This is probably a stupid suggestion, request, not knowing all there is to know about Free Republic. I have been off and on here since the 2000 Election when I truely discovered this one stop end all website for people with who I am like minded.

After spending almost every day on here for the past couple of weeks, I have met many many wonderful people. People that I look forward to posting with daily. I guess this has become almost like the small town coffee shop for me. Or what once was the small town coffee shop. The one I grew up with is now gone. The place I went every morning and afternoon to sit and have coffee with people I only knew from the coffee shop, but still loved every minute I had there. We would discuss the events of the day, the past day and the events to come.

My question is, is there a place here in FR, that is like the coffee shop? You know, every day, there are dozens and dozens of new items and event items that are posted by us members. And within each of those various news items are many times, hundreds, if not thousands of posts. More than I can ever read much less digest in a day. More, than anyone of us can read in a day, (well, except maybe Valleygal, or Masongal who seem to be here all the time,).

I guess what I'm asking is, if there isn't already a place, what would all of you think about a daily thread, or a place on the home page, or whatever, that is the "Coffee shop". A place to start each day, and read the posts, and visit about anything, and from there, we can direct each other to other threads of interest or whatnot, or hey, just shoot the bull. A place to swap those "Free Republic" cookbook ideas. A place to just say, "Hi" to each other. To ask about the kids. A community center as it were. (Now if there is already a place, that a newer type like myself hasn't yet found, please let me know. Or if you think I am just full of sh!t, well let me know that too, (softly thought, I bruise easily). Just kidding.

Anyway, your thoughts.

I doubt this is the reason, but, I found this interesting tidbit when I did a search for terrorists + teabag on google:

.."more than 100 residents of District 13 waved tea bags to symbolize their lack of a voice in their own
government,in a reference to the 1773 "Boston Tea Party" revolt by American colonists..."

**"symbolize their lack of a voice in their own government"

I don't like all this talk about both Maryland and Virginia have 'stays' on the death penalty at this time. Sigh.

Don't know where you heard that about Virginia, but it is not true. There was an execution in Virginia just a few weeks ago. The Rat governor ran as a support of the death penalty, otherwise he would not have been elected. It is true in Maryland - and it is only a moratorium on executions, not on the actual deliverance of a death penalty. Chances are by the time these scumbags are tried and convicted the moratorium will be lifted, especially if Bob Ehrlich is the new Governor!

This whole thing just seems way too easy- especially considering how difficult it was for the police to do anything for the first few weeks.

You are right. This is not over yet.

What does a 6 hour delay in the press conference tell you? My guess is that other things are going down right now and the cops want to give the public more good news, but that's only my guess.

Agreed...I'm betting they want to come out with that rifle, scope, tripod, hole in the trunk, all that, and be able to say with conviction that they have the guy...I *hope*...timing seems to coincide with when evidence would have first starting coming in from the Caprice...

Fox reported a while ago that the perps are being transported to Federal court in Baltimore. Also they have taken the gun for testing. Moose may be waiting until 6 p.m. to announce the arraignments and the ballistics tests on the gun.

Kattracks posted this here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/775151/posts

CNSNews.com) - WUSA-TV (Channel 9 in Washington) reports that one of the two suspects arrested Thursday by the sniper task force went to a Virginia clergyman, who in turn contacted police with the suspects' names. The suspect went to the clergyman because he was repeatedly rebuffed in his efforts to talk to police. Sources told WUSA the suspect was very frustrated after he had been "put off, hung up on, not believed" when he tried to tell Rockville City police that he was the sniper. Sources say this frustration led him to contact a clergyman in Spotsylvania County, Va., and that clergyman was able to tell police details only the sniper would know.

Hey yukong!

I, too, have enjoyed getting to know many of the freepers on these threads. And yes, there are a few daily threads that are like coffee shops:

1. A day in the life of President Bush- posted by rintense
2. The USO Canteen- posted by SnowBunny
3. A few of FR Finest- posted by Billie

There's also a daily prayer thread and a few others. Stop by the threads mentioned! Of course, I'm a little biased as to which one you should visit first!

More "news" yes - I'm not necessarily going to say "good" at this point. For me, the jury is still out as to whether these two are the goons or not. Although, I'll admit it looks like it...

**"symbolize their lack of a voice in their own government"

thanks fred...or ethel...or both?

my 10-yr-old immediately went to the Boston Tea Party thing when we noticed them. I like the idea.....but, no offense to my neighbors, I wonder if they're clever enough for such a statement! I would hope they'd put some sort of TEA BAG REVOLT word out either in the editorials or even on yard signs. who knows. I'm afraid it's probably some kind of drug or gang thing.

Yukong,

Try the America The Right Way thread. It is posted early every morning by Chairman_Decemebr_19th_Society and indexed on the FR home page. You can sign up for the ping list so you won't have to search for the thread every day. We talk mostly about current events but people can discuss anything.

Cheers!

Ok great. Just wasn't sure which one. I have visited the "day in the life of President Bush" but not the others. I am just looking for a place that will give me enough to know what other threads that I want to visit. Just like the old coffee shop.

Thanks Rintense.

Did I hear correctly that some MD cops actually pulled this guy over around Oct 8th for something else? Then turned him loose. Anyone know what the perp was pulled over for?

Can someone fill me in on the secret compartment in the
car? Was it just to hide the gun or was it rigged so he
could shoot from inside the car?

A place to just say, "Hi" to each other. To ask about the kids. A community center as it were.

The "FR's Finest" daily thread is probably the best place to start. I'm sure there are others that some longer-timers can point you toward.
