I am making a prediction here that Saddam will shortly announce to the world that his sleeper cells have been instructed to release their WMD in strategic locations throughout the world if he is harmed or arrested.
This line of thinking fits in perfectly with the divide and conquer theory. He knows that this will give the Democrats the perfect excuse not to go after him, and we'll have another divided country just like in the Viet Nam War.
I can't tell you what's going to happen after that. I just know that there will be some serious ass-kicking.

What, no mother of all battles? LOLOL oh, I am afraid Saddam has a new speech writer......Terry McAwful perchance?

I expect Saddam to have another surprise up his sleeve, a la blowing up the wells in Kuwait to limit our air power. Huh? What do the oil fields/wells in Kuwait have to do with limiting our air power?
To: M. Peach
Actually the threat of a nuclear device along with the arsenal of chem/bio weaponry will be enough to deter a ground invasion of Iraq. The nukes are his ace in the hole.
W and the planners are well aware of this and must stop him BEFORE he draws this ace.

Just heard on Fox News from Tariq Azziz - "If the U.S. attacks Iraq, they will suffer deaths not seen for decades...."

"But what good will it do him if he waits until it's too late?" dark_lord saved me the trouble of answering your question in #40. I would only aDD that hussein's, 'victories,' in the Iran-Iraq war were generally obtained through attrition, and that he is no stranger to a scorched-earth policy. Causing the damage and the subsequent terror, is in his mind, victory in and of itself.
To: M. Peach
He'll leave that to his Islamicist buddies. Gotta maintain deniability. In fact, the Islamacists have already announced that any attack on Iraq will constitute provocation for more 9-11s.

I was just reminiscing Saddam's past predictions, he sounds like a Kennedy or other democRats.

I believe the same is true with Osama -- if they catch him he will blackmail us with similar threats . . . .

"Anyone else have any predictions on how our war against Iraq will play out?"
We will bomb every possible military asset outside Baghdad, we will inject special forces into Iraq to surround Baghdad and further identify targets.
I do not believe that we will attempt a frontal assault against Baghdad, but make them come to us, then counterattack.
Saddam may fall or flee if Iraq's major cities are invested.

I think he knows America's resolve, and he's run out of ideas. What would you do if you were in his shoes? Take my billions and go live in exile somewhere, drinking, having women, and getting a great screen name on FR.
To: Arkinsaw
His goal is to unite the Arab world under his leadership and always has been. I think he will focus his reaction against the US and Israel only. This is true. The funny thing about this, is that the best way to assume secular power for megalomaniacal Saddam is to assume the religious mantle. He isn't a religious guy; he cares only about himself. `It is only relatively recently that he has deviated from the strict strongman persona and been shown praying and wearing a kaffiyeh. Strangely, in this he is probably like Mohammed, who was also a megalomaniacal psycho who used religion to enhance his power.
Think about it--most relentless preachers can score a lot of chicks and get to process a lot of goodies for the cause, if they are so inclined. Those who combine this with state power--well the sky is the limit.

The U.S. of A. still has one helluva lot of WMDs if anyone else wants to play that game.

He already did, West Nile...L~I'll bet he had a really hard time infecting all those mosquitoes. Getting 'em to sit still for the shot would be quite difficult.
To: ward_of_the_state
The hard part is mounting a mosquito - which means you have to get them drunk first..... Here -hold muh beer....

My question is: define WMD. Most of us would say, bombs. I now think it's botulism...or another altered virus that creates a slow painful death.

This will not happen. Saddam is just not good enough/clever enough. This is a plausible scenario for the future but not for Saddam.

saddam's a pansie ...he's going to be running around with diaper filling in his boxers... i don't think any sleeper cells are going to arise after the US kicks irak's rear end... it will be hard to find him, dead or alive, but it will mean little. I believe that the US has knocked a couple of legs out from under world terrorism's chair and they are still reeling...Israel has done a pretty good job of dealing with hamas. One can hope they/we will invade the bakah valley and put an end to a lot of this garbage
