ANNOUNCING: THE PATRIOTS RALLY FOR AMERICA II, OCTOBER 26 IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
D.C. Chapter ^ | Monday, October 14, 2002 | Kristinn

Posted on 10/14/2002 6:23:11 AM PDT by kristinn

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing, as well as their friends and families, to join us in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 26, 2002 for the Patriots Rally for America II.

As the United States prepares to take the next step in the war on terrorism, we will be gathering to show support for our troops, America and to serve as a patriotic counter-point to the anti-American leftists who will be holding an "anti-war" rally and march the same day in D.C.

The "anti-war" rally, organized by International ANSWER, will be held right next to the Vietnam War Memorial on the Mall at Constitution Gardens, a safe four blocks away from our rally site at the Washington Monument.

The Patriots Rally for America will feature speakers and recorded music. Supporters are encouraged to bring large American and Gadsden flags. Also, please bring signs bearing messages supporting America, our troops and the war on terrorism.

The anti-American left will be fearmongering that day; raising their tired old cliches of quagmires, body bags and blood for oil. Their real message is that America is an evil nation and should not defend itself against any threats.

They dream of re-living the glory days of the Sixties, when spitting on soldiers and burning the flag were 'cool.'

While we respect their First Amendment rights to speak out (indeed, several of our members fought to protect those rights), we vehemently disagree with their message and will not allow them to take to the streets unanswered.

Members of the D.C. Chapter are financing the Patriots Rally for America, but we could use some help. We have pared back our budget for this rally to around $4,000 compared to the $7,000 we spent on last April's Patriots Rally.

The cost for staging, sound and porta-potties will be around $3,500. We are budgeting $500 for incidental costs.

If you would like to help, please click this link.

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

When: Saturday, October 26, 2002 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Where: The Washington Monument at the corner of 17th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW.

I'm printing it up right now, rr, and it looks great! I just printed a couple of copies in b&w and they look good, too.

Thank you for getting the flyer up so quickly. Now all we need is for everyone to print up some copies and post them in their local libraries, VFWs, American Legion halls, grocery stores...anywhere there is a community bulletin board; also in places where folks will probably have a strong interest in attending.

Bump for RabidRalph, who made a Patriots Rally flyer for us, ready to print and post in public places. We want to see the patriots at our rally outnumber the socialists at the "quagmire" rally. I know, it's DC. But I know there are a bunch of folks who would love to come to a pro-America rally, if they know we're having one. And we sure can't count on the media to give us a hand in publicizing it.

EAGLES UP !!

There are some indirect contact links on Ted's website. It's probably too late for this rally, but maybe in the future. I saw Styx on Fox and Friends the other day doing an acoustic set. I wonder if they swing Right? An acoustic set would probably be more appropriate for a D.C. thing, at least that's how the Left always does it. Just some things to think about.

If I might suggest it.. there are radio stations that will advertise your rally FOR FREE.

When I was doing a "support the troops rally" in Anchorage during Desert Storm, they even had radio interviews with me. They advertised it like mad. If there is a local radio station with a conservative slant, they would be more than happy to do so. They may even BE THERE with a radio van and loud speakers to play Lee Greenwoods "Proud to be an American". Thats what we did. It was very moving.

Anyway.. just throwing out FREE suggestions.

God Bless!!

Taxman's pad in Springfield, 20 minutes from the Rally site. Transportation to the rally will not be a problem.

The "Taxman Motel" has room for three FReepers on either one full-size folding cot, one (very comfortable) sofa, or one (so-so) sofa bed.

Several (probably 4 or 5) FReepers can sleep on the carpet.

We have an empty bedroom, so there can be, if needed, a girls room and a guys room. We have a 1/2 bath downstairs and a full bath upstairs for guests. Regret only one shower, but, hey, the price is right!

The Taxman Motel is a "first come, first serve." So far, there have been no takers, so you will get first choice.

Bring your own pillow, a blanket and a towel.

Y'all come, y'hear. The more, the merrier.

Funny you should mention commies, Taxman. I was just looking around on the dcindymedia website and am checking out their calendar of events right now.

Here's one event that they're hawking to the lefties...

October 23rd 2002
Time 7:00 pm
Title public forum--"WHY WE'RE MARCHING: STOP Bush's War at home and abroad!"
Location St. Stephens Church (basement) 16th & Newton St. NW
Come out to this excellent public forum--"WHY WE'RE MARCHING: STOP Bush's War at home and abroad!"
Speakers:
1) Rev. Graylan HAGLER; Plymouth Congregational Church
2) Lindsay McLaughlin; legislative director International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU)
3) Sherry WOLF - Organizer, 'War and Resistance' Speaking Tour; editorial board, International Socialist Review
4) Pat ELDER - DAWN (DC Anti-War Network)
SPONSORED BY: The DC ANTI WAR NETWORK (DAWN) and the International Socialist Organization

Proclaiming that "America speaks with one voice," George W. Bush is threatening war abroad against Iraq and war at home against one of the most important unions in the United States, the West Coast dockworkers of the ILWU.

As tens of thousands of us prepare to march on October 26th, we must link our opposition to the mass slaughter of innocent Iraqis, to attacks at home on our unions in the name of "security". Please join Reverend Graylan HAGLER (Plymouth Congregational Church), Lindsay MCLAUGHLIN (legislative director ILWU), Sherry WOLF(editorial board, International Socialist Review), and Pat ELDER (DC anti-war network) to debate and discuss why we're marching October 26th and why we must link the war abroad with the war here at home.

Isn't that nice?

ANTI-WAR MARCH

Man flies 3,000 miles to make important point

I am flying to Washington, D.C., to join the anti-war march on Oct. 26. This is a considerable commitment of time, money and energy. Why am I doing it?

In April 1971, when I was an impulsive, long-haired pacifist of 16, I joined my sister in the Moratorium March on Washington against the Vietnam War with 200,000 others. My youthful idealism was reinforced and sustained as the force of public opinion turned the wheel of history, and the Vietnam war machine ground to a halt.

Some of my idealism has survived the ensuing decades. At the same time, I consider myself fairly well informed about the politics and government of our era, and I am deeply distrustful of the current administration.

A recent article, "The Push for War" by Anatol Lieven in the London Review of Books, lays bare a convincing and deeply disturbing picture of the goals of the Bush administration. The hawks and wolves in the president's shadow envision a world dominated by U.S. military might, where corporate interests, the oil industry in particular, can operate unchallenged anywhere in the world. Implicit in this new doctrine is that when opposition to U.S. policy anywhere in the world is made impossible, opposition at home will be no less so.

The dots in my own mind are connecting, and I am convinced that it is time for Americans again to blow the whistle on the government. Our freedoms not only entitle but obligate us to resist illegal and immoral actions by our government in our name.

Millions of Americans long for a nation that uses its ingenuity, wealth and generosity to help eradicate hunger, disease, inequity and the intractable ravages of violence and reprisal. But the wheels of the military-industrial-energy complex, so deeply embedded in our economy and in the current administration, grind forward, and it will take a lot of bodies in the streets to bring them to a halt.

It can be done; we must insist upon it.

Like the rash teenager that I was, America must move beyond adolescence and learn to use its idealism and strength peacefully and humbly among civilized nations to create a secure world.

Will be a bit late on Saturday.

Going to help the America-haters with some flyers explaining how they can renounce their U.S. citizenship.
