I agree, it probably is a match. But I'm not sure the shooter left.

We've speculated a lot on that in this thread. Alberta's Child is of the opinion that the sniper(s) have already been caught and are now enjoying the hospitality of Guantanamo.

Others think the team may simply have moved on and are waiting to regroup elsewhere and strike again.

(There are also many people who think it's a lone psychotic white wacko with a video game obsession.)

Personally, for the little it's worth, I think they've moved on, and not necessarily returned to any foreign country. If I were LE, I'd check out all auto rental places around airports in major cities.

Rented vehicles seem to be a hallmark of these guys (look at OKC and the first WTC bombing) and they appear to have a number of sympathizers working in airports. I'd say this group had at least one member with an airport connection - either an airport employee, or somebody who worked for an airport delivery or taxi service - but that now they have moved on to another contact in another city.

Unless, of course, they're enjoying the Cuban breezes at Gitmo (the best scenario).

Hi Sac,

At times like these, don't you wish this bulletin board let posters correct their own posts! (Hint, hint to the board maintainers)

I agree, this plan of attack is too successful and too "scalable" not to expect to see it repeated in other cities.

In th latest issue of the National Enquirer (had read something while waiting in line at the grocery store this morning), they quoted LE sources that the sniper has left other written messages at crime scenes.

They didn't say what the notes stated other than that the sniper warned police not to release any more of his messages.

It would be nice to have a "delete my message" category but this site has a pretty awesome setup and the "brain" behind it deserves a lot of credit.

Additionally, Peach and Pete? and the graphics posters deserve a lot of credit for their work.

hi, mystery-ak -

Mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, etc, etc. (Yep - even here in the 'desert' we have lawns to mow!)

I just checked in to see if anyone had posted the belly-writing pics yet :)

Why is it taking so long to determine if the bullet matches the subsequent ones? Are there no ballistic tests being done? Has anything been discussed anywhere regarding the reason for the lengthy delay in including this man with the other victims?

I think that, now the sniper hunt has become a matter of national security, they need White House clearance before they can release information.

Interesting: begins on 9/14, ends on 10/14....sac, you're good at picking out numbers, does this mean anything to you? The period of time in between, obviously, is one month, and exactly 30 days. Do these dates mean anything in the Islamic or Hebrew calendar?

I wish they were in Gitmo. But the public fear necessitates telling the public all clear if that was the case. Too much economic damage and the fraying of the social fabric to keep it hidden.

I think they have a match. If they didn't, they'd let us know. What's puzzling is why a sniper paying attenion to detail would leave a shell casing behind. Unless its simply to taunt the LE.

This is understandable, to keep some info. back; but they didn't do this with the others, why keep back on just this person?

Ben [Tasker} was first governor of MD and mayor of Annoplis 200 years ago.

Out of curiosity, I looked up who Benjamin Tasker was, too. No connection, I'm sure, but I thought it was interesting that Spotsylvania County in Virginia is also named for an early governor, Alexander Spotswood and Fairfax County is named for Lord Fairfax. That's the Early Colonial Period

Then, as someone mentioned earlier, there's the Confederate link to Fredericksburg and Manassas being the sites of Confederate victories and that Route 1 is named the Jefferson Davis Highway.

On a happy note, we finally played a football game in the hinterlands of Virginia today. It was our Homecoming game and I was moved to tears by the kindness of the good people who showed up on a Saturday to open their hearts and community to fellow Virginians in need. My sincerest thanks to you folks in XXXXXX County.

"Do these dates mean anything in the Islamic or Hebrew calendar?"

Jewish fall holy days generally fall in this time frame: Rosh Hoshana, Yom Kippur, etc.

why . . . leave a shell casing behind

Well, someone pointed out earlier (forget who, I can go check), that the sniper could have picked up shells off the ground at a shooting range, and dropped it at the middle school to "share." Maybe that's what they did with the truck....so, yeah, taunting LE. They've been very meticulous....makes me think it was intentionally "deposited."

I'll check on the dates themselves. Every month in the Islamic calendar is 30 days long.

I did an initially search on google, and there is stuff out there about both calendar; however, it was over my head. Then, it seems they have calendars according to where you live, i.e., North America (the point being, there's also the possibility they're going by a North American Islamic calendar, or Middle Eastern Islamic calendar, or wherever they're from).
