Mondale says: "We're going to tax their ass off"

Mondale Quote from DemocRAT Convention:

"Dan Rostenkowski, standing next to the candidate in front of the cameras and the cheering crowd at the convention after the fateful speech, whispered to Mondale, "You've got a lot of balls, pal." According to Rostenkowski, Mondale whispered back, "Look at 'em, we're going to tax their ass off."

Reagan didn't do it. Congress did. The people elected Reagan for president but they filled up the Congress with Mondale clones.

There are negative ads and positive ads.

Negative ads cause people to not vote for some one. For example the Torch Corruption ads caused demorats to decide not to vote for the Torch. Negative ads drive people into the undecided column. People go undecided from a negative ad tend not to vote at all.

Postive ads cause people to vote for you. The best ads get the base excited to vote and draw independents to your candidate.

Last night in a two hour televison spectacular aranged by McAuliffe and Co the democrats did a 2 hour negative ad whose negative object was Democrats. What they did in terrible taste was drive democrats not to vote for Mondale. By the same token what they did was drive Republicans and independents to vote for Coleman.

Believe me, the Republicans could not buy this kind of adverstising. And on top of that most people think the Repubicans deserve equal time.

I am sure the polls showed that a "win one for the gipper" evening could make mondale a huge winner.

But you do "win one for the gipper" with a lumb in your throat and tears in your eyes. You don't demand that your opponent not politicise Wellstones death and then brazenly politicise Wellstones death.

I kept thinking that as Ventura walked out that Mondale would get up and follow him and apologize. If Mondale had apologized to Ventura and then today apologized go Trent Lott and all americans, he would be out of the woods.

But Mondale has said nothing. It is amazing to me that he has not.

It was like someone said back in 1984, there may be a dumber Democrat than Mondale..... There must be. I have just never met him.

I don't think Mondale is blowing his nose without party approval this week. It was part of the deal.

And Reagan, God bless his patriotic heart, even now, with strength and brilliance being drained by the battle against old age and Alzheimers, could still better serve America in the job that Mondale is hoping will be handed to him on a silver platter.

If the Democrats really loved America enough to want real leaders in the Senate, they would all be doing everything in their power to get the Republican candidates for the Senate in Minnisota and New Jersey, elected, instead of the two replacement cadavers running on the democrat ticket, that are too old and slow to lead, follow or even get out of the way-assuming either knew could comprehend where out of the way is.

Come on Democrats! Can't you just once put serlfishness and partisanism aside and support the Republican candidates for the sake of the country?

We're regressing, folks. Jimmy Carter is awarded the Nobel Prize for handing the Panama Canel over to commies. And, now his VP is resurrected as Senator of Minnesota. The Cold War is NOT over.

Well, I dispute whether the 1986 "tax increase" was, in fact, the largest until Clinton. But, what isn't in dispute is that Reagan had to sign the legislation that Congress passed to increase taxes. You can't blame Congress and not also blame Reagan ... assuming, of course, that Congress didn't override a Reagan veto for such an increase.

Don't forget that also in 1984, Lyndon LaRouche got a 30 minute paid ad in primetime on CBS just before the election and called Mondale/Ferraro, "that Neo-Nazi and his slum-lord running mate"!

Awww, the good ol' days of just 1984!!!

And Reagan did just that in 1986. It was the largest tax increase in the history of the country until BJ Clinton surpassed it.

Not totally correct....it was an increase in the Social Security tax. But Reagan also won indexing and an increase in the cut off of taxable wages for Social Security and Medicare that stayed indexed.

In 1993, Clinton got the cap on Medicare removed so all wages applied. Also, Clinton took away the pre-tax deduction of 401K for Soc Sec and Medicare.

So I don't think this is the same and clearly not the "largest tax increase" as of 1986. That was the liberal spin. Unfortunately, that same tax act changed real estate losses and devalued the market causing the real reason for the S&L crisis.
