If dissent is squashed here, we will dissent in other ways that they can't control, and we will also note what we are especially ticked off about in regards to FR. I should also note something else too. The original piece I wrote came after I was reading this page and there were a number of people here saying that something should happen to the anti-war protestors that day. OPP especially goes after anyone who even tries or suggests that. Now this was just after Sept. 11, and we had already had a few incidents, so this was a valid threat to us. I noted in that article however, that in the end everything went back to the usual verbal sniping we always engage in. Things have calmed down a bit. We can't ignore what we keep seeing posted here, and we will note it (I have to write something on the sniper case, and I think there will be some quotes from posters in that). If we keep that dialouge going not just with me but with everyone who has a difference of opinion (indymedia does it), We will all feel a lot better. It's not like I am saying endure bad language or endure personal attacks (although public figures are fair game, as far as I am concerned). I can definitely understand if that is grounds for banning. But give people a chance to talk about things. People make themselves part of the problem if they don't.

Translation: If you don't do what I want, I'll be really noisy on my website.

Response: Honey, nowadays everyone has a website and a cellphone. What you say you want is for us to make you happy by turning this into a discussion group between conservatives and others. Well, it's a free republic, Muddy's free to play with you if he wants. But personally I could care *less* if you got banned and got all huffy and, as you say, just tried to make us miserable by posting things on your little ole' website. Have a ball. We're supposed to take that kind of petulant threat seriously? I pretty much *insist* you spend a lot of time bothering yourself about us, for all I care.

Oh, and you keep saying "we" like OPP is this huge group of people, not just you and a computer and a rennovated basement room. You're a total fake, in my opinion, and the only reason you're not already banned as a disruptor is because you're not yet disrupting -- you're just threatening to if we don't play the way you like. Free Republic is not for the purpose you envision: it is not a discussion group between liberals and conservatives. And as for telling Muddy that you're just a libertarian, your website has friendly links to "progressive groups" and states that one of your jobs is to monitor the "right wing." Your neutrality language is, once again, lies. We can read, we can read, we can read.

"This ends our conversations"

LOL -- so you keep promising me. You can't even tell the truth about that. ;)

Take care and don't have too much fun here. You might begin to notice we're not racist.

"you STILL did not go after the two posters that were in the article"

They were completely shouted down at this site -- by the time I saw that thread, they were totally overwhelmed by Freepers disagreeing. Indeed there was a whole vanity thread making the point that we welcome joining hands with Iraqi dissidents and what a good thing it is.

Your article indicates that Freepers are racists. It doesn't -- and you now still don't -- acknowledge that these posters *were* gone after.

We also "out" liars.

You may have noticed.

The statistics are:

In his brief but ignoble cyberlife on Free Republic, Mr. Jenkins has posted:

16 lying messages to me
8 deceptively genuine-sounding messages to Mudboy Slim

Smaller number to Sauropod, stand watie, and Astroy Boy.

I guess it's fair to say Mudboy Slim's being slighted and I should let him have a turn. :)!!

"You were one of the people that I rapped with the longest."

Yep...and I recall, there was even a half-hearted half-hug involved as we departed company.

"We were talking about how you was a libertarian [thank you for using the little "l"] which put us in the same league since libertarians and anarchists are pretty much the same thing. And I know...we need to talk about that."

LOL...yes we do!! I never said libertarianism and Anarchy were analogous, you did. But we'll review that at a later date.

"BUT AT LEAST WE CAN! See, this is what FreeTheHostages can't seem to understand. They want to pick something out of what I said or wrote, ignore others and twist it into whatever they want it to be. It's childish, really."

So are some of yer tactics, and I'm sure folks can call me "childish" fer some of the things I do, but please don't bring me into yer ongoing dispute with FTH, who just happens to be a new FRiend of mine and was even nice enuff to send me a copy of CSPAN's coverage of the event. Have you seen it yet? You and me are right there together in one scene and I believe Leadpenny and you are exchanging harsh words...LOL!! BTW...leadpenny is no racist, so please don't muddy the waters with such unfounded allegations.

"Fact is, all I want FR to do is just keep the lines open. They have to stop being so quick on the "banned" button. I can understand trying to keep a cordial thing going, but one banned person I know was a conservative who posted a piece from indymedia, and even said it was foul to him. He was immediately branded an anarchist and bounced. That practice is the main reason why OPP has gone after FR."

Well, it looks like yer gettin' yer wish then...and I have no idea what indymedia is, so I reckon we'll talk about it another time. You are not the first to complain about the banning--actually, it's a suspension process and a nice FReepMail to "Jim Robinson" explaining yer situation often reactivates one's FReeper Rights rather promptly. And what is OPP, may I ask?

"If dissent is squashed here, we will dissent in other ways that they can't control, and we will also note what we are especially ticked off about in regards to FR."

Was Saturday an examplwe of said dissent? Y'all should be able to do better than that, I reckon.

"I should also note something else too. But give people a chance to talk about things. People make themselves part of the problem if they don't."

