The USO Canteen FReeper Style
Delivering a Touch of Home
.
.
A Touch of Home
.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen
Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of
place that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor,
a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they
served.
This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank
them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper
Style, are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

You may have a loved one who has served in the past. We at the FReeper USO Canteen would like to honor each and every one.

Thank you for serving Zbigniew !

Air Power
CESSNA O-2A "SKYMASTER"
The O-2 is a military version of the Cessna Model 337 Super Skymaster. Distinguished by twin tail booms and tandem-mounted engines, it features a tractor-pusher propeller arrangement. Derived from the Cessna Model 336, the Model 337 went into production for the civilian market in 1965. In late 1966, the USAF selected a military variant, designated the O-2, to supplement the O-1 Bird Dog forward air controller (FAC) aircraft then operating in Southeast Asia. Having twin engines enabled the O-2 to absorb more ground fire and still return safely, endearing it to its crews. The O-2 first flew in Jan. 1967 and production deliveries began in March. Production ended in June 1970 after 532 O-2s had been built for the USAF.
Two series were produced: the O-2A and the O-2B. The O-2A was equipped with wing pylons to carry rockets, flares, and other light ordnance. In the FAC role the O-2A was used for identifying and marking enemy targets with smoke rockets, coordinating air strikes and reporting target damage. The O-2B was a psychological warfare aircraft equipped with loudspeakers and leaflet dispensers. It carried no ordnance.
The O-2A pictured was assigned to the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron at Da Nang, South Vietnam in the late 1960s.

Thanks for letting us see your Dad. No man should have to live through the things he did. And he did all that as a teen!
Proud to SALUTE your Dad.

Three gents in a bar are discussing a female acquaintance who is trying without success to have a family.
The first says, "I believe she is impregnable."
The second says, "I think she is inconceivable."
The third disagrees, saying, "You're both off the mark. She is obviously unbearable."

I enjoy posting them. What always surprises me is that Sam can find something additional every day about whatever plane is posted.

That was a great post MoJo. I try to read the D.O.I. every so often. I also keep a copy or two of the Constitution always nearby.
As I was reading it today I noticed one particular line. This one always jumps out at me anyhow. Today though, I thought that I might point it out.
" Experience hath shewn, that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while Evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the Forms to which they are accustomed"
That was a great and brave choice that those people made back then by instituting a new Government. They endured a lot for doing so. How fortunate we all are that those people did what they did. They formed a new Nation that would go on to become the greatest Nation of all time.
I think that people should often be reminded of just what we have. We need to always remember just how truly priceless it really is. There was suffering, before there was reaction, and finally war. What we have was worth fighting for to them and it is worth it to us. That is too bad, but that is the way that it is sometimes.
Those Founders had to back up their words with actions. They did so. We are also in a similar place. We are going to have to defend our American way of life. In doing so we shall make the World a better place!
Freedom is not free!
Also, I do not believe that have been very many people who could have written such a things as the Declaration of Independence!
I remember when I was on a visit to Monticello some time back. I was in total awe of the place. We all realize that Thomas Jefferson was not perfect. He knew it as well. He was a great writer though. His Grave is rather simple. He chose his own epitaph.
"Here was buried Thomas Jefferson Author of the Declaration of American Independence Of the Statute of Virginia for religious toleration & Father of the University of Virginia."
Thomas Jefferson was cool!
I cannot read the declaration of Independence without getting all tingly. I have the same reaction to The Preamble of the Constitution, and to the famous words of JFK, and MLK!
I could go on and on....

It is always important to have reminders of what was sacrificed for us. We take too much for granted. I really love the line you pulled out to highlight. The forefathers were so gifted with words. It isn't just that. They put those words into action. What a wonderful and blessed country we have!! Woohoo!!

Bless This House hummed along with this morning, twice because I love this song for our USO Canteen, and
Prayer of Protection said for all who enter the USO Canteen Freeper Style, including our troops, our veterans, their families and our allies.
Welcome to all who come to honor our troops, for whom this USO Canteen was created.
A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are, God is,
And all is well.
Amen.
Wherever you are, God is, And all is well.
Humming along again, just because I want too.

Thank you for sharing your father's story with us. His story and many other remarkable lives are exactly what the peacenik crowds refuse to acknowledge and purposely either omit, or try to cover over. We need to make sure the sacrifices of folks like your father are never forgotten. History can not be changed; it is what it is.
Your father, and other Veterans from both World Wars gave so much to stop communism, and fascism, yet a significat portion of Americans want exactly that type of tyranny to exist here, and everywhere! The peace at any cost crowd has done a great job of promoting and instilling socialism in our country the past 40 years. And they refuse to accept their responsibility of the insult it has been (and is) to our warriors.
I am honored to read your father's story. It will be in my heart tomorrow!
The Canteen does not avoid nor hide the hard stories, or the hard emotions of what war is. It has been a stabilizing factor in many lives. Like the opening here at the Canteen states, sorry is the nation who forgets its heroes.
