A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

ONE OF FR'S FINEST COUPLES

abner and victim of circumstance
Freepers since 10-29-99 and 10-21-01 respectively
Chester County, PA

Abner and victim of circumstance are a patriotic, Conservative, attractive and fun-loving couple from Pa. They run a balloon company together and Abner has a sign and screen printing company (from whence she gets her screenname).

How did victim of circumstance get his screen name? According to abner, it comes from him being a victim of circumstance. He is supportive of all of the things that she "gets started and drags him into." And this lady does get things started. Abner has been involved in many FRee Republic events since she signed up, and we will tell you about some of them. But first, we will talk about their latest joint project - the U.S. Flag Balloon project.

"U.S. FLAG BALLOON"

Link is here.

Abner and voc will be touring the United States flying the U.S. Flag Balloon and giving pocket Constitutions to as many people as they can. They are on a mission to increase interest and understanding of the principles and beliefs that created our country and allowed it to endure, grow and prosper becoming a bastion of freedom and equal opportunity for over 200 years.

The US Flag special shape hot air balloon is: 53 feet tall, 78 feet wide, 29 feet from front to back & weighs 530 pounds, and yes, it REALLY flies (three passengers plus pilot).

The U.S. Flag Balloon was launched in May 2002. The latest flight of the balloon was in Statesville NC on the weekend of 9/20/02.

Here is the link.
Link to press coverage.

"GO HOME HILLARY!"

This was Abner's first big FReep. A group of FReepers got together at her business and made 26 or so really BIG banners to follow Hillary around. Ms. Clinton even mentioned one of them on the Tonight Show. NickyG33 (pictured above) was, according to abner, the "instigator" on this one.

Read all about it here-more great photos, too.
And Celebrities Sign Go Home Hillary Banner here.

"INVESTIGATVE REPORTER"

Remember the mole in the Bush campaign? Abner played a big role in bringing this to the attention of the national media. Here is a link to an article she posted on FR Forum. It is fascinating. She sent the article and the information on this lady, Yvette Lozano, to a major journalist, and he sent it off to Drudge who posted it on his site the next day. The story had "legs" after that and made the national news. It is here

"SIGNS BY ABNER"

Abner has produced and/or created many signs used in a wide variety of freeps over a long period of time (i.e., she made and distributed over 250 Sore Loserman signs). Above, she and voc are seen Feeping in front of the White House. Below, are thumbnails from other protests, including the Second Amendment Sisters March, in which her signs were used. Click on pictures for enlarged view.

And here is a link to her business web page in which she unabashedly "plugs" Free Republic.

"END INTERN ABUSE T- SHIRT"

Abner and Doctor Raoul did this really cool t-shirt that gained national notoriety during the Chandra Levy investigation.

Read all about how it made national media news here.

"HAVING FUN IS IMPORTANT, AND SOMETIMES WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS FUN." .....abner

Abner and voc went to the FR Ball and on the FR Cruise (see above photo). They are involved in the Free Republic Network and attended CPAC where they displayed photos of the U.S. Flag Balloon and launched a mini-version in the hall. The balloon project is keeping them busy yet abner continues to contribute to the Forum on a regular basis. Voc doesn't post much but, according to abner, when he does, it is usually a "doosey".

When the balloon project has ended, no doubt this enegetic couple will delight us with yet another patriotic project. Meanwhile, we can all look forward to the U.S. Flag Balloon visiting our area.

CONGRATULATIONS ABNER AND VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE!!!

I don't like much what is going on !

First a few months ago some man in Belgium claimed he was as psychic and predicted the President would be assassinated in October. He was brushed off as a charleton ( the so called psychic,y=that is) Then we have this shooting spree near Washington, DC. Another freeper on ATRW gave a scenario I wasn't much comforted with.

And now with the words of this MNSBC announcer!

I am really scared for the President!

HOWDY EVERYBODY!!!!! This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad! Today is October 4, 2002! OKAY! A no brainer! LOL! Except this the feast day of the founder of the order I belong to. I have been a Secular Franciscan since May of 2000 when I was professed. The Secular Franciscan Order or Third Order Tertiaries, as it used to be called at the time of it’s founding by ST.Francis of Assisi in the 13th century. There are three Franciscan Orders, The first are the friars (Order of the Friars Minor) The second are the Poor Claires, an order who’s foundress was St. Clair of Assisi. A townswoman of St. Francis. And then there were those persons who had families and other obligations, who wanted to live a life of penance according to the Gospel of Jesus and the rule of ST. Francis. St. Francis was the son of a wealthy cloth merchant in Assisi, Italy. He was the thirteenth century’s version of the spoiled rich kid. He loved to party and do generally all the things that young men did in those days. War came to Assisi and with the other youths of the town, Francis marched into Perugia, with whom Assisi was at war. Francis was taken prisoner along with some of his fellow Assisians. While there, his cheerful singing astonished people for the other prisoners. After he and the others were released and returned to Assisi. Francis decided that he would be an adventurer and a soldier for the emperor. But God had other plans. Francis had a dream were he was shown a castle with an armory full of weapons and armor for warfare. A voice said this armory was for his warriors. Francis took this to mean he was going to be a great prince in front of a great, earthly army. So he went on.

