Man Arrested In Sniper Case Attended School in Fort Myers (Pic of House)

The younger of two men arrested Thursday morning in connection with the Washington, D.C.-area sniper shootings is believed to have attended public school last year in south Fort Myers.

John Lee Malvo, 17, was arrested at a rest stop in Frederick County, Md., and is one of two suspects in recent sniper attacks that have left 10 individuals dead and three wounded. Lee County school officials confirm that a teenager named Lee Boyd Malvo attended Cypress Lake High from Aug. 13 to Oct. 16, 2001, and authorities presume that individual is the same person arrested Thursday.

Police also arrested John Allen Muhammed, 41, and have said he too is linked to the sniper attacks. Authorities believe the pair may both have lived in central Fort Myers.

"We have been contacted by a law enforcement agency for information and files on this former student," said John Dattola, director of public information and community relations for the School District. "We will comply with this request and give them the information."

Dattola later said the agency was the FBI, which will review cumulative information about Malvo's course selections, grades and other academic material.

A guidance counselor at Cypress Lake High recognized the student's name from morning news reports, then contacted Principal Nancy Graham, who in turn notified district officials. Graham would not release the counselor's name, and several staff members contacted late Thursday declined to comment.

Malvo and Muhammed are believed to have rented a home at 2510 Broadway in Fort Myers from owner Antoine Eveque. Through a Creole/English translator, a woman who answered the telephone at Eveque's home said he was not available to answer questions.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office street index showed one call to 2510 Broadway since 1999. Deputies were called to the house on March 2001 but law enforcement took no action against anyone.

Betty Page moved into 2510 Broadway in October 2001, likely renting the home right after Malvo and Muhammed left. She never knew the men or whomever rented the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home before her, but her residence garnered much media attention Thursday and stirred emotions in the neighborhood.

The home at 2510 Broadway in Fort Myers where John Lee Malvo possibly lived one year ago

"I said, 'Wow, it's a small world,' "Page said about her connection to Malvo and Muhammed.

"This is crazy because they lived kitty-corner from me, but I have never had trouble with my neighbors," said Veda Fremou, 47, who has lived across the street from 2510 Broadway for five years.

Fremou said people would come in and out of the house last year, around September, [ - that's September 2001 - ] at all times of the night. However, Fremou said they weren't loud and she didn't necessarily suspect anything suspicious happening there. She did recall a semi-truck parked at the house sometime last year.

By late morning Thursday, school officials still were uncertain whether the John Lee Malvo who was arrested is the same person as Lee Boyd Malvo. Dattola said much of the district's doubt was eliminated by the late afternoon, but he would not elaborate on what information led officials to believe Lee Boyd Malvo is indeed John Lee Malvo. The FBI telephoned the district around 3 p.m. with its request for student records.

At about the same time, Graham was prepping her school's roughly 1,900 students by announcing over the intercom system that an individual arrested in connection with the sniper shootings likely attended class there. Few teenagers knew Malvo because he only attended class for 39 days, but word traveled quickly as students exited class to a throng of media contingents. ...snip...

Malvo was a Jamaican boy abandoned by his mother and adopted on the streets by (John Allen) Muhammad while he lived in Antigua," said Julian Rogers

This part doesn't add up either because there was a report that his mother went to WA to get her son and the INS got involved in some kind of custody dispute with her and Muhammad

Eastern Caribbean leftists flirting with Libya

Although Washington officials deny it, a behind-the-scenes struggle for the hearts and minds of the people in the small Eastern Caribbean states is underway following a visit by a number of their leaders to the Libyan leader a month ago.

Following the visit the announcement of a Libyan proposal to buy bananas from the islands was rejected by island leaders. Accepted was a program of access to Libya’s $2 billion development fund and $21.5 million in loans and grants.

Participating in the visit to Qaddafi were Prime Ministers Pierre Charles (Dominica), Keith Mitchell (Grenada) and Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent & the Grenadines (SVG). Other heads of government, like Prime Ministers Lester Bird (Antigua & Barbuda), Denzil Douglas (St. Kitts & Nevis) and Kenny Anthony (St. Lucia) backed out or sent representatives...

A Washington expert on the Caribbean-Libyan connection said that the U.S. “isn’t going to pay much attention to it.” He indicates that Washington “has a tacit agreement with Qaddafi that he can do whatever he wants in Africa, the Caribbean or elsewhere, as long as he stays out of the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East.”

Whatever happened to the Monroe Doctrine?

I wonder if Libya's development fund includes any mosque-building?

I think it was called Nations Lounge.

I didn't know it was closed. But the owner of that establishment said that Nathaniel Osbourne worked occasionally for him, and stayed sometimes in the room above the restaurant. Osboune is the "co-owner" of the caprice car - which is odd - why would there be an unrelated co-owner, and for a $250.00 car?

