Ben [Tasker} was first governor of MD and mayor of Annoplis 200 years ago.

Out of curiosity, I looked up who Benjamin Tasker was, too. No connection, I'm sure, but I thought it was interesting that Spotsylvania County in Virginia is also named for an early governor, Alexander Spotswood and Fairfax County is named for Lord Fairfax. That's the Early Colonial Period

Then, as someone mentioned earlier, there's the Confederate link to Fredericksburg and Manassas being the sites of Confederate victories and that Route 1 is named the Jefferson Davis Highway.

On a happy note, we finally played a football game in the hinterlands of Virginia today. It was our Homecoming game and I was moved to tears by the kindness of the good people who showed up on a Saturday to open their hearts and community to fellow Virginians in need. My sincerest thanks to you folks in XXXXXX County.

Spotswood and Fairfax were pretty cool. Fairfax was the mentor and promoter of G. Washington when GW was young (Believe the Fairfax farm was the first survey he worked on at age 15). Just before his death, old man Fairfax expressed his disappointment in Washington in having gone aginst the British since he promoted Washington's anti-French period.

I have a wonderful old book (c 1898 on the Fairfax family and the heirs up until that time.