This line of communication remains open, my self-described Anarchist FRiend...even if you get banned fer doing something elswhere, usually you still have access to FReepMail, so I don't expect that to change.

Gotta hit Happy Hour, folks!! Hasta luego, mis amigos...MUD

Howdy, MJ...so you said you've been to DU.com. Which of these characterizations of FReepers do you tend to agree with?

What is a "freeper"?
Sorry, I am relatively new here and have seen the word "freeper" several times. Just exactly what is a "freeper"?"

10. Puke version my ass!! You haven't read thier dogdung have you? If you had you never would say they're like DU. They're flaming puke bombthrowing big money nutcases. If they're a version of this site then we're just different kinds of nutcases. Go back and try again."

23. As far as their position on the respective ends of the political spectrum, I'd say FR and DU both fall on the hard-core ideology side of things. While DU'ers tend to be more gracious in their discourse and will enter into a civilized debate, from what I've seen they hold anyone even slightly right of center in as much contempt as FR'ers hold those on the left. As a moderate, I know I disagree with the regulars here as much as I do with the regulars on FR. The difference is I don't get majorly flamed for disagreeing with the majority on this site whereas I will get reamed on FR and reported to the moderator for saying things they don't like."

31. Free Republic is DUs Evil Twin Sister.
I've never hung out there much but I have read some of their threads. They are just as opinionated as DUers and just as heavily moderated. They have their conspiracy theories re the Democrats/liberals just like DU has consipiracy theories re the Republicans/conservatives. So I sort of see Democratic Underground and Free Republic as two sides of the same political coin."

Heh heh heh...quite a range of opinions y'all got over there, my self-described Anarchist FRiend.

So which of those folks do you tend to agree with on this issue of FReepers? I mean, what sort of preconceptions are you coming into this discussion with?

"I was not coming there really to heckle anyone, but I lost it when Kristinn went on that stifling free speech routine. Now remember my perspective on the whole banning thing. That was part of the reason why I blew up. Another reason was because I always hear that argument when someone is trying to get out of a dispute they don't want to be in. That is not excluive to any side, and my position is that I do not say the things I do because I have freedom of speech. Freedom of speech allows me to. I say what I do because it is something I feel needs to be said. Fact is there was no freedom of speech being violated. If folks didn't like what I had to say, tough. You can't make me go away because of it."

Sorry dude, but I musta missed yer "blow-up"...was that before I got there? As for kristinn's "FReedom of Speech routine", as you call it, I just rewatched it on CSPAN and it seems like he's just explaining the Protest Permit Process, wherein those promoting diametrically-opposed opinions are not allowed to disrupt the activities of those who permitted the site in question. He didn't get all hyperbolic or full of hisself, just spoke the facts. To my recollection, you had no offensive placard, so were you hollerin' stuff or what?

"Man, 'tis not a wise thing to approach me with a race-spike remark like "are you a sniper". Even if he was not a racist, it didn't exactly look good."

Hence, my admonishment of whoever it was who made whatever comment it was that I deemed racist. Racist innuendo is one of the worst conversation-enders I can imagine. However, around here, the Sniper wasn't "black" as much as he was a "Leftist" or a "Muslim fanatic". Since we had folks who looked a lot more Muslim than you at the rally, I suspect lp figgered you fer a sniper due to yer Leftism, not the color of yer skin. But lp's good people...really.

"Indymedia is FR for leftists."

I've heard that said by DU.commers, SmirkingChimpsters, and now this...I've lurked on the other two briefly in the past, but have yet to venture onto indymedia. Do you have a link to a thread you are particularly proud of?

"Okay, enjoy yer happy hour!"

I did...me and jla hooked up with EX-RNC Chairman Jim Gilmore and his lovely wife, Roxanne, as well as my congressman, Eric Cantor and we tried to convince both of them--in separate conversations, of course--to run fer RINO Jawn Warner's Senate seat in 2008, so that RINO Jawn could run fer VA Governor before retirng to become an Elder Statesman...LOL!! It was a HOOt!!

FReegards and have a nice day...I'm yard-working it most of the day, but will be checking into FR regularly...MUD

"I had never been to DU.com, but the general feeling of the posters is where I have been at."

Well, if you meet any reasonable folks over there, let them know that there are FReepers who will engage them in dialogue, as long as they keep to the FR.com rules. Anarchists are welcome, as are paganists, liberals, agnostics, libertarians...heck, we even allow DemocRATS to FReep with us. As they say, "It's all about changing Hearts and Minds", and you can't do that unless both sides are open to new ideas.

Disruptors, though, are not tolerated, and there is a huge difference between you and me disagreeing on an issue and me and you calling each other names.

If you find good DU.commers in yer travels, please consider sending them to our "Black" threads, wherein we are relentlessly working to Exact Justice upon DNC Chairman Terry "The Punk" McAuliffe. It's gotten to where no one will disagree with me about the need to Indict, Convict, and Imprison McAuliffe for his crimes, and I'd like to see what the DU.commers see in the dude...seriously.
