How The United States Ended. Not With A Bang, Not With A Whimper, But With A Subpoena .

How the United States Ended. Not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with the suffocation of the American Ideal under the combined weight of rampant racism and class action litigation.

In the motion picture “Mosquito Coast” tragic protagonist Harrison Ford understands the way to instant popularity. He seduces Central American natives with the shouted promise of “Free Money – Free Money!” In the end, he is killed and his utopian community dies with him. What Ford accomplished in 118 minutes within a darkened theater, lawyers are trying to accomplish using the courts and television as their medium. In reality, it will take longer than 2 hours to destroy the dream of 231 years, but in the end, America may well meet Ford’s fate.

Free money has an old and powerful appeal. Something-for-nothing has always appealed to the masses. The traditional chain letters, Las Vegas casinos and even state lotteries operate on that pernicious premise; don’t work for your money, just find someone to give it to you for free. Now that premise has found a new set of champions in the form of the class-action lawyers.

The purported premise of class-actions lawsuits is noble. When a broad range of victims are injured by a similar act, all the supposed victims sue in one large case. The concept is to prevent thousands of little suits all around the country, all over the same issue.

The problem, as it often is when lawyers are involved, is that the original purpose disappears in the over-inflated incomes of the class-action lawyers. In many cases, issues that never should have taken the courts time earn millions of dollars for the lawyers. I recently received notice that I am a member of a class of plaintiffs because I stayed in a certain chain of hotels three summers ago. What was my piece of the pie because somehow I might have been overcharged for telephone service? A ten-dollar credit the next time I stay in one of the chain’s hotels. (If I can’t negotiate a ten or even twenty-dollar reduction off a hotel’s posted room rate, I shouldn’t be allowed to cross the street without holding Mother’s hand, travel alone… but I digress.) The bottom line is that I get a supposed ten dollar saving, the lawyers make millions, in cash.

The class-action Tobacco Settlement is another infamous example. It was supposed to pay for health care for people injured by smoking. In reality, billions of dollars went to lawyers while the rest went to politicians’ pet projects. It even paid for a Tobacco Museum in North Carolina. That’s like putting a convicted hooker out on work release in a port city when the Navy docks after six months at sea!

And how will the hotel chain pay off the lawyers scam settlement? By raising your room rate the next time you travel, of course!

By itself, these “sue for anything” class-action lawsuits are a disincentive to be successful in business. Build a business; make a profit; here come the lawyers looking for their unearned share. But the latest trend combines these lawsuits with another destructive trend. The combined result is far worse than the individual pieces.

The newest case is a perfect example. Brought in New York City, it involves a group of single Black mothers suing McDonalds because their kids are fat. It doesn’t matter that the mother interviewed on television; her weight is probably a few pounds the other side of 250. It doesn’t matter that she was the one that plopped him down in front of the TV set that aired the McDonalds ads; that she took him to McDonalds, that after all the nutrition stories seen on the news, she was one who bought him the Big Macs, she was the one who paid for them, she was the one who did not require him to get exercise. It doesn’t matter that he could have had home cooked meals and probably did eat in a hundred other places than McDonalds. What matters is that McDonalds is an American success story. It has money and this welfare mother wants some of McDonalds money for free. Free Money! Hire a lawyer. Get some Free Money!

The concept of Free Money is also seen in the latest cry for Black Reparations. A group of Black lawyers, Johnny Cochran among them, demands that the U.S. Government give every Black man, woman and child in this country a few hundred thousand dollars. The reason; their ancestors were slaves.

It matters not to them that there are no children of children of children of children of slaves alive in this country today. It matters not that we are seven generations past slavery, almost 40 years past the Civil Rights act of 1964. Its been decades of Affirmative Action programs that set aside certain contracts, benefits and college admissions for Blacks, even if they did not qualify. It matters not that for every act of discrimination fostered on Blacks by Whites today, Blacks commit violent crimes on one another a hundred time over. Americans Blacks have learned the system well. Make enough noise…. get some Free Money!

The final piece of the fatal flaw in our system is, believe it or not, the Jury System. By bringing these class action suits ,such as the attempted extortion against McDonalds, in the inner city courts, lawyers know they can play the race card, and the rest of America pays up!

Something must be done to prevent these runaway class-action suits. Something must also be done to restore the concept of personal responsibility to America and especially American parents. If we don’t, if American workers just say too much is too much, we will lose that fragile bond that keeps this country together.

Remember the essay written in post-Nazi Germany about the lack of protests by German citizens against the death camps?

“First they came to take the Gypsies, and of course I didn’t protest because everyone knows the Gypsies all crooks and swindlers.

Then they came to take the homosexuals, and of course I didn’t protest because everyone knows the homosexuals are all deviates.

Then they came to take the Jews, and of course I didn’t protest because everyone knows the Jews are all thieves and Communists.”

It goes on for a few more verses, then ends:

“Then they came to take me, and no one protested, because there was no one left to protest.

When the lawyers and the Free Money minorities finally finish, will there be anyone left to pay the bill?

The last bit about the 'First they came for the...' is a corruption of the original text. The order is 'first they came for the communists', then 'socialists, trade unionists, then Jews' (this is what in fact did happen historically).

Lawsuit claims McDonald's burgers and fries are making kids fat

NEW YORK (AP) --Are Big Macs hazardous to children's health?

Lawyers have filed a class-action lawsuit against McDonald's on behalf of New York children who have suffered health problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

In federal court in Manhattan on Wednesday, a lawyer alleged that the fast-food chain has created a national epidemic of obese children. Samuel Hirsch argued that the high fat, sugar and cholesterol content of McDonald's food is "a very insipid, toxic kind of thing" when ingested regularly by young kids.

The plaintiffs include a Bronx teen who ate every meal at McDonald's for three years while living in a homeless shelter. Another is a 13-year-old boy from Staten Island who says he ate at McDonald's food three to four times a week and is now 5-foot-4 and 278 pounds.

McDonald's lawyer Brad Lerman insisted the lawsuit was a frivolous attempt to cash in on the Golden Arches, "the kind of lawsuit that shouldn't be in court."

"People don't go to sleep thin and wake up obese," Lerman said. "The understanding and comprehension of what hamburgers and french fries do has been with us for a long, long time."

McDonald's has asked Judge Robert Sweet to dismiss the case, arguing those who filed the claims cannot show their health woes were caused by Big Macs and insisting the company has never misled customers about its food. The judge did not immediately rule on the request.

My kids are thin, I think I am going to sue the food industry for not putting enough calories in food.

We need reform immediately and....any loser in one of these pathetic lawsuits should be forced to pay all expenses involved plus penalties.

I wonder if we can sue these people and the lawyers who file these suits for raising the prices for the rest of us?

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out--

because I was not a communist;

Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out--

because I was not a socialist;

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out--

because I was not a trade unionist;

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--

because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for me--

and there was no one left to speak out for me.
