"and it will all be basically over by Christmas"

Saddam's hatred for the jews very well might cause him to fire his remaining scuds with bio/chem warheads at Israel, in which case, Baghdad may end up glowing like a Christmas tree.

If this is true, and it was leaked for real, our man Bush is NOT going to be happy. I pity the poor soul who did this.

Then there will be a bunch of speeches in the U.N., and we'll go round and round again.

No need to wait for speeches to be delivered this time, and no further UN initiative is required. The Security Council can meet, they will have the opportunity. They can meet or not. After that, it doesn't matter if someone attempts a filibuster.

Can someone please tell the media to stop taking photos that make me look like I have a halo effect around my head? I'm not an apostle in a renaissance painting.

I don't see anything here that is perticularly surprising. It goes without saying that we will attack with our first objective being securing air superiority, followed by cutting off the command and control of the enemy. After that we can pick them apart in anyway we see fit.

If someone leaked this thinking they were giving the NYT the "scoop" then my only hope is that the NYT paid the person hansomly for this information.

"if I'm in a bar and two guys are sitting at the end of the bar talking about how they're going to beat the crap out of me as soon as they finish their beers, people might understand if I hit them with a chair first.."

Er, wouldn't it be more peaceful and easier for you to send them a few rounds while you slipped out the back, Jack?

For what it's worth, last Oct. right before they started to attack Afganistan, we saw a bunch of military planes flying high above us heading in the same direction. Our whole town noticed.

Yesterday, we saw lots of them going in the same direction, and there were more than we saw those couple of days last Oct. At times there were 3 in the sky at the same time. Before I get flamed for LLSS, it can't be too secret when a whole town sees them and is talking about them. Lots of the guys here know about planes. They could be going anywhere in that part of the world, but yesterday there was a s***load of them flying towards the east. We live in a highly remote area.

Go ahead ... make my day.

If the two guys at the other end of the bar had you as badly outgunned as we do Iraq, then it could be to their advantage to turn the screws tighter real slow and public like. It both makes it seem more fair in the eyes of the bystanders (not like you didn't have all kinds of notice) and it increases the chance you will do something real stupid, making it all the easier for those two guys.

Surprise is nice; inevitibility is nicer.

And if you continue to sit there, trying to walk the fine line between defiance and compliance, then those two guys should go ahead and do exactly what they said they would, when they said they would, as they said they would. No mercy, no hesitation, no apology.

Then next time, I'll bet the remaining denizens of the bar will pay real close attention when those two guys make a point of something.

This is from the article you posted

"Mr. Bush, speaking at a news conference on Thursday, did not discuss the secret process for planning a possible war.

Maybe it's me but I found that too funny.

Do you think the Iraqi government might fail to notice a front-page article in the NY Times?

Ah yes...a little more psychological warfare music playing in the background while Saddam reads over that agreement.

Agreed. But could we also pipe into Radio Bagdad the Mash Movie theme, "Suicide Is Painless" just for 'effect'?

If this is a "secret plan" . . .

. . . then we shout it from the rooftops, apparently.

Isn't this the 3rd time this story ran over the last 3-4 months?
If we really have a leak who broadcasts our intentions on war plans let's plug it immediately. Had we had our present media in World war 2, we would all be speaking German now and not by choice either.
