No doubt in my mind that if the Ruskies see this as any sort of threat, they'll blow it sky high.... There is probably a Russian submarine shadowing the trawler, just in case.......

If you wouldn't do this to a dog, why would you do it to a fish??

Cuz the dog comes when I call him!!

Eat fish?? Have you talked to any bears lately about your absurdity.

Far East pirates seize Russian trawler
The Sea of Japan has rich fishing grounds
Unidentified gunmen have seized a Russian trawler in the Sea of Japan off the country's Pacific coast, Russian officials say.

The attackers boarded the ship - identified as the Tulun - from a vessel sailing under Cambodian flag, Russian maritime officials were quoted as saying.

South Korean and Japanese coast guards alerted the officials about the incident in the Sea of Japan, about 400 nautical miles (740 kilometres) south of the Russian port of Vladivostok.

There was no indication of who could be behind the attack.

The officials said the trawler was carrying 23 crew members.

A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Alexander Yakovenko, told Russian television that the ministry had instructed its embassies in Tokyo, Seoul and other countries to "secure all available information from authorities".

The ship reportedly used by the attackers, the Korf, is listed in the Lloyd's shipping register as a Russian vessel.

According to the Interfax news agency, the Tulun is much bigger and is registered in the port of Kholmsk on the Russian island of Sakhalin.

The Russian border guards service said it was trying to pinpoint the vessel's exact location, as its satellite navigation had been switched off.

Fish poaching and piracy are reported to be common in the Sea of Japan.

""If you want to become an Islamic radical and have yourself circumcised, I invite you to come to Moscow," Putin said."

I saw a story the other day that said this was a mistranslation and that it should have been castrated. Frankly, that makes more sense to me.

On the other, how is it possible anatomically to deflower a mermaid? Anybody?

Depends on the type.

Type A: Top half is a girl. No chance.

Type B: Bottom half is a girl. Bingo!

"Given than the terrorists seized a Russian trawler, the only logical outcome is more dead terrorists."

More dead civilians than terrorists.

No, they hope to cause an environmental catastrophe by dumping its cargo into the ocean.

So they plan in ticking off the eviro whacko's huh??

You have much to learn about environmentalism. Black and brown people, you see, cannot harm the environment. Only white Europeans, and especially capitalistic Americans, can harm the environment. Mugabe's thugs in Zimbabwe, for instance, have been gratuitously cutting down or burning trees and shooting rhinos, elephants and other species en masse in the country's game preserves. Not one peep about this from the environs. If they ever are forced to notice it, it will be blamed on the lingering evils of (white European) "colonialism" or some such.

Exactly. And they'll either have or get a UN "resolution" to justify their heineous activities and prove it isn't "their" fault.

" Wonder what a mile long net could do to sub traffic if it was dropped in the right area?"

British trawlers have been dragged under by subs snagging the nets.

These are probably poor fishmen forced by the Russian Maffia to work for next to nothing. They have seized the boat to go home and get away from the Russian Maffia.

Do you remember when Soviet / Russian trawlers were not trawlers at all ? Perhaps there are some goodies on that craft ..

I saw soviet "trawlers" do better than 20 knots while trailing my ship in the med (late '70s-early '80s).

"Goodies". Maybe. But I can't really see why Cambodian thugs would be interested in obsolete com gear. You can't eat it, it probably has no resale value. And nowadays it probably really is an honest fishing trawler.

I have no idea why this piracy happened.

Vladivostok is a major Pacific port. If they have a really nasty "boom-boom" with them, things could get hairy.

The Russians ain't about to let a boat that big with suspect crew and cargo get anywhere near their Naval base. IF the crew and pirates aboard that trawler are lucky, they will have a long swim home. And that's about the best they can hope for.
