The best response would be to put him on a committee completely unrelated to anything of consequence in Vermont. Neuter him politically in his home state. The Committee on Indian Affairs or Joint Committee on Printing would be good places for him to reflect on his decision.

Hey, I think everyone here is very short sighted. Ol' Jim might have had a REAL change of heart, and everyone deserves a second chance. He might even be an honest Senator with real integrity. We need more of those kinda of guys on our side. Really!

Yep, Lott and the Republicans should tell Jim to climb on board. As long as he RESIGNS FIRST and STANDS FOR RE-ELECTION so that the voters of Vermont can have a say, he can come back.

There's nothing more despicable than messing with the results of an election. The voter fraud, stolen elections, and similar actions by the Democrat strike at the heart of our democracy. If the ballot is rendered meaningless by actions in Minn, NJ, Vermont, and Missouri (re: Ashcrofts stolen election in 2000), what recourse do voters have?
