.
If you know a Veteran, someone in your family, friend of the family, neighbor, who served their country, take a brief moment of your day to thank them. Thank them for the sacrifice they made for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper Style, are thankful for every service member in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call, in both times of war and peace, thank you.
.
Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many Freepers who post here, feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me, saying that the Canteen is like home to them for the first time since they served.
This is your Canteen - a respite from our busy and sometimes troubling world. Make yourself at home.

I wanted to stop in and say hello to everyone. I've been busy with the kids all week playing school and I promised them a field trip tomorrow to see some dolphins. My MIL is coming tonight so I've also been busy cleaning the house and cooking her favorite foods to eat. I'm so tired now. I need a nap, but the cake in the oven won't let me lay down. It's Peaches and Cream cake and it's delicious. I'll give everyone a piece of cake later.
Hooches and smugs and I hope to be in as soon as things settle down a little. Maybe tonight.

Have another:
I was walking down fifth avenue today and I found a wallet,
and I was gonna keep it, rather than return it, but I thought:
well, if I lost a hundred and fifty dollars, how would I feel?
And I realized I would want to be taught a lesson."

THE COLLECTION PLATE:
Every Sunday, a little old lady placed $1000 in the collection plate.
This went on for weeks until the priest, overcome by curiosity, approached her. "Sister, I couldn't help but notice that you put $1000 a week in the collection plate," he stated. "Why yes," she replied, "every week my son sends me money, and what I don't need I give to the church.
That's wonderful, how much does he send you?"
"Oh, $20,000 a week."
"your son is very successful, what does he do for a living?"
"He is a veterinarian," she answered.
"That is a very honorable profession. Where does he practice?"
"Well, he has one cat house in Las Vegas and another in Reno.

On our last vacation, my wife and I saved some money by staying in a cheap hotel.
Just as we were falling asleep, we heard the sounds of mattress springs and a
banging headboard from the next room.
At first we were amused by the amorous couple.
After five minutes it had lost its charm.
After ten minutes we were a little annoyed.
After fifteen minutes, we were just plain ticked off , as it was keeping us awake.
After half an hour we were incensed!
After an hour we were pretty damned impressed.

Yes, cote, we had a wonderful time, and we were blown away by the warm welcome we received.
We are going to write a report for Free Dominion, and we will post it over here, too. :-)