Muhammad and his family lived for about seven years in the 7300 block of South Ainsworth, until he moved out about 18 months ago, Bianchi said.

He lived there 7 years??

When did he get out of the service??

Here is they the local news says about Osbourne

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/news/102502_snipernathaniel.html FBI in New Jersey
Camden, NJ October 25, 2002 — Plainclothes investigators canvassed a rundown rowhouse neighborhood in south Camden on Friday, asking residents about two men arrested in the wave of deadly sniper attacks in the Washington, D.C., area. The officers also asked residents if they had seen Nathanel O. Osbourne, who co-owned the car in which two suspects in the case were found early Thursday at a Maryland rest stop. One man said he last saw Osbourne in Camden on Monday.

FBI spokeswoman Linda Vizi said Osbourne was believed to be in Trenton or Camden. Osbourne is being sought as a witness in the investigation and has not been named as a suspect, Vizi said.

The officers were part of an FBI task force that consists of federal agents, Camden police and detectives from the Camden County prosecutor's office, Vizi said.

Lt. Joe Juniak of the Trenton Police Department said the FBI notified his department about the investigation but that officers have not been canvassing Trenton neighborhoods in search of Osbourne.

Early Thursday, police arrested John Allen Muhammad, 41, and John Lee Malvo, 17, as they slept in a blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice, with the New Jersey license plate NDA-21Z.

The car was co-owned by Osbourne and Muhammad, according to the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Muhammad registered the car in Camden on Sept. 11. Muhammad had bought the vehicle, a former police patrol car, a day earlier from a Trenton auto dealer, Sure Shot Auto Sales.

Both men listed their address as 1400 Sheridan St. in Camden, a two-story brick building owned by Michael Clarke.

Clarke said Muhammad came to the restaurant on the ground floor of the building "three or four times" in August with a teenager, but that he did not live in the apartment upstairs.

He said Osbourne did not live in his building either, but had stayed there for up to two months. Clarke said he saw Osbourne on Monday.

Neither Osbourne nor Muhammad has a criminal record in New Jersey, authorities said.

Here is more about the car .. ALSO if you read down ..

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/news/102502_snipercamden.html

But he has been here since the sniper shootings began, according to one man.

Kurtis Adams, 46, said he saw Muhammad about three days ago when Muhammad parked the Caprice in what everyone knew was Adams' parking spot on Mechanic Street.

"I told him to move from my spot, and the guy said 'OK,' and drove away," Adams said. Adams said he immediately recognized Muhammad when he saw police pictures of him Thursday.

There was a thread about it today. It was closed two years ago, but then reopened. It's open now. Muhammad and Malvo were there with the Caprice on Monday, the day before the bus driver was shot in Montgomery Co.

Reporters in Antigua said yesterday that Muhammad lived on the island between 1999 and 2000, apparently having gone there with his three children -- Selena, John and Taliba -- after the break-up of his marriage.

He at first lived in the village of English Harbour, on the island's south, near to Nelson's Dock Yard, one of the Caribbean's premier yachting centres.

Muhammad later moved to Rose Street in a community called Ottos, just outside the capital (St. John's). Muhammad's three natural children, people in the area said yesterday, attended the Granville Primary School in the community.

Malvo attended the Seventh-day Adventist School. There were no indications of how he performed at school.

Samuir Doumith, who manages Antigua Home Office Depot, on Old Parham Road, just outside St John's, believed he saw Muhammad in his store as recently as two months ago.

When did he get out of the service??

1994, according to the Washington Post, but he moved to Washington state in 1986, while he was still in the Army. He lived in Tacoma first, then for a short time in Antigua, then in Bellingham, as nearly as I can piece together.

This "homeless" guy sure got arround. Hope FBI is checking out Antigua for more al Qaeda black muslims. They might want to track down this guys kids as well.

Here's a story from Oct. 24, from a Philly TV Station.

What Is The Suspect's Local Connection?

No breaking news, but just about the funniest statement I've read in a while. I almost busted my gut!

"...Some neighbors think they remember seeing Muhammad as recently as Friday.

One man said that he thinks he recognizes the car that was confiscated.

"Same car. The reason I know it was, was because of the hub caps. They got the black centerpiece and it looks like the Camden police undercover cars," the man said.

I'm getting tired of the media reporting that he changed his name after 9/11. The warrant that was issued was in 2000 and his name on the warrant was Mohammed.

When did he really change his name?

"A note written by Charles J. Bishop, 15, the student pilot in the Tampa crash, indicated he supported accused terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden and that the act was deliberate, authorities said. The teen-ager died at the scene of Saturday's crash into the 42-story Bank of America Plaza building."

If I recall he changed his name when he became a muslim

But he didn't "legally" change it until after 9/11

So that may be the reason why the media is saying that
