"45. Wisconsin [9 months frozen; 3 of mosquitoes, leftist state U attracts kooks. Cheesy.]

Thanks for reminding me why I left Wisconsin 39 years ago! Trouble is, I have since lived in Cleveland, OH, Chicago, IL (northern suburbs) and St. Louis, MO! Not making much progress I guess.

Sedona, Cottonwood, Montezuma, Black Canyon City, Camp Verde, Carefree.

Albuquerque has average July temperature of 78 F; Phoenix 93, Tucson 84, Vegas 87, Flagstaff 67, Santa Fe 68, Roswell 79, Las Cruces 84, Yuma 96, etc.

If I had to live in Arizona, how about there where the Prescott Valley road hits the interstate between Camp Verde and BCC. Centrally located.

But cannot equal the East Beach of Fla for one's ability to live here without any heating or cooling, year round, without really suffering very much. Bin here, done that.

Why wait? All those towns are lovely, anywhere in the Valley, how about Lexington, Waynesboro, Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, New Market, Woodstock, Wytheville, Radford, Marion, Abingdon? Many even have universities or nice community colleges now. Great place for kids to grow up.

Nasty in Jan and Feb, hole up with a book or come to Fla.

Paul, I too live in north Alabama. How nice it is that for once we are ranked near the TOP of a list rather than at the BOTTOM of one!

Seriously, many seemingly backward towns and counties are surprisingly quick of access to the Atlanta airport, from which nonstops all over the world used to fly...before 9/11, doubt anyone much will be flying now...

Or to Charlotte or Raleigh, or Houston, Dallas, or New Orleans, or any Florida airports, of course.

My very first "jet" flight(s) were out of Meridian - to get back home to Los Angeles.....as I remember, it was Meridian to Gulfport to NOLA to Dallas and then to LAX.....by the end of the day, I was an experienced jet traveler (this was probably early 1969)......I love the south, and am glad to have my roots be from Alabama!!

Ancestry mostly Scots and English, but Cherokee, Jewish, Norwegian, and Huguenot-living-in-Belgium, all figure in, too.

What nearly everyone in America is, Irish and German, we are not at all, SFAIK.

Also descended from a soldier under Washington, John Alden on the Mayflower, and Gov. Phipps of Massachusetts who ordered the witches to hang.

You were miserable in Mass? Pray tell, why? I am just kidding.

I do love my state but it has become exactly how crystalk described it. Crystalk, the funny part is that although the Looney Left is very strong here, it is the labor presence that gets them elected.

A lot of blue collar workers here are very socially conservative yet would vote for the devil himself if he promised forced higher wages for labor... which is what they do. :D

Unemployment is NOT low. As far as a great culture, yes! Our ancestors DID build a great culture and Mass has a great history. Key hords are HAD and HISTORY.

You hit it right for South Carolina and Georgia, and not many people know where the nicest part of SC is. Also, the best place in Texas is right around Kerrville/Fredericksburg/NewBraunsfels. There are some nice places in Maryland--out in the hillier west and on the dively beautiful Eastern Shore marshland, where conservatives dominate and the produce is splendid.

They keep a lot of those Lisbon perfessers out the other end of the state nearer New Yawk, too. You're also right about that left turn stuff. It's a queer state for sure, where even a lot of Republicans are Democrats.

But we drive fast, we get the best of all four seasons and have the best sports fans in the nation.

Yeah, actually I am just kidding, there are some good people there but they deserve a better environment.

As for me, I spent about 11 years in Mass between Feb 1 and May 15 in 1972. Or so it seemed.

I found the knee-jerk liberal attitude too much to stomach, especially when coupled with the Puritan mentality. I lived west of Boston in Acton. Since they are preserving that area as it was in Revolutionary times, we had no decent roads, no shopping, and no restaurants. I about died. Thank God I'm back in Texas.

If you want to know why California is rated 3rd world, spend a week touring Los Angeles County. You will have your answer! I advise having an armored vehicle in Watts and Inglewood.

Oh you bet, and all of California is one big Watts and Inglewood. I am heading out to uh, Cincinnati, or Detroit or maybe Louisiana, or, uh maybe south Dakota......Don't go to California, it's all a third world. As soon as I am done cooking these Halibut steaks, bredded Oysters and three nice Pacific Salmon with Cilantro and Serrano Aioli, I am out of here.

Wish me luck!

No thanks. Any state whose greatest contribution to the union was it's native son, BJ Clinton, and the concept of family trees that don't branch is not to my taste!

I didn't say unemployment was low in Mass.; I don't know what it is.

There is most definitely a lot of kinky stuff about Mass. Like it was started by Puritans who had a lot of weird ideas. And there are too damn many Democrats, an old part of Mass. history, too.

But, you know, some Republicans have to live here and if you pick the right parts of the state, it's pretty nice. Southeastern Mass. is Zone 6, as warm as a few states below the Mason-Dixon line and the state is 70% forested. Plus the overall crime rate is lower than much of Florida's.

I should've checked what you were replying to. Yeah, I don't know the unemployment rate in Mass. or how it compares with anyone else. Can't comment.
