A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 8-21-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

A FR'S FINEST TRIBUTE
to the
PRAYER THREADS OF FREE REPUBLIC

PRAYER REQUEST THREAD

All FR members are welcome to post prayer requests and prayers for themselves, friends, family, loved ones or anyone in need - friends and strangers alike - on this thread. These prayer requests are often linked in the Daily Prayer Thread (see below) the following day.

There is no particular FReeper who initiates or hosts this thread; it is available for all and is a very efficient way to get a prayer request on the Forum in a timely manner.

To do this, simply go to the Home Page of FR, look under Daily Forum Threads and click on Prayer Requests. You may add your prayer request to the latest thread or post a new Prayer Request from the existing thread.

Psalm 121:
"I lift my eyes to the hills. From whence does my help come? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth..."

DAILY PRAYER THREAD

We have been blessed to have had a Daily Prayer Thread on FR for approximately the last two years.. Billbears has been initiating the Daily Prayer Thread for about the last year and half and has rarely missed a day in doing so.

The typical Daily Prayer Thread begins with links to individual prayer requests posted on FR during the past three or four weeks. Both new Prayer Requests and follow-up on previously requested prayers are included in these links. Billbears then posts a prayer, usually a Scripture reading, and usually from the King James Version of the Holy Bible. This is followed by an open forum in which prayer requests are made and prayers are offered up.

James 5:
[15] And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
[16] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

PRAY FOR BUSH DAY 7--

DittoJed2 began posting the Pray for Bush Thread as a FR daily thread on September 16, 2000. It was in the midst of the Presidential Campaign and DittoJed2 "saw that the truth was not being made to prevail...the Press was being extremely lopsided in their coverage......."and she felt that starting a Pray For Bush Thread would be a good idea. Following the election, the Pray for Bush thread continued so that we could pray for President Bush, and those around him, during his Presidency.

At approximately the same time, DittoJed2 began a website PRAY FOR PRESIDENT BUSH. This was probably the first such website on the internet. This website links to FR Pray for Bush Thread and the FR Pray for Bush Thread in turn links to the Pray for President Bush website.

The Pray for Bush thread on FR begins with a prayer and/or Scripture offered up by DittoJed2 and is followed by prayers posted by FR Forum members to lift up our President and those around him. Often, an appropriate photograph is posted. And special prayers are offered for special events in the life of President Bush and his duties as President. Lately, prayers have also been offered for the return of God's ways in the nation and the return of God's ways in the Church.

Below are some links to past Pray for Bush threads.

Day1
Election Day
Supreme Court Decision-late in Thread
Inauguration Day
9/11 First Year Anniversary of Pray for Bush Thread

Psalm 33:
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.

Thank You Jim Robinson for providing running Prayer Threads on the FR Forum.

Thank You
billbears and DittoJed2 for initiating these Prayer Threads daily.

And Thank You
FR Prayer Warriors.

Is billie taking a nap?

Do you think she'd mind a cartoon?

A Gary Larson cartoon?

A pretty funny one featuring God?

OK, great, I'll post it and hope no one is offended.

But just takes it for Larson humor.

I sometimes wish my keyboard had a Smite button.

LOL. It's probably a good thing that our computers don't have "smite" buttons. It's bad enough that we have "flame" buttons.

Well, that wasted very little of your time. ;-)
Don't you remember working together on the fundraisers?

Though the monthly contributors are SLOWLY growing,
I can almost recite that list by memory.

Yes, I do recall working on the fund-raisers. Isn't it about time for a fall fund-raiser?

Psalm 23 (Faith of a child)

A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible . . . Psalm 23.

She gave the youngsters a month to learn the verse.

Little Johnny was excited about the task, but he just couldn’t remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line.

On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Johnny was so nervous.

When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, “The Lord is my shepherd...and that’s all I need to know!”

Thanks for reposting the Lord's Prayer. I so was hoping we would see it here again today. As I commented before, when you first posted it, it is a must read for us all. Thank you so very much....

"Praise The Lord!"

My grandmother, who lived in Tucson, was well-known for her faith and her lack of reticence in talking about it. She would go out on the front porch and yes, "Praise the Lord!"

Her next door neighbor would shout back, "There ain't no God!"

During those days, my grandmother was very poor, so the neighbor decided to prove his point by buying a large bag of groceries and placing it at her door.

The next morning, Grandmother went to the porch and, seeing the groceries, said, "Praise the Lord!"

The neighbor stepped out from behind a tree and said, "I brought those groceries, and there ain't no God."

Grandmother looked up to the sky and replied, "Lord, You not only sent me food but You made the devil pay for it."

Arthritis

A drunk man who smelled like beer sat down on a subway seat next to a priest. The man's tie was stained his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a half empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading.

After a few minutes the man turned to the priest and asked, "Say, Father, what causes arthritis?"

"My Son, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol and a contempt for your fellow man."

Well, I'll be damned," the drunk muttered, returning to his paper.

The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. "I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?"

"I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does".

Thanks for hanging around so long today, Billie. I have been to have lunch, listened to the Westerfield verdict and taken a siesta. Back now, all refreshed. But definitely in a prayerful mood for all those involved in the Westerfield trial.

daisy, am I the only person who thinks Westerfield took a fall for his son? He was too stoic...too willing to accept what was happening. If he discovered that the son had done the killing, and he covered it up, it would explain some of the forensic evidence as well as the time frame problem. I don't know. I didn't follow the trial much, but every time I looked at the man I had the strongest feeling that he was covering for someone. He had a look of resignation, not of guilt.
