A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

SOME OF FR'S FINEST PROFILE PAGES #5 SPECIAL EDITION-SOME OF FR'S FINEST INTERNATIONAL FREEPERS' PROFILE PAGES
Many Freepers have taken advantage of the opportunity to create a Profile Page. The results of these creations are often illuminating, humorous, inspirational, artistic or biographic, just to mention a few descriptive words.
Below are some randomly selected FR's Finest Profile Pages. There are, of course, many other FR's Finest Profile Pages worthy of featuring, and we will be featuring them in future editions of Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages. If you have a Profile Page you would like to share, or if you come across a Profile Page that you want to bring to our attention, you know the drill - freepmail Billie, Mama_Bear, Dansangel or myself.
In the meantime, take a look at Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages #5 - Special International Edition.
Knighthawk's Profile Page consists of an essay by him in which he tells of his love for America-a love that he has had since the days of Reagan. He is a citizen of the Netherlands and this is very poignant and brought tears to my eyes.
Shaggy eel is a delightful poster from New Zealand. He changes his Profile Page regularly with interesting photographs of both himself and his homeland. This is a fun page.
Frednorman's Profile Page contains the following statement: "Norwegian by birth, American in spirit." It also contains a link to his very sophisticated and jam packed web page which has interesting articles and thoughts.
Junichiro Koizumi's Profile Page contains a link to his Web Page, which is printed in Japanese. What makes it interesting to those of us who are not fluent in this language are the links which contain some lovely photogaphs.
a-Turk's Profile Page also brought tears to my eyes. He is a Muslim, born in Turkey, currently living in America. In addition to a moving mini-essay, he has included numerous links providing information on Turkey. Happygal's Profile Page consists of some cute comments, graphics and photographs of the sport of hurling. She is from Ireland and appears to be a Happygal, having produced a happy, upbeat Profile Page.

10-19,20-02 WEEKEND THREAD
Opinions by our own 'King of Ping'
The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer |

And in Turkey they eat lots of veggies...
Along with grains, vegetables are also consumed in large quantities in the Turkish diet. The simplest and most basic type of vegetable dish is prepared by slicing a main vegetable such as zucchini or eggplant, combining it with tomatoes, green peppers, and onions and cooking it slowly in butter and its own juices. Since the vegetables that are cultivated in Turkey are truly delicious, a simple dish like this, eaten with a sizeable chunk of fresh bread is a satisfying meal for many people.

hmmm...is this what Lute Olsen is named after? Also, is Madison where you guys go fish slaying each summer?
FR has been wicky-wacky today - but I've accomplished some much needed WORK. Yikes.
Thank you for the excellent homepages today - quite an ecumenical representation of freepers for us to get to know a bit better.

Just stopping in for a quick hello. What a great idea - FR's Finest International Week!
Welcome to our international FRiends. I visited each of your pages. We are happy to have you with us.
To: daisyscarlett
Lets see this is an old trem I learned when waiting tables just after high school. Place 2 slices of bread on plate, add shredded beef, cover with beef gravy, leave open faced. Add mashed potatoes topped with gravy. It is called a Beef Manhattan..did I spell it right?

I am getting SUCH a late start today - and I see that with FR being down so much, or just so sluggish it's aggravating, hopefully it won't take long to catch up for a change.
I love the idea of International Week and featuring some of our FRiends from across the way. We appreciate each and every one of you and hope you'll be back again - stay tuned for more International spotlights this week. :)

Good afternoon, Seven. We have actually ten groups of Military personnel (veterans and/or active), but so that the thread will load a little quicker, we're posting them every other day in groups of five.
If you have photos of your brother, granddad, and aunt that you'd like to see included in a collage, write me via FReepmail and I'll let you know how to get them to me so I can get them ready for the next group. Always love to include FReepers or their loved ones. It's just nice to show our appreciation and seeing them every other day in uniform makes sure we don't forget what they did and are doing for us still.
It's very nice to see you here and hope to see you back again.

Yes, and there is no way to submit anyone else unless you have an internet server. A simple JPEG does not work here?Cobra, I'm late getting here and only reading from the beginning, so I don't know if this has been answered or not. If you'll FReep mail me, I can post your military photo for you. It's nice to see you - don't think I've 'met' you before. Thanks for coming.

It has been a nightmare trying to get on to FR! We have a very fast cable connection here at work and there were times that I couldn't access it at all. It was very frustrating when trying to get some reliable news about the arrest in VA.
Anyway, I'm getting ready to go home and I see that things are running somewhat better. I'll try to log on later on. If not, I hope everyone has a wonderful and SAFE evening!
Congrats to all of our featured profiles!
MUD: I just love the ditties that you come up with!
Love and {{{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} to you all....I made it through MONDAY------YAY!

,,, good [Tuesday] morning from Wellington, New Zealand. What a lovely surprise to find the Kiwi flag and Shaggy Eel in an international lineup on your welcome thread!
In truth, the photos on my homepage aren't me at all. They're two obnoxious shots scanned from adverts in magazines - the top one is from a FLEETLEASE advert; the bottom one from an AMERICAN EXPRESS campaign. Here's a cartoon of me and my FReeper wife, Calvert Cliffs Cafe in our Morgan 4/4. We live 50km north of New Zealand's capital city, Wellington - on the Kapiti Coast. I check into FR each weekday but don't often get near a computer on the weekends. My wife is more pushed for time, so she doesn't get here too often.
Best wishes from us both!
To: daisyscarlett
I know of another International Freeper.
AmericanInTokyo has been very good at providing the news from Japan.
