This tells me nothing about SpongeBob, but simply that on some level "gay" men just never grew up.

I'd be the first person to condemn this show if I thought it smacked of gay friendliness.. but the only message I get out of this cartoon is rampant stupidity...it's not even funny.. which, coming from me is pretty bad because I find some pretty bizarre stuff funny..and this just isn't funny.. it's what's become of cartoons...and it's just sad.

Says Mr. Hillenburg: "I always think of them as being somewhat asexual." Well of *course* -- sponges and starfish are not sexually dimorphic.

Sorry, but any adult that watches SpongeBob needs his or her head examined. It is vile.

Mr. Fung says the penchant for reading gay themes into children's cartoons has something to do with growing up gay. "Your family wouldn't let you play with a Barbie doll, and now that you have the means, you go out and buy it for yourself," he says.
Rrrrrrrrrright, Mr Fung, whatever you say. What you're really saying is that you wish you could remake all of America's children in your own image so that you wouldn't have to search for worthless and pathetic associations ...

"You have two male characters bonding as friends." Growing up gay, he says, "you identify with that."Hey, you don't even have to grow up gay to identify with that!

SpongeBob and his pals are part of a long tradition of children's cartoon characters with camp resonance. Scooby Doo's Thelma, the Powerpuff Girls, Peppermint Patty, and even Betty Boop -- all have that certain something. For some gay men, these over-the-top characters are innocent in-jokes borrowed from the mainstream media from right under the noses of clueless straight people. This is part of the left's 'we're smarter than you' mantra, and it's just so much Barbra Streisand. Fond a straigh person who cares that Betty Boop has been hijacked by the gay community. Who cares? Siezing an accepted cultural icon to deflect scrutiny from oneself would seem to me to be some sort of pathology, the work of a person utterly devoid of their own persona.
Being gay means many things, but mostly it means giving up on and not even trying to have a normal relationship (because of an overwhelming fear of failure).
This fear is what makes so many gays angry and self-destructive (Rosie, Elton John, et. al)

I used to be friends with a couple of gay guys. One of them thought everybody else in the world was secretly gay. When watching television he would point at Ted Turner..."gay, obviously gay". When Star Trek came on...."see how he looks at Spock? Shatner is definitely gay". Jimmy Carter? The big Q. Ronald Reagan? Gay. In the couple of years I knew him he let me in on the fact that every male is actually secretly gay.
So now its Spongebob. Bet he's not surprised.

Hey guys, do you know what I think? I think any goober on this thread who's afraid of gays "taking over" their favorite characters has a serious screw loose. Maybe you're afraid that your latent homosexual tendencies will rise to the surface the next time you watch one of your favorite programs. Sicko.

Spongebob is a great kids show, which is very well done. Seriously, the comic timing is unreal, it is obviously done with above average voice actors, (the guy that played "Dober" on "Coach" does the voice of Patrick) Anyone with ANY sense of comedy can appreciate it. The absolutely LAST thing it is is a silly kids show, which is why it is so incredibly popular (cause parents like it to). The violence is also very minimal.
Any of you who don't agree, let's hear YOUR votes for Best Made Cartoons!

Something says gay to men? My suitably sheltered 11-year old daughter called out Sponge Bob's orientation at the Target store two years ago, at least.

SpongeBob is the best cartoon on TV (not counting The Simpsons and Family Guy and Hey, Arnold). SpongeBob is a fry cook. Fry cooks are not gay. Now SpongeBob's pet snail - - the snail who meows like a cat and is named Gary - - he might be gay. And I'm pretty sure that Sandy, the squirrel who lives in Bikini Bottom, is a lesbian. Mr Krab is definitely not gay, and neither is his niece, Pearl. Squidward and Patrick are platonic, I bet. And that boating teacher who ended up in jail because of SpongeBob's poor driving? She is a spinster. A spinster, for sure.

Wow! Have I missed out on popular culture since my kids grew up. Thanks for bringing me up to date.
And I thought I was cool watching the Simpsons.

Wow, I did not know that cartoons had the capacity for this much evil. To me, it seems that everything in this world of a creative or entertainment nature is always being scrutinized for some lame reason or another. A pathetic waste of time.