He never made it to his destination of earthly glory, for reasons only known to him, he turned back to Assisi.

Needless to say his parents were scandalized and thought he has lost his mind to display such seaming cowardice. But it was not fear that made him turn back. It was another dream in which he was commanded to go back.

It was after this that Francis had gone to a ruined Byzantine Church, that was falling into disrepair, He was praying at the crucifix that still hung on what was left of the wall of the sanctuary. It was then that he heard a voice saying “Francis, go and repair my church that is, as you can see, falling apart”. The voice meant the spiritual church, but Francis took it literally to mean repair the church buildings. So he set out to do just that.

But that was not what he was called to do, even though he had rebuilt 5 churches in and around Assisi. The final straw was when his father, fearing his son had indeed gone insane, hauled Francis before the Bishop and the Mayor of Assisi. It was there that Francis denounced the world and his inheritance and trappings of wealth to become, a beggar, he had found his “true love” He called her “Lady Poverty”.

He is known for his great love for the Lord and love for Lady Poverty. He was soon joined by others who had a desire to be closer to God. Francis was known for his joy in all things and people. There is so much more I can tell you but it would take a book!

I copied a quotation made by another freeper on a Catholic thread, so allow me to copy it here. She can tell you more that I can.

A meditation on St.Francis of Assisi by Salvation. 10/04/02 For centuries, Christians and non-Christians alike have revered St. Francis of Assisi—whose feast we celebrate today—as a man of simplicity and peace. Francis, however, was not only a gentle-hearted peacemaker who embraced a lifestyle of simplicity. Far more than that, he was a passionate man who loved God extravagantly and sought to live the gospel in a radical way. Turning from his early search for self-fulfillment, he focused his energies on following Jesus instead. Francis’ entire life is a story of conversion—a story that shows how deeply God can change a person who responds to his call. Conversion is a change of heart, a turnaround that enables the Holy Spirit to bring a new orientation to our lives. When we accept Jesus’ invitation to embrace the freedom he offers through obedience, he transforms us. We tend to think of conversion only in terms of turning away from something wrong or repenting of sin. This is a necessary aspect of conversion, yet by focusing only on repentance, we risk losing sight of the positive direction we take when we do repent. We not only turn away from sin, we also turn toward Jesus. We might think that life just won’t be as fun or fulfilling if we give up our old ways. But just the opposite is true. Just think of all the saints—like Francis—who illustrate how rich life can become when we turn to Jesus! Jesus sent his disciples throughout Galilee to proclaim the kingdom of God (Luke 10:8). The response he looked for was the same sort of joy-filled turnaround with which Francis of Assisi embraced the gospel. Yet Jesus knew that not everyone would accept his invitation. Some would reject it, not recognizing the Messiah sent by God (10:16). He grieved over them and rebuked them for this rejection: “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you Bethsaida!” (10:13). Brothers and sisters, let’s open our hearts to Jesus and to all that he offers us each day! Every time we turn toward him, we put darkness and sin further behind us and come more fully into his light and freedom. “Jesus, how you long for each and every person to know your love! I pray for those who have turned away from you. May they turn around once more and embrace your salvation. Come, Lord, and extend your kingdom into their hearts!”

There, Salvation says it better!

To all my brother and sister Franciscans and Catholics everywhere, Happy Feast day!

To all my brother and sister Franciscans and Catholics everywhere, Happy Feast day!

Thank-you for posting this tribute to St. Francis, Pippin. He was a wonderful representative of the Roman Catholic Church. I love the fact that he was a friend to all of God's creatures.

God Bless You, Pippin and a Happy Feast Day to you, as well.

I'm glad you liked it, Pippin. Our church had the "Blessing of the Beasts" last evening. If I didn't think our two felines would drown out the priest we would have brought them! LOL!

That was what I liked about ST.Francis. Well, one of the things.

All creatures were of God as God made them and all creatures were his brothers and sisters, did you ever read his "Canticle to the Creatures? If I can find mine I'll post it here one day.
