Mondale says: "We're going to tax their ass off"

Mondale Quote from DemocRAT Convention:

"Dan Rostenkowski, standing next to the candidate in front of the cameras and the cheering crowd at the convention after the fateful speech, whispered to Mondale, "You've got a lot of balls, pal." According to Rostenkowski, Mondale whispered back, "Look at 'em, we're going to tax their ass off."

Democrats suck...but why did Coleman do what they said when they told him not to camapign until after they had their memorial/rally/beerfest/liberallovein and kicked off Walter "He won't tell you, I just did" Mondale's power grab?

Republicans need to take off the kid gloves. The Democrats win by cheating; counteracting that takes some hardball, and so appearing "sensitive" cannot be the pre-eminent consideration.

And now Mondale is older than Reagan who Mondale thought was too old to serve.

And Reagan was only running for a 4 year term, while Mondale is running for a 6 year term.

Sent the message. Sen. Bill Frist said on T.V. tonight that Coleman's phone lines were jammed, and his computer had crashed because of all the people calling and e-mailing in to donate money and offer support. I just added to the problem.

Wanna laugh at me Mo? In 1984, I was out walking the streets knocking on doors for Mondale! When people would answer their doors, and I would hand them his stupid campaign fliers they would laugh at me for being stupid enough to do this! Everyone knew he was going to lose, expect me, obviously! LOL What an idiot I was back then!
I feel even more stupid now after reading this! The neighbors were right! ROTFL!

Not true, in 1986 the tax rates were reduced from 50% to 28%.
cap gains tax rates were increased at the insistence of Democrats, but the overall package was 'revenue neutral'.

"Let's tell the truth. Mr. Reagan will raise taxes, and so will I. He won't tell you. I just did." --- Walter Mondale in 1984 presidential campaign
>>>And Reagan did just that in 1986. It was the largest tax increase in the history of the country until BJ Clinton surpassed it.

That's not true.

President Reagan secured passage through Congress, of the 1986 Tax Reform Act. This was historical tax reform legislation. It's biggest accomplishment was to further lower the top marginal income tax rate, from 50% to 28%. This gave American's a two tier income tax rate structure, of 15% and 28%. It benefited high and low income individuals and many corporations who didn't invest in long term equipment purchases.

President Reagan secured passage through Congress, of the 1986 Tax Reform Act.
This was historical tax reform legislation.

And raised my Federal Taxation rate from zero percent to (IIRC) 15% while living on
macaroni and cheese as a graduate student.

Now, I'm not whining...but for decades, grad students had pretty much been given
a break on Fed. taxes during this portion of their lives.
And overnight, at one fell swoop, it was changed.
No phase-in, no gradual adjustment...just kiss about $1,000 of a yearly $12,000 salary
good-by...and you notice it.
I suspect that more than a few of my fellow grad students may have been less
than honest in adjusting to this new reality, and might have interpreted the new changes
to their favor.

I really didn't blame Ronald Reagan for it.
But I do guarantee you that I had some bitter chuckles as the authors of the legislation,
Senators Bob Packwood and Dan Rostenkowski made their exits from the Senate chambers.
(Packwood on questionable grounds, Rosti for being clearly corrupt)

It will be interesting to see if the good people of Minnesota choose to continue to sell America down the Socialist River by voting for former Vice President Mondale.
