A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Home on the Range!
![](http://www.d21c.com/billie/FRFinest/gunner2logo.gif)
If it wasn't already evident by his screenname, one would soon learn this Native Texan has more than a passing interest in guns. I think in every correspondence I had with him regarding today's profile, he mentioned going to the gun range, having been to the gun range, or thinking about going to the gun range! :)

FReeper since 01-23-01
Sometimes, Getting to Know You means letting the FReeper of the Day tell us something about himself, in his own words. These, then, are some of humblegunner's words ........
Born in 1964, a Native Texan.
I grew up on different ranches we owned in Elgin, Bastrop, Alpine and Marlin, TX. Dad served in Korea as a Fire Control Officer...he was a Colonel upon retirement and transferred to the Army Finance Corps upon return to the states.
At age 13 I was sent to Allen Military Academy in Bryan, TX (prep school for A&M), but by the time I graduated I had been exposed to quite enough Corps and decided, much to my later chagrin, not to pursue a Military career. It should be noted, however, that I learned many invaluable things at Allen, which have served me well in later years.
Currently I am employed as a Dangerous Goods Specialist for a Chemical Manufacturing Plant in Houston, TX and am responsible for the shipment of hazardous materials by land, sea & air.
I am a very strong supporter of the 2nd amendment and also States rights.
I became involved with FreeRepublic through a friend sending me links for a couple of years. Id read the article and make comments to my friend; when I realized he was posting some of them, one thing led to another.
I have been involved in several Freeps.
Jumping Jim Jeffords (D-VT) Freep Report - H.A.T. (Houston, TX) FR Chapter, May 19, 2002
After Action Report - Counter Freep of Fmr. Pres. Bush Demonstrators - Houston, TX, May 11, 2002
Houston Chapter Celebrates San Jacinto Day, April 21, 2002 (Many PHOTOS here!)
Texas GOP Convention [PICTURES!], June 30, 2002
I very much enjoy visiting the shooting range with FReeper Friends.

The photo below is from the San Jacinto thread, which is linked above. Be sure and check out those threads; there are many more photos of the Houston FReepers celebrating San Jacinto Day, and also photos on the Texas GOP Convention thread.
BIG Guns at the Battleship Texas
Another interesting thing I learned about humblegunner...interesting and unexpected for an outdoor type that loves to shoot: he said he used to work in charcoal & pastel long ago.. no portraiture, only animals & landscapes..
I have just one more photo...
wanted to save it for last.
Ladies...yes, he is single. :)

...The Big Texan Diamond Back? The Big Texan Restaurant in Amarillo is a big tourist stop...Free 72oz steak dinner if you eat it in an hour....about 2,500 have managed it in the last 40 or 50 years...I think.
Anyway, they kept a rattle snake in the gift shop and he just died. They also have a wandering music quartet that plays requests...when I asked them to play Waltz Across Texas for my sister, one of the musicians mentioned it was just as fun as "All My Exes Live in Texas"

It was my pleasure to get to know you and some of the outstanding Houston area freepers. Please don't be a stranger to the thread. There's a nice fat button on FR's home page that can get you here any time. JL

Cob, I just wanted to say I did good on that thread about Chief Negotiater. I know it must have been tough on you, I didn't know the Chief. But I feel like I wished I had met him, according to what others have said about him. I hope you and they find out what happened and the person responsible for his death gets whats comming to him or her.
May God bless you and all Chief's friends and family, May justice come swiftly.

There you have it, folks - our dear Captain!
Being Crew Leader of this bunch of us psychoceramics, as he dubbed us, is no easy task!
(at least he didn't charge for our Group Therapy!)
There are endless benefits - - an inexhaustible supply of Spam, which can be used either for meals or phish bait or shark repellent - the comfort of swinging hammocks in the Crew Cabin, rotating our sleeping times, etc.
There is one end of the deck assigned for the ladies to exercise, behind a barrier for our privacy.
We did complain (to no avail), though, when the aluminum shield was replaced in turn by chicken wire and then two strands of barbed wire - but we were outvoted..:((

Keegan: If Churchill were alive today, he would strike at Saddam Excerpt:
The odour of appeasement that permeates the Western world has apparently driven President George W Bush to seek strength by studying the career of Winston Churchill.
Depressed by the warnings of his father's old friends against taking action against Iraq, he is looking for support in the life story of the supreme anti-appeaser. Churchill's refusal to be silenced by the peacemongers during Hitler's rise to power, a refusal all too painfully proved right when war came, sets an example President Bush finds reassuring.
If Churchill was right about Hitler, he seems to be asking, how can America be wrong about Saddam Hussein, a dictator who is on the brink of acquiring nuclear weapons, a power Hitler never possessed?
The parallel is compelling, particularly to Americans, among whom Churchill, son of an American mother, continues to be venerated as perhaps he never was in his father's country.
< snip >
At the present time, President Bush must feel himself surrounded by men who think of everything - of how much America is disliked in the world, of how fragile is the hold it has on its so-called allies, of how unstable is the Middle East, of how unpredictable are the consequences of military action.
He is bombarded by advice from the conventionally wise who see danger on every hand. Some of them are military men who, as so often military men do and Churchill found, doubt the usefulness of force and counsel prudence or inaction altogether.
