Fox news just reported, Ashcroft is asking NJ officials to explain why they are not following federal election laws in regards to military ballots in the switch and bait ruling.
This might get interesting

I like that tactic ... it allows the administration ground to stay above the mud ... "We're just asking the question. Please reconcile your intentions in light of Federal Law." Also, plase note for the coming firestorm of partisan political trash to be thrown on Ashcroft - he is REQUIRED under the Voting Rights Act to be involved in and monitor elections and rulings related to elections. If the dems start saying Ashcroft should mind his own business, remind them it IS his business as AG.

Can someone look up and post some of the Dem comments in regards to the Rudy extension questions? That would be fantastic!
To: bybybill
unless the Rats find pictures of Forrester doing something with a goat, he will beat Lautenberg. Frankie was a record and it ain`t very special. Have faith Hope you're right Bill!
It's just that these duplicitous dimo dirty tricks and absolute distain for the rule of law makes me CRAZY! Arrrggghh! :O)
To: Senator Pardek
How can this affect the NJSC's ruling, which is the final say on if the Dems can break the law? The NJSC doesn't have the final say on if the Dems can deprive people of their right to vote in federal elections, does it?

Ashcroft has a press conference at 2 PM today (discussing the Oregon al Qaeda arrests). I wonder if he'll have anything to say about NJ and the military ballot issue.
To: Brytani
I think what the Dumb-ocrats will say is that the ballots that have already been sent out will be voided or treated like spoiled ballots. Then they will "devine" what the voter's "real" intent was and award all the votes to Lautenberg.

Nice words - but the last time I looked - I never saw a RAT that was afraid to look like a partisan and it's worked very well by making the Republicans bend over backwards trying to be the 'gentleman and lady'! In this world you need to stand up for what is right and what you believe in.
Playing nice has not worked before and it won't work now!
The more you give in to a RAT - the more they demand! Look what 'in your face' tactics they're pulling right now. They expect us to shut up and be nice about it - so they can do it again.
That's exactly right. Here's what David Horowitz says about this issue:
"[A]n illustration of Republicans' idea of political warfare is the following slogan posted [by] the Repulican Policy Committee ... : "Republicans target the problems; Democrats target the politics."There could hardly be a more succinct explanation of why Republicans are so regularly routed by their Democratic adversaries .... It's the politics, stupid. If you do not focus on winning the political battle, you do not get to target the problems.
Before Republicans can begin to change this situation, they need to stop whining that life is unfair, ... and that Democrats do not play by the rules. ... They do it because that is the way they win.
* * *
Here are the principles of political war that the left understands, but conservatives do not:
1. Politics is ware conducted by other means.
2. Politics is a war of position.
3. In political warfare, the aggressor usually prevails.
4. Position is defined by fear and hope.
5. The weapons of politics are symbols evoking fear and hope.
6. Victory lies on the side of the people.
Here's what this means in this situation:
1. Politics is war conducted by other means. We are at war with the Dems and must conduct ourselves accordingly.
2. Politics is a war of position. We must position ourselves on the side of fairness and justice: this is not a fight about technicalities, it is about depriving primary voters of their chosen candidate and military and absentee voters of their right to vote.
3. In political warfare, the aggressor usually prevails. We have to vigorously and proactively take the fight to the Dems, and not just sit by while they subvert the political process and disenfranchise our military. This means forcefully and repeatedly denouncing the bait-and-switch that undid the results of a primary election and that now threatens to disenfranchise the military.
4. Position is defined by fear and hope. Decent voters fear that the Democrats are anti-military, soft on terrorism, and will break any rules to win. They are correct, and we must remind them that the Dems' actions in NJ confirm each of these fears.
5. The weapons of politics are symbols evoking fear and hope. As other posters have noted, a symbol that would effectively evoke the voters fear of the Dems' inclinations would be the soldier in Afganistan, fighting to preserve the very rights the Dems would deprive him of for their own crass political gains. Another symbol is the documented attempt to disenfranchise military voters in Florida. There was a Gore campaign memo outlining the strategy. One message could be, "remember florida...here they go again! What does the Democrat political machine have against the men and women who put their lives on the line for this country? Unlike the Democrat machine, Doug Forrester respects our military and will fight to preserve their civil rights such as the right to vote."
6. Victory lies on the side of the people. Forrester will win if he casts himself as the defender of the peoples' right to fair elections, to an enfranchised military, etc.

