[history]
James Jeffords surely must be the loneliest senator on Capitol Hill. Just six months after the Republican leadership pulled out all the stops to get the Vermonter re-elected in 2000

According to a senior Senate leadership source, the election results were barely in before Mr. Jeffords' office put out feelers to his former party's leaders. The message? That the Vermonter would be happy to caucus with the GOP so long as he retained his committee chairmanship. Republican leaders rightly rolled their eyes. This guy gives a new meaning to the word prick.

Hahahaha, Jeffords thought that the tide in American was going to the left so he went with it at the expense of Republicans. After the landslide Republican victories of a few days ago the other side of the fence isn't so green for Mr. Jeffords. And I love it.

To show how much respect I've lost for Lott and the Senate Republicans, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they granted him his wish.

As much as I respect the Washington Times, I find this hard to believe. If he was thinking he'd worm his way back over to the GOP side of the aisle, he wouldn't have voted against Homeland Security...which he did today.

The worst thing about his switch is that it was the first time since the Whig party the seat was not in the hands of the GOP. That Seat was Republican since the 1850'S

Thank you!

Maybe he voted against it after they told him to get lost. Then again, he probably thought they would take him back, no matter what had happened. He seems to be very full of himself.

If the Senate had a seat reserved for the "differently-abled", Jeffords would be in it.
Love your #3. Very funny.

And now the Democrats know about this pathetic old scumbag's treachery.
I'd say he's toast.

Un-efing-believable! I hope they kick him off of that committee, since he sold his soul to chair it. For one man to reverse the result of an election, he deserves retaliation for being so vicious and vindictive. They should move his office to the broom closet and forbid him to sit on any committee. The creep.

Who is going to give this pariah a Committee assignment?
The Republicans? They have no reason to give Jim Jeffords a damned thing.
The Democrats? I suspect that in the minority, they will look to protecting their own.
I think Jim Jeffords is going to be the lonliest man in Washington this side of the Iraqi Embassy.

At 68, senile Jumpin' Jimmy should just hang it up, seek treatment for his Alzhiemers, and let Dr. Dean pick a replacement.
To: John Valentine
I think you are absolutely right. The democrats are losing one seat on each committee, they won't allow one of their own to go without a seat just so Jeffords can have one. If we take LA on the 7th, they'll be losing TWO seats on each committee. :o)
