A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 8-21-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

A FR'S FINEST TRIBUTE
to the
PRAYER THREADS OF FREE REPUBLIC

PRAYER REQUEST THREAD

All FR members are welcome to post prayer requests and prayers for themselves, friends, family, loved ones or anyone in need - friends and strangers alike - on this thread. These prayer requests are often linked in the Daily Prayer Thread (see below) the following day.

There is no particular FReeper who initiates or hosts this thread; it is available for all and is a very efficient way to get a prayer request on the Forum in a timely manner.

To do this, simply go to the Home Page of FR, look under Daily Forum Threads and click on Prayer Requests. You may add your prayer request to the latest thread or post a new Prayer Request from the existing thread.

Psalm 121:
"I lift my eyes to the hills. From whence does my help come? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth..."

DAILY PRAYER THREAD

We have been blessed to have had a Daily Prayer Thread on FR for approximately the last two years.. Billbears has been initiating the Daily Prayer Thread for about the last year and half and has rarely missed a day in doing so.

The typical Daily Prayer Thread begins with links to individual prayer requests posted on FR during the past three or four weeks. Both new Prayer Requests and follow-up on previously requested prayers are included in these links. Billbears then posts a prayer, usually a Scripture reading, and usually from the King James Version of the Holy Bible. This is followed by an open forum in which prayer requests are made and prayers are offered up.

James 5:
[15] And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
[16] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

PRAY FOR BUSH DAY 7--

DittoJed2 began posting the Pray for Bush Thread as a FR daily thread on September 16, 2000. It was in the midst of the Presidential Campaign and DittoJed2 "saw that the truth was not being made to prevail...the Press was being extremely lopsided in their coverage......."and she felt that starting a Pray For Bush Thread would be a good idea. Following the election, the Pray for Bush thread continued so that we could pray for President Bush, and those around him, during his Presidency.

At approximately the same time, DittoJed2 began a website PRAY FOR PRESIDENT BUSH. This was probably the first such website on the internet. This website links to FR Pray for Bush Thread and the FR Pray for Bush Thread in turn links to the Pray for President Bush website.

The Pray for Bush thread on FR begins with a prayer and/or Scripture offered up by DittoJed2 and is followed by prayers posted by FR Forum members to lift up our President and those around him. Often, an appropriate photograph is posted. And special prayers are offered for special events in the life of President Bush and his duties as President. Lately, prayers have also been offered for the return of God's ways in the nation and the return of God's ways in the Church.

Below are some links to past Pray for Bush threads.

Day1
Election Day
Supreme Court Decision-late in Thread
Inauguration Day
9/11 First Year Anniversary of Pray for Bush Thread

Psalm 33:
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.

Thank You Jim Robinson for providing running Prayer Threads on the FR Forum.

Thank You
billbears and DittoJed2 for initiating these Prayer Threads daily.

And Thank You
FR Prayer Warriors.

Thank you Mama_Bear. I think there was Divine Intervention in the preparation and posting of this thread. I found all of the graphics, save one, at the same site (and I wasn't even looking for graphics for this thread-in fact the thread was just a glimmer in my eye at the time, lol). Then when I did a Preview Post yesterday afternoon it was not lined up. I asked Billie what to do, and she made suggestions but it still did not look right. So I said a pray and posted it even though the preview was not right, and it came out fine....

Hi, g'nad, thank you for posting the Marine's Prayer for us. Today's thread is really inspirational, and I can feel it in so many FReepers' posts.

My pleasure Ma'am...

Dear God, in a world that's racked with war,
Let me think of the coming years
When the cannon's core has ceased its roar,
And the nations dry their tears.
Keep Thou my heart unblemished.
Give me strength to wait release;
And let me live as a man should live
In a fight for the God of Peace.
O Father, grant that I may last
To build the world again;
To know when pestilence is past
A brotherhood of men.
Bless Thou the aged with Thy light;
Protect our troubled youth;
And let me fight as a man should fight
In a war for the God of Truth.
Thy will be done, if Thou decree
That I shall die afield.
But let me go face to the foe
Sustain me, lest I yield.
Let no man cry he saw me fly
The battle's agony.
And let me die as a man should die
In a fight for Liberty.
Amen.

The truth be known, jkphoto likes louie ........ (even though louie does tend to get a tad overly exuberant at times.) ;-)

With your permission, I am going to re-post a recent submission. This seems appropiate here today.

If you have read this, please skip it, (or re-read it) or you may request to have it removed.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

(person): 'Our Father who art in heaven ...'

(God): Yes?

(person): Don't interrupt me. I'm praying.

(God): But you called me.

(person): Called you? I didn't call you. I'm praying. "Our Father which art in heaven..."

(God): There you did it again.

(person): Did what?

(God): Called me.
You said, "Our Father which art in heaven. "
Here I am...What's on your mind?

(person): But I didn't mean anything by it. I was, you know, just saying my prayers for the day.
I always say the Lord's Prayer.
It makes me feel good, kind of like getting a duty done.

(God): All right. Go on.

(person): "Hallowed be thy name..."

(God): Hold it. What do you mean by that?

(person): By what?

(God): By "hallowed be thy name"?

(person): It means... it means...
Good grief, I don't know what it means. How should I know? It's just a part of the prayer.
By the way, what does it mean?

(God): It means honored, holy, wonderful.

(person): Hey, that makes sense.
I never thought about what "hallowed" meant before.
"Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

(God): Do you really mean that?

