Laura Bush confident in Mexico-U.S. immigration agreement
EFE - 9/26/2002
U.S. First Lady Laura Bush said she was convinced an immigration agreement could be reached between Mexico and the United States, because their leaders want it.
Mrs. Bush, who participated in the 11th Conference of the Wives of Heads of State and Government in Mexico City on Wednesday, said, "I do see a solution to this problem."
In statements to the Mexican press made in Washington and published Wednesday in Reforma daily, Laura Bush explained she and her husband had lived in Texas for many years and have a special sensitivity for the problems of the U.S. Hispanic community.
"There are so many stories about immigrants and the children of immigrants in the United States. Our whole country is made up of immigrants who were able to overcome poverty and obtain good jobs. There are many examples in my husband's administration," the first lady noted.
Mrs. Bush acknowledged that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks had set back the agenda between Mexico and the United States, but insisted that Presidents Bush and Fox "are going to meet again to try to revitalize and refocus the issue of immigration."
The first lady said she felt "a special bond with Mexico" and recalled the couple had spent their honeymoon in Mexico City and the Caribbean resort of Cozumel. The first lady is expected to focus on childhood poverty as she participates in this summit.

Our whole country is made up of immigrants I am so sick of hearing this false rationalization. We are a country made up of LEGAL immigrants, not ILLEGALS.
There are many examples in my husband's administration," the first lady noted.
I doubt if there are many illegals working in the Bush administration. If true, they should be deported.

With all due respect to Mrs. Bush, I wish she'd show a little more concern for the US Citizens who are directly affected by the invasion from the south. In certain places along the border, people are basicly prisoners within their own homes at night. Why don't the President or Laura realize some of the negative aspects of illegal immigration? Why don't they ask the Mexican government to stop it? Why do we not stop it?
I have not seen this President or any other even acknowledge the negative impacts illegal alliens make on this nation.

There *are* NO more good jobs in the US. We've exported them all. There is no work for millions of unskilled, uneducated people that our *own* unemployed can't do. Why are they shoving this agenda down our throats? MOST Americans are AGAINST 245(i). Why do they keep shoving it down our throats????? Aren't my taxes high enough already?????

"...because their leaders want it."Sadly, she is right. It matters not a bit, what we want. "

I'm sick of it too...I am not an immigrant--I was born here.
There has never been, in our history, a mass immigration of foreigners that did not result in poverty, disease, increased crime, unemployment and the ruination of urban areas. Times have changed. We need to take a more realistic look at mass immigration, especially of the illegal sort.
We're all paying for it, and "cheap labor" isn't worth it.

I doesn't matter what you or I want. What matters is what the lobbyists who write fat checks to our "representatives" and what they want. The sad fact is that every congressman in Washington has to raise something like $10,000 a day in order to be considered a "viable candidate". Senators have to raise more, something like $20,000 to $30,000 a day.
So now you know the reason, and now you know why there is nothing "we the people" can do about it. Our government is totally and completely controlled by corrupt big money interests.
America - it was a nice idea while it lasted.

I'd like everyone to remember that Vicente Fox delivered an ultimatum on Sept. 8th at Pres. Bush's first State Dinner, that he wanted an immigration plan by the end of the year.
Then, 9/11 happened, and Bush realized that he couldn't push for the open borders that Fox wanted.
When will everyone realize that the problem with our Southern border is the incredible number of illegals - how they swarm over the border every night. I happen to think that Bush hasn't addressed the problem yet, and I continue to fear that some terrorist will come across the border, whether it is the Mexican or Canadian.
I wish that Laura and Pres. Bush realized that we don't want more illegals and that we want all those we are already here sent home. I'd like it if all immigration - legal and illegal were stopped for a year, so that the INS can catch up with who is here, and who has overstayed, and send the latter home.
As someone who sees their area being overtaken by recent arrivals from Mexico, I'm tired of having to speak Spanish just to get a stinking burger in McD's. And I live in No. VA. It's insane. We have to close our borders. NOW!

I've got your "immigration agreement", Laura. The Mexicans can stay on their side of the border, and we will stay on our side.

Yup. The leaders want it. The peasants can drop dead...as long as they keep paying taxes to support the leaders bad ideas...and treason...

This "nation of immigrants" baloney is just that. The vast majority of Americans are not immigrants. They were born here.
From Craig Nelsen:
The inference that "We are a nation of immigrants and, therefore, we must not limit immigration" is a classic example of CIRCULAR ARGUMENT.
What it says is this: Because we are a nation of immigrants, we have to allow for massive immigration which, in turn, makes us a nation of immigrants. Hence its circularity.
Circular arguments are invalid in the logical sense by virtue of HOW they are structured and not WHAT do they mean. They lead to a faulty (and, therefore, useless) reasoning in which the thesis (the very thing which is to be proved) is used as a premise in its proof.
The "nation of immigrants" drivel is rather idiotic and totally false. I don't know why people keep repeating it.
To: gubamyster
We are a country made up of LEGAL immigrants, not ILLEGALS. Speak for yourself but I'm not an immigrant. I'm one of the native born Americans and my parents and grandparents were also. We the native born are still a slight majority.

EVERY nation is a nation of immigrants. It just depends on where you draw the 'here before' line. England is a nation of Immigrants, France is a nation of Immigrants, Saudi is a nation of immigrants...EVERY nation is a nation of immigrants.

Laura Bush needs to come up with a plan then on how and who is going to pay for massive third world immigration. Why does Bush call himself an "education president" and insist that taxpayers should cough up billions more for education because it's so important and then turns around and imports tens of millions of people from Mexico and Guatemala with at best a 3rd grade foreign education, no reading skills, no language skills.