"The issue of the military ballots is a win-win for us. Let the media and the liberals scream. We win this issue hands down, and it finesses beautifully with the Iraq debate.
Me thinks the Bush Administration is about to body slam the RATS on this issue."
We certainly are living in good times aren't we?
To: Iwo Jima
I supported the Bush efforts in Florida very vocally and with my donation to the Recount Fund. The two are completely different since in the Bush case the election was over and no national campaign strategy was in any way threatened.
Your comparison does not apply and avoids my entire point.
To: Iwo Jima
Forester must be the plaintiff in the lawsuit. It's called standing. Remember Bush v. Gore? Others can weigh in. The Civil Rights Division? Huh? You're not an attorney are you? Or experienced in persuading people.
Forrester has no real standing. Those who have standing are military voters. Those military voters are represented by the Justice Dept. who has entered into a consent decree with the States regarding proper handling of military absentee ballots. So stop being so snide.
To: hchutch
The real problem with the new direction of voting in NJ is that military voters must get a chance to vote. If you stop or hinder their right to vote, then its a federal offense. This was the same problem in Florida. You cannot hinder our basic rights as the protective arm of the United States. You needed 4 to 6 weeks to mail out ballots and get them back. Basically, you are throwing the laws totally out the front door if you don't take military voters into consideration. This ought to be a national law in terms of deadlines. I'm not saying 51 is the magic number but surely people can understand that the military deserves its right to vote.

I think you are missing the fact that people don't like wimps. If the GOP allows this the average voter will say "Pubbies are wimps" and either won't vote or will vote for the enemy. When we stand for what is right and fight (see Bush II or Reagan) then we win.
The proper course of action is to fight this with every weapon we have available. It will reap benefits in NJ and across the nation. ("Hey those Pubbies have balls. they are exactly what we need to kick some islam butt")
29% or so will vote dem. They are traitors or brain dead and always vote dem regardless. 29% or so vote pubbie. They know the truth and support it. The election is won by being a MAN to the 40% in the middle. Reagan ran proudly far right and the middle worshipped him for it.

Last I checked Al Gore won the popular vote so your statement is wishful thinking. But that aside, a frontal assault is not the only valid campaign strategy that exists in the world. It may be your favorite but its not always the smartest.

Last I checked Al Gore won the popular vote so your statement is wishful thinking Another liberal lie easily swallowed by some. Bunches of absentee ballots were never counted in some states because they could not affect the outcome of the election. And as we all know absentee ballots normally run predominantly republican due to military votes.
Then we subtract out rampant vote fraud and we see that President Bush (God I love saying that) won the popular vote quite handily.

As much as I would like to see Olsen, and assuming there is a "win" for the Repubs (and people), it would likely be spun by the Dems as the ruling of a "sympathetic court".
Yes, that's how low I think the Dems are!!

I would say that Al Gore got a whole damn lot of votes even though he is the most gigantic wimp in the Democratic Party (and thats saying something). So your comment that the American people won't vote for a wimp is still wishful thinking regardless of whether you accept the final vote tally or not.
To: maryz
As we all know, Democrats are above the law.

Goes to show you the dems don't even care about public opinion and those who support the party don't care about the law either.
I hope, at some point in my life, the dems are slapped hard for what they've done to the laws of this country.

The GOP needs to hammer in the fact that once again the dems are throwing out military ballots, especially at a time we are at war.
This needs to be said over and over and over again until the idiots that vote Dem get it through their heads.