(person): Sure, why not?

(God): What are you doing about it?

(person): Doing? Nothing, I guess.
I just think it would be kind of neat if you got control of everything down here like you have up there.

(God): Have I got control of you?

(person): Well, I go to church.

(God): That isn't what I asked you.
What about your bad temper? You've really got a problem there, you know.
And then there's the way you spend your money--all on yourself.
And what about the kind of books you read?

(person): Stop picking on me! I'm just as good as some of the rest of those people at the church.

(God): Excuse me.
I thought you were praying for my will to be done. If that is to happen, it will have to start with the ones who are praying for it.
Like you, for example.

(person): Oh, all right. I guess I do have some hang-ups.
Now that you mention it, I could probably name some others.

(God): So could I.

(person): I haven't thought about it very much until now, but I really would like to cut out some of those things.
I would like to, you know, be really free.

(God): Good.
Now we're getting somewhere. We'll work together, you and I.
Some victories can truly be won.
I'm proud of you.

(person): Look, Lord, I need to finish up here. This is taking a lot longer than it usually does.
"Give us this day, our daily bread."

(God): You need to cut out the bread. You're overweight as it is.

(person): Hey, wait a minute!
What is this, "Criticize me day"?
Here I was doing my religious duty, and all of a sudden you break in and remind me of all my hang-ups.

(God): Praying is a dangerous thing.
You could wind up changed, you know. That's what I'm trying to get across to you.
You called me, and here I am. It's too late to stop now.
Keep praying, I'm interested in the next part of your prayer...(pause)....... Well, go on.

(person): I'm scared to.

(God): Scared? Of what?

(person): I know what you'll say.

(God): Try me and see.

(person): "Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us."

(God): What about Ann?

(person): See?
I knew it! I knew you would bring her up!
Why, Lord, she's told lies about me, spread stories about my family. She never paid back the debt she owes me.
I've sworn to get even with her! (God): But your prayer? What about your prayer?

(person): I didn't mean it.

(God): Well, at least you're admitting it.
But it's not much fun carrying that load of bitterness around inside, is it?

(person): No.

But I'll feel better as soon as I get even.
Boy, have I got some plans for that neighbor. She'll wish she had never moved into this neighborhood.

(God): You won't feel any better. You'll feel worse. Revenge isn't sweet.
Think of how unhappy you already are.
But I can change all that.

(person): You can? How?

(God): Forgive Ann. Then I'll forgive you.
Then the hate and sin will be Ann's problem and not yours.
You will have settled your heart.

(person): Oh, you're right. You always are.
And more than I want to get revenge on Ann, I want to be right with you....(pause)...(sigh).
All right. All right. I forgive her.
Help her to find the right road in life, Lord. She's bound to be awfully miserable now that I think about it.
Anybody who goes around doing the things she does to others has to be out of it.
Some way, some how, show her the right way.

(God) There now!
Wonderful!
How do you feel?

(person): Hmmm. Well, not bad. Not bad at all. In fact, I feel pretty great!
You know, I don't think I'll have to go to bed uptight tonight for the first time since I can remember.
Maybe I won't be so tired from now on because I'm not getting enough rest.

(God): You're not through with your prayer.
Go on.

(person): Oh, all right. "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."

(God): Good!
Good! I'll do that.

Just don't put yourself in a place where you can be tempted.

(person): What do you mean by that?

(God): Don't turn on the TV when you know the laundry needs to be done and the house needs to be picked up.
Also, about the time you spend coffeeing with your friends, if you can't influence the conversation to positive things, perhaps you should rethink the value of those friendships.
Another thing, your neighbors and friends shouldn't be your standard for "keeping up".
And please don't use me for an escape hatch.

(person): I don't understand the last part.

(God): Sure you do.
You've done it a lot of times.
You get caught in a bad situation. You get into trouble and then you come running to me, "Lord, help me out of this mess and I promise you I'll never do it again."
You remember some of those bargains you tried to make with me?

(person): Yes, and I'm ashamed, Lord. I really am.

(God): Which bargain are you remembering?

(person): Well, there was the night that Bill was gone and the children and I were home alone.
The wind was blowing so hard I thought the roof would go any minute and tornado warnings were out.
I remember praying, "Oh, God, if you spare us, I'll never skip my devotions again."

(God): did you?

(person): I'm sorry, Lord, I really am.
Up until now I thought that if I just prayed the Lord's Prayer every day, then I could do what I liked.
I didn't expect anything to happen like it did.

(God): Go ahead and finish your prayer.

(person): "For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever."
Amen.

(God): Do you know what would bring me glory?
What would really make me happy?

(person): No, but I'd like to know.
I want now to please you. I can see what a mess I've made of my life.
And I can see how great it would be to really be one of your followers.

(God): You just answered the question.

(person): I did?

(God): Yes. The thing that would bring me glory is to have people like you truly love me.
And I see that happening between us.
Now that some of these old sins are exposed and out of the way, well, there is no telling what we can do together.

I need to go and finish tomorrow's profile - else someone will be very disappointed, and I cannot let that happen!

I intend to read every single post made today, and if I don't get back to answer another one, please know I have read all of them and I appreciate you all more than you know.

Dear God, these are all such beautiful people. Thank you.

..Don't make a blanket statement that "I'll pray for you" without following through - Stay Prayed Up. ..

Diver, this is the most important thing and I am glad you stressed the point.

It is important to keep a 'prayer list' and use it.
