Fox news just reported, Ashcroft is asking NJ officials to explain why they are not following federal election laws in regards to military ballots in the switch and bait ruling.

I like that tactic ... it allows the administration ground to stay above the mud ... "We're just asking the question. Please reconcile your intentions in light of Federal Law." Also, plase note for the coming firestorm of partisan political trash to be thrown on Ashcroft - he is REQUIRED under the Voting Rights Act to be involved in and monitor elections and rulings related to elections. If the dems start saying Ashcroft should mind his own business, remind them it IS his business as AG.

The NJSC doesn't have the final say on if the Dems can deprive people of their right to vote in federal elections, does it?

Ashcroft has a press conference at 2 PM today (discussing the Oregon al Qaeda arrests). I wonder if he'll have anything to say about NJ and the military ballot issue.

I think what the Dumb-ocrats will say is that the ballots that have already been sent out will be voided or treated like spoiled ballots. Then they will "devine" what the voter's "real" intent was and award all the votes to Lautenberg.

The more you give in to a RAT - the more they demand! Look what 'in your face' tactics they're pulling right now. They expect us to shut up and be nice about it - so they can do it again.

As other posters have noted, a symbol that would effectively evoke the voters fear of the Dems' inclinations would be the soldier in Afganistan, fighting to preserve the very rights the Dems would deprive him of for their own crass political gains. Another symbol is the documented attempt to disenfranchise military voters in Florida. There was a Gore campaign memo outlining the strategy. One message could be, "remember florida...here they go again! What does the Democrat political machine have against the men and women who put their lives on the line for this country? Unlike the Democrat machine, Doug Forrester respects our military and will fight to preserve their civil rights such as the right to vote."

6. Victory lies on the side of the people. Forrester will win if he casts himself as the defender of the peoples' right to fair elections, to an enfranchised military, etc.

I supported the Bush efforts in Florida very vocally and with my donation to the Recount Fund. The two are completely different since in the Bush case the election was over and no national campaign strategy was in any way threatened.

Forester must be the plaintiff in the lawsuit. It's called standing. Remember Bush v. Gore? Others can weigh in. The Civil Rights Division? Huh? You're not an attorney are you? Or experienced in persuading people.

Forrester has no real standing. Those who have standing are military voters. Those military voters are represented by the Justice Dept. who has entered into a consent decree with the States regarding proper handling of military absentee ballots. So stop being so snide.

The real problem with the new direction of voting in NJ is that military voters must get a chance to vote. If you stop or hinder their right to vote, then its a federal offense. This was the same problem in Florida. You cannot hinder our basic rights as the protective arm of the United States. You needed 4 to 6 weeks to mail out ballots and get them back. Basically, you are throwing the laws totally out the front door if you don't take military voters into consideration. This ought to be a national law in terms of deadlines. I'm not saying 51 is the magic number but surely people can understand that the military deserves its right to vote.

I think you are missing the fact that people don't like wimps. If the GOP allows this the average voter will say "Pubbies are wimps" and either won't vote or will vote for the enemy. When we stand for what is right and fight (see Bush II or Reagan) then we win.

The proper course of action is to fight this with every weapon we have available. It will reap benefits in NJ and across the nation. ("Hey those Pubbies have balls. they are exactly what we need to kick some islam butt")

29% or so will vote dem. They are traitors or brain dead and always vote dem regardless. 29% or so vote pubbie. They know the truth and support it. The election is won by being a MAN to the 40% in the middle. Reagan ran proudly far right and the middle worshipped him for it.

Another liberal lie easily swallowed by some. Bunches of absentee ballots were never counted in some states because they could not affect the outcome of the election. And as we all know absentee ballots normally run predominantly republican due to military votes.

Then we subtract out rampant vote fraud and we see that President Bush (God I love saying that) won the popular vote quite handily.
