A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Home on the Range!
If it wasn't already evident by his screenname, one would soon learn this Native Texan has more than a passing interest in guns. I think in every correspondence I had with him regarding today's profile, he mentioned going to the gun range, having been to the gun range, or thinking about going to the gun range! :)
humblegunner
FReeper since 01-23-01
Sometimes, Getting to Know You means letting the FReeper of the Day tell us something about himself, in his own words. These, then, are some of humblegunner's words ........
Born in 1964, a Native Texan.
I grew up on different ranches we owned in Elgin, Bastrop, Alpine and Marlin, TX. Dad served in Korea as a Fire Control Officer...he was a Colonel upon retirement and transferred to the Army Finance Corps upon return to the states.
At age 13 I was sent to Allen Military Academy in Bryan, TX (prep school for A&M), but by the time I graduated I had been exposed to quite enough Corps and decided, much to my later chagrin, not to pursue a Military career. It should be noted, however, that I learned many invaluable things at Allen, which have served me well in later years.
Currently I am employed as a Dangerous Goods Specialist for a Chemical Manufacturing Plant in Houston, TX and am responsible for the shipment of hazardous materials by land, sea & air.
I am a very strong supporter of the 2nd amendment and also States rights.
I became involved with FreeRepublic through a friend sending me links for a couple of years. Id read the article and make comments to my friend; when I realized he was posting some of them, one thing led to another.
I have been involved in several Freeps.
Jumping Jim Jeffords (D-VT) Freep Report - H.A.T. (Houston, TX) FR Chapter, May 19, 2002
After Action Report - Counter Freep of Fmr. Pres. Bush Demonstrators - Houston, TX, May 11, 2002
Houston Chapter Celebrates San Jacinto Day, April 21, 2002 (Many PHOTOS here!)
Texas GOP Convention [PICTURES!], June 30, 2002
I very much enjoy visiting the shooting range with FReeper Friends.

The photo below is from the San Jacinto thread, which is linked above. Be sure and check out those threads; there are many more photos of the Houston FReepers celebrating San Jacinto Day, and also photos on the Texas GOP Convention thread.
BIG Guns at the Battleship Texas
Another interesting thing I learned about humblegunner...interesting and unexpected for an outdoor type that loves to shoot: he said he used to work in charcoal & pastel long ago.. no portraiture, only animals & landscapes..
I have just one more photo...
wanted to save it for last.
Ladies...yes, he is single. :)

Quiet, you!
To: Billie
...haven't seen you for a few days, I don't thinkI have been:
1) camping;
2) busy with work, housecleaning, friends, family, and catching up on my snail-mail;
3) fighting an end of summer cold (or perhaps allergies);
4) missing you all! (:
Thank you for spreading so much love and cheer, Billie! I hope to have life and FR time settle into their appropriate places by the close of the Labor Day weekend...but one never knows!

My Dad started taking my sister and I out to the sandpit when we were 7 and 9. Of course, my older brother got to go hunting years before that, and of course we were very jealous! Nothing delights me more than seeing a dad with his girl at the range or the sandpit - not only for my own memories' sake, but for the passing on of such American values as self-defense, self-control, and self-preservation!
We don't get out nearly often enough now, but Dad has a great collection, and whenever he gets a new gun we have a great excuse to ditch any other tasks and head out to his private shooting range for some practice. He just got the Vaquero birdshead grip .45, in both blue and stainless.

Thanks very much!

Just saw your question on the M-1! (Gotta train myself to read my pings backwards)!
Yes, I have the M-1. It is my favorite gun to shoot. Light, no kick, semi-auto...It's the one I keep next to my bed. I am very accurate with her, but I give her all the credit.
To: humblegunner
(Chapter gunsmith)Now there's something I can be jealous of! Too cool.
Billie shoulda put that in the opening credits!
To: bobbyd
This is just beautiful! Sunrise and sunset on the water is hard to describe! It's twice as pretty, because you see the reflection in the water, too!
Thanks for your kind words - and thanks for coming. Hope to see you again - like on today's thread, which I will be posting momentarily!

Just keep feeding him your famous brownies. That'll teach him. :^) I am still waiting for her to get them out of the box. She is trading them for dog bisquits.
For some strange reason,she thinks I have changed my diet since me new residence has been assigned to the LIR doghouse. :>)

If you could pivot the Soutern most tip of Tx northward (flip it over)......you'd touch Canada. Grab El Paso and pivot the state east and you touch the Atlantic.
Similarly, if you could piviot Westward.......you're in the Pacific.
It's a Bigun!

Gunner on a Battleship......sheesh
Don't mess with Texas!!!!!!
To: humblegunner; Billie
Congratulations, humblegunner. You are a very deserving One of FR's Finest. And what a nice bunch of FRiends you have with so many coming over to say hi today. Nice to see so many new faces here. And your Profile Page is really coming along nicely, too.
Billie, I just loved your presentation today. I bet it was done in grey because of gunmetal grey? Whatever, it turned out really nice...
