simply profitable to do so. Smoking isn't really a need, but smokers want to smoke at work. So smoking (which is a want, not a need) creates too many extra inconveniences for employers. Creating special privledges for smokers is too much added expense. Lower insurance premiums for fire and life, lower ventilation costs, increased productivity from employees, lower work loss days, lower maintenance and repair costs, and higher productivity when smoking is prohibited in the workplace, plus they're avoiding frivolous lawsuits from non smoking employees which will result in settlements to avoid going to court and on and on and on.
I don't know many companies that allow smoking anymore.
To: SheLion
Lowes is Mormon owned and that particular group has issues with smokes. They do however have no problem allowing, enabling and facilitating obesity which leads to so many more health disasters. No offense guys but I had friends who ran singles dances and the menu left a lot to be desired.

They do however have no problem allowing, enabling and facilitating obesity which leads to so many more health disasters. Oh! But ONE guy said that LOWE'S doesn't HIRE obese people. LOL!
I knew that was wrong, since one out of 10 people in the US are obese. THANKS, CARepubGal. I hope that poster reads this. hehe!

Sorry PPM.
I thought there might have been a 'sarcasm' tag there but wasn't sure.

Well, it's done! NO SMOKING
at Lowe's? NO! Just NO SMOKING for Lowe's employee's! No smoking for Lowe's employees on Lowe's property by a Lowe's employee at at time! Even if you aren't on the clock! Even if they are on a day off! Disciplinary action will be taken!
Most of the post's here have it right, "It's the money stupid"!
Clear and simple, Lowe's dosen't care what their "Valued" employees' think, just get in lock step or you're a goner!
