A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 08-28-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Home on the Range!

If it wasn't already evident by his screenname, one would soon learn this Native Texan has more than a passing interest in guns. I think in every correspondence I had with him regarding today's profile, he mentioned going to the gun range, having been to the gun range, or thinking about going to the gun range! :)

humblegunner

FReeper since 01-23-01

Sometimes, Getting to Know You means letting the FReeper of the Day tell us something about himself, in his own words. These, then, are some of humblegunner's words ........

Born in 1964, a Native Texan.
I grew up on different ranches we owned in Elgin, Bastrop, Alpine and Marlin, TX. Dad served in Korea as a Fire Control Officer...he was a Colonel upon retirement and transferred to the Army Finance Corps upon return to the states.
At age 13 I was sent to Allen Military Academy in Bryan, TX (prep school for A&M), but by the time I graduated I had been exposed to quite enough Corps and decided, much to my later chagrin, not to pursue a Military career. It should be noted, however, that I learned many invaluable things at Allen, which have served me well in later years.
Currently I am employed as a Dangerous Goods Specialist for a Chemical Manufacturing Plant in Houston, TX and am responsible for the shipment of hazardous materials by land, sea & air.
I am a very strong supporter of the 2nd amendment and also States rights.
I became involved with FreeRepublic through a friend sending me links for a couple of years. I’d read the article and make comments to my friend; when I realized he was posting some of them, one thing led to another.
I have been involved in several Freeps.

I very much enjoy visiting the shooting range with FReeper Friends.

The photo below is from the San Jacinto thread, which is linked above. Be sure and check out those threads; there are many more photos of the Houston FReepers celebrating San Jacinto Day, and also photos on the Texas GOP Convention thread.

BIG Guns at the Battleship Texas

Another interesting thing I learned about humblegunner...interesting and unexpected for an outdoor type that loves to shoot: he said he used to work in charcoal & pastel long ago.. no portraiture, only animals & landscapes..

I have just one more photo...

wanted to save it for last.

Ladies...yes, he is single. :)

Al Qaeda Deputies Harbored by Iran

Excerpt:

Mr. al-Adel, Mr. Walid and other al-Qaeda fighters are staying in a cluster of hotels in Mashhad, in northeastern Iran near the borders with Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and in guesthouses in Zabol, about 400 miles farther south on the Iranian-Afghan border, the sources said.

*
Saif al-Adel
A spokesman for the Iranian mission to the United Nations denied that Mr. al-Adel and Mr. Walid are in Iran. "Iran's policy is not to permit such people to enter Iran," he said.

With Osama bin Laden and his second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, unaccounted for, the sources said, and with the death of the former military chief, Mohammed Atef, the two have assumed operational control of al-Qaeda's military committee, which directs attacks, and its ideological or religious committee, which issues fatwas, or statements, to justify those attacks.

The idea of the transfer of power arose after the attacks in New York and at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, when it became apparent to al-Qaeda that the United States might attack Afghanistan and capture or kill some of its senior leaders, the sources said. The need to put the transfer into practice became even more apparent in March with the capture in Pakistan of Abu Zubaydah, a Palestinian and senior al-Qaeda planner.

Just for grins, folks !

Exiled American King Triumphantly Returns To Washington

WASHINGTON, DC—After nearly three decades in exile, King William IV returned to the U.S. to reclaim his throne Monday.

"Good people of America," said the newly restored monarch, speaking from a White House balcony. "Let the word be spread throughout the land that your king has returned."

"Prepare a feast!" added His Majesty amid a fanfare of trumpets.

Citizens were overjoyed by the monarchic restoration.

"Huzzah!" said Diane Sowell of State College, PA. "At long last, we are rid of that corrupt, antiquated system of government known as democracy, a system that has done nothing but maintain the status quo of political inequality, economic stagnation, and social injustice.

and the difference is?

Well - at least they preserved it in some fashion. My military school was closed down because of the anti-war movements impact on funding for various military training for the young folks.

I learned this from the MO. FReepers when I asked them about Kemper Military in Boonville Mo.

They were required to upgrade the facilities in order to qualify as a prison!

The senior cadets had a very efficient method of teaching polite speech to the junior cadets. ;-)

Was cussing your biggest sin? Come, let us have all the (hopefully) foul details. :D

Or just tell me to get lost, but congratulations on your day, you deserve it!

It's actually the only range I've ever been to but I do like it there. I just started shooting about 6-7 months ago and ASC is very close to my house.

I'll have to try those BBQ sandwiches!

Is chads at work today?

I am just leaving - the way this thread is starting, I need to take the day off to protect ole Chad - the only time she lets me out of the LIR Doghouse is when I need to go earn some dogfood money.

I know I can't depend on Lod,Cob and Louie - they are in kahoots with LIR and Justfrank.

Y'all be nice now! LOL

Learned a lot there.. not the least of which was the law

Howdy humblegunner!

It is a pleasure getting to know you, and a pleasure having another proud Texan in the spotlight. You all have such pride in your state. As a Californian who is saddened and embarrassed over what has happened to her once great state, I am envious. But I'm sure there is room in Texas for this disenchanted and (except for my fellow conservatives here in the Central Valley) politically disenfranchised Californian. So, move over, I am adopting Texas as MY state. :-)

Have a wonderful day!

Good morning Billie. Can't make it to Texas, but--just for you-- I'll do a couple of fancy steps in a welcome drizzle right here in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
